That is strange. You'd think the Amish would be the most socially isolated group

Maybe race fans got lucky cause nobody traveled to hotspots? If yo don't have it, you can't infect anyone

It is true also in Ohio that the Amish and Mennonite communities have been hit very hard.   I personally know of a nursing home run by the Mennonites that has had fatalities .  That community has 79 in quarantined the  last I heard.   Close to Attica speedway in  Willard Ohio.  They have a group of people ... that they refer to as the muck.  They are migrant farmers mostly Mexican. That are in the area to plant in the spring and stay to the harvest in fall.   They are very hard hit right now.

I was told to stay away from Willard. Attica is just minutes away.  I always get gas at the all night station on 224 in Willard when I go to Attica. Incidentally , I stopped at that gas station...bought a piece of pizza because I was hungry and doubt I put on a mask.   However, I Clorox wipe mY hands every time I handle money and door handles as a precaution.  The pizza.. well now... that was a risk!   BuT the girls did seem Healthy at the counter.  But I missed  the race... due to either poor time management in my travel adventures or God just delayed me for a reason.  It happens... often with me actually ...I just smile threw it.  I say .... I get there ... when I get there.  But...   It  was fun to see all the campers in residence. Smell the camp fires etc. etc. and long drives for me are prayer events... so the time is never ever wasted.  So I stay happy!

But.... What do these three groups have In Common ?  Amish...  Mennonite ... and the muck people.  They were all outside during planting season.   I was in Ohio when  people began to quarantine.  The moment that I realized things were gravely serious... I was in Walmart ...there was a complete absence of the Amish and Mennonite  woman in the store despite panic buying going on.  The men Folk where doing the shopping.  With no little children In tow. They normally have their sons with them.  In matching little hats lookin so cute.

The wall-mart that I shop at in Ohio has first class accommodations for the Amish.  There is a large covered pole barn out back  With hay and post for the horses. It’s an agricultural community. And the Amish are ever present.  I often dine with them.  They have worked at mY home there.  And the faces were missing.  And I certainly noticed.

Then... this past weekend I desired to go to Wayne county for the outlaw race and I am Told ...do not dine with them ....as you always do...their group is also hit hard.  oK what gives???  This is too much indeed .

But I do know that  there was a couple of events that went off in Ohio.  The first Saturday of March and April there is a large farm auction for farm equipment In Kidron.  I have been to the auction myself. Then in my county there is a large big dollar horse auction.  A miniature  horse this spring went for $20,000.   Many of these farms are pulling In Over half a mIllion easy each year.  And many ... way more than that.  So they do have money to spend.  One year they had over 1000 teenagers on a private farm with a lake for a party.  Many of the children were finned for underage drinking.  And probably half were out of Pa.  they got rowdy enough the police were called.  Imagine that!

The Amish love to travel and charter buses to go back to pa to visit. Because of this covid ...I do Not see their charter buses at mY local gas station.  The buses have stopped rolling but they have not recovered from this spring.  The problem is Bad and getting Worse. I sincerely hope they allow others to help them Bring In The crop.  I am not sure that they have the available man power. They are scary ...  missing In Action right now.  The question is will they allow the big dollar harvesters to come In Their fields and Get the job done.

And yes... sometimes... I am a country girl.  I Love ....love .....love... harvest day.  I love the sounds of the equipment .  It’s poetry in motion...   Watching a crop being brought in.  Of course Sprint cars at Eldora beat it.  You might be surprised  how many farmers are in the stands at Eldora .  Because it takes something powerful to compete with the sounds of a harvester.  Truly... But ..One night for a sprint car race .... I sat in The main  grandstand with an all male group of dairy farmers out of Indiana.  It was a special event for them.  And a tradition to all go together.  They explained that It was very hard for all of them To get away at the same time.  Dairy farming is demanding... as the cows need your attention. I had not thought upon it before.  So  The woman folk had to stay home and take over the farming. All smiles!!! If any of you are reading this__ a special shout out ... of Hi.... and Thank You.... it was most fun meeting you all.  Take Care of yourselves...  Live Long and Prosper Well!   Blessings

And if any State officials are reading this... Quarantine the sick... Not the Healthy... Let the Healthy Live their Life's & Lets Go Racing!!!

