At almost 87 years old, Davey has slowed down a bit. The team made a decision to go with a Rider two years ago when they went to the Knoxville Nationals. A sponsor owns the engine. Davey did tinker with a few of his engines he built over this off season, so they will run the Rider and his Brown built engines this upcoming season.

Personally I think they race better with the old Brown motors but that is just my opinion.

Tim Engler also needs given props. A lot of the 900 hp era tuning expertise seems to have trickled down from his shop & chassis dyno, even to Kinsler engine builders and Schatz’s Ford. Guess you can tame a sprint car motor if you can get 4 tractor pull engines to take off at once. Engler Machine & Tool

Brown no doubt is everyone's sentimental favorite even mine, but Larson seemed to do alright with Riders last year.

Q&A: Tom Rider talks 35 years of Rider Racing Engines | World of Outlaws

"I remember when we first started dynoing Sprint Car stuff, in 2000 or 2001, a good [410ci] motor would make 750hp, something like that. Now good motors make almost 930hp. A good 360ci will make a little over 700hp. So, a 360ci nowadays makes what a 410ci did 20 years ago."

Baldwin Racing Engines just posted this on Facebook:

We have finally got together a full quote for a turn key LS410 Sprint engine. Dart block, billet Callie’s crankshaft, Dyers rods, custom CP pistons w/DLC pins, custom All-Pro heads w/Ti valves, DLC lifters, Jesel shaft rockers, custom Billet Engler injection, Wolff 5 stage pump, and plumbing, Olson oil pan, water pump, and all plumbing. Engine weight was 340#, engine chassis dynos at Engler 880hp and 685lbsft. So the engine roughly makes 925hp and 725ftlbs, with a much lower cost of operation. Great drivability and power. The complete package is $45,500.00 so considerably less upfront cost as well. Contact us for more info, 3 years of run time on this combo with great results.

Yeah I'll never understand the reason why one of the fastest cars in the country for two years, decided to make the switch to Rider the week they go to Knoxville. Donnie, Davey and Lance are legends and I have all the respect in the world for those guys, but that was the dumbest decision I've ever seen in 410 sprint car racing.

Yeah no shit. I wanna hear the reason why they decided to change for Knoxville.  Then I want to tell them how wrong they were. They're all legends and forgot more about racing than I'll pretend to know.....but I'm right on this one.