Let me state one thing that is undeniably TRUE. The Coronavirus does not belong to either the democratic or republican party & it has no preferance as to who it infects or kills. Heeding health guidlines is simply a matter of civility & respect for your fellow human being. If you have large gatherings & people are not heeding those guidelines, then in approx. 2 to 3 weeks you can expect a BIG SPIKE of infections...PERIOD. It has been true throughout the entire US & will continue to be so. Knoxville Raceway has done their shows the right way & hence the lack of spikes related to them.

Hmm, with words in caps like BIG SPIKE and PERIOD you would think central Pa would have a massive spike in cases after 8 weeks of racing, yet no.  Well, that seems odd.  And if you guys think no one travels to and from areas with more infections than Juniata County you are all crazy.  The people who sit around our seats are from all over, not just Pa. I split time between my two homes, one in Juniata Co and the other in Delaware County, a hot spot right now. The only difference I see in the two areas is more masks are being worn in businesses in Delco.  My feeling is that the virus is much, much harder to get while being outdoors, large groups or not.  Remember the one case at Port's pit concession stand? Yeah, me too. But not one other was reported to catch the virus from a person showing clear symptoms and being around a number of others at the track. We hear so much bullshit from the media and politicians when it comes to this virus, who the hell knows what is true and what isn't.  For me, I'll continue to go to Port and other tracks so I can enjoy life as always.

Honestly I am sick and tired of hearing about all this covid bullshit. You don't know who or what to believe anymore.

I heard this quote from a friend " I have been married for 30 years, Hell if I want to be lied to I will talk to my wife"

I watch people, places, things and use common sense, take your time and don't rush into things.

Turn your tv's off go outside and enjoy what mother nature provides you each and every day.

This is not meant to start any arguments. JMHO

I sometimes feel the reason the tracks stay open in PA is someone is paying off the state reps. A few in particular come to the track just to mock the mandates. One was supposedly on beer hill Friday even announced by the track. What a joke.  Just my opinion. You have no idea where people come from. Jersey, Montgomery County, Virginia, berks county Maryland, Ohio etc. All these have high numbers and if contracted would not be counted in the areas of the track. So claiming small numbers not a reason for not following guidelines and self justifying your neighborhood. Not one track follows the mandates. They do lip service to people like wear a mask, we have sanitizer stations (never filled). They are in it to make money not your safety. Noticed the last few weeks attendance is low. Especially Lincoln Saturday and Williamsgrove. Car counts down too. Contact tracing is a joke and reported that people are not cooperating. The virus is real, your choice to attend but i stop short of not respecting your fellow fans if sick stay home, masks etc. Tracks don't care but fans should about themselves, drivers and crews, and other fans. It will be here after the damn election for all you conspiracy people and people did not volunteer their loved ones to die just to join in the conspiracy. Do what you want support the tracks but don't think it can't happen to you and think the tracks have your best interest in mind lol. Enjoy

No spike in central PA!!. Why folks wanna close everything for a virus with less than 1% death rate is crazy. New york folks have wore mask and been shut down 5 months. AND STILL SHUT DOWN!!  Sure most bitching on here don't ever go to the races. SIMLE, STAY HOME!!! Ps, Our GOV thought was fine to march in steets with thousands of protestors.

I'm not a man child, I don't expect someone else to take care of me when I leave my house, lol.  If you do, then you may want to consider hiding in a basement with Biden.  You are correct, many people come from out of town for races at Port.  But I guarantee you the majority are from Juniata Co and the surrounding counties. So, where is this rise in cases?? It's been two months and I know JC has gone up what maybe 5-10 cases in over two months. Can't wait for the weekend to head to the track!!!

It's just amazing to me that people deny these undeniable numbers

Cases   4,732,418

Deaths   155,942

You may be lucky to not know anyone counted in those numbers but make no mistake, they are REAL numbers. You can believe the deniers if you wish but there is no left wing, commie,  Democratic conspiracy here -  there's 155,942 DEAD people !

155,942 in 4 months

407,316 in six years of  WWII

At the rate we're going, we'll surpass WWII in less than a year.

"The Greatest Generation" sacrificed...did what they had to....didn't walk around blaming a real German or Japanese "conspiracy".

We can't even wear a F......'in mask

Interesting stats.  First time chiming in on this(cause Im sick and tired of hearing about it...its the only thing on the news other than riots in Portland).

Right when this thing was blowing up I saw a dr say that everyone in the world will be exposed to the virus.  I know quite a few people who got it, and they all are fine.  All of em social distanced, wore masks, gloves etc and still got it.  If you are meant to get it you are gonna get it.

That being said I wear a mask (in store, at work....when told to wear one.  Not the end of the world.

Dont understand the push to not vote in person.  You stand in line at the grocery store, lowes, dmv.  If I can stand in line at those places I can stand in line to vote. Just my opinion.

No, it's not well said, at no rate will we pass 400,000 within one year. Math says, we need to average 1000+ deaths for the next 242 days. Not likely!

I don't know how many times this has to be explained: The mask is to keep you from infecting OTHERS

Biden has nothing to do with it... stop

Interesting. My one visit to Attica, I was staying with a HS friend in Homerville, about an hour East. She's surrounded by Amish.

However, I find the term "muck people" highly offensive

You also must be able to deny the numbers because...

-60 million + Covid tests from January 1st of this year till now 8/4

-1 million H1N1 tests performed in five months of 2009 when the virus was discovered

The US is averaging more COVID tests a week now than total number of flu tests the last three years combined.

Statistics are fun.

On a side note a friend in Florida was going to get tested for covid.  Waited in line, after giving all of her personal info, for a couple hours.  She got tired of waiting and left.  Got a letter in the mail 4 days later saying she tested positive for covid.  Even tho she never got tested.

That probably means the person who was behind her in line was positive.  And they probably got back a negative test result.  Ahhhh Florida.

If muck is offensive, I propose we call them atypically moist, atypically dark, highly fertile, organic material people.  If we can't call what they plant and harvest in (muck) muck, let's call it that.

In my part of the world, there is quite a spike in cases.  But it is the youger crowd that is testing positive.  Most all of them are asympotmatic.  They're being tested becasue they want to, are having a procedure, or some reason other than they think they have covid.  And they surprisingly come back positive.  There is one person hospitlaized with covid (I doubt becasue of covid) in the 4 hospitals in my county today.  The rise in testing has parralelled the rise in cases.  No no one is getting sick and no one is dying though.

The rules here are 100 people max at outdoor gatherings as long as everyone not from the same household is six feet apart.  Some tracks are still closed, one is jumping through a ton of ridiculous hoops to race, and the rest are all systems normal, packing in thousands every night.  No social distancing and no masks.   There's a new executive directive today regarding enforcement of the orders.  Whitmer is tired of most agencies saying they will not enfore her orders.  So we'll see if anything changes.

Too bad your friend isn't a basketball or baseball player. She would be making tens to hundreds of millions a year and be getting tested twice a day for COVID!!

I gotta be honest, that's been confusing to me as well. I've been waiting to see a flare up in central PA considering we've been running for months and there are numerous senior citizens that go to the track consistently. Speedweek saw huge crowds, the Outlaws were here to large crowds, the Weikert shows at Port also had large crowds, and yet.... nothing really has popped up. These races took place and considering the incubation period that has been described you'd think we be seeing/hearing something.

I'm not asking these questions in a sarcastic way. I'm legitimately wondering because it's obvious that this is a very real thing. Is it because we're outside? Are we just lucky? Have people gotten it, but just been asymptomatic? I have no idea.

all of those are really good questions i've been wondering about too.  thankfully we've found out so far that (knock on wood) these races haven't caused any hot spots...although you would probably have to go through some kind of contact tracing/follow up to be sure.  cases in pa are starting to go down again overall based on what i've seen.  this is all good news.

we held an interesting experiment in central pa.  9 straight nights of large gatherings during speedweek.  if i was smart enough to put it together i'd do a study about what went right.  it isn't evidence to stop doing the things that are being encouraged...but evidence that there is hope for outdoor activities like college football in the fall.
