Where'd you see this? Is it posted somewhere? Any other format changes?
|
I saw Johnny at Dingus and asked him about it. My guess is that the WoO people will talk about this in their King's Royal presser sometime soon. I'm not aware of any other format changes. If the KR format was the regular WoO format or even a Knoxville Nationals-like points format... this would be a huge deal. Since the KR format is so unique, I don't see it being such a big deal. It might be a physchological advantage more than anything!?

MORON ALERT!!!

Why are you so mad? Didn't know I am not allowed to speak my opinion which btw is the truth. Been to both events multiple times. Both are excellent btw, but the atmosphere at Eldora is better. Which is what I was speaking about. Nice try though Bub.

Add Bill Balog and Josh Schneiderman as cars making the tow east for the King's Royal weekend. Good luck to both!!

I thought I read Balog is running an IRA show or something this weekend? Sure hope he is there though! Gonna be a hell of a field this year!
I personally think that the Kings Royal is better than Nationals... I have been to both many times. There are more cars at Knoxville but the racing is better at Eldora. Just my $.02.

But I thought, read it on here many times, that Tony ruined Eldora. If thats the case how can the racing be better? That, folks, was sarcasm.

I'm taking their Twitter post from yesterday as the God's honest truth... https://twitter.com/bsqdmotorsports
I hope he's there too. It's always a helluva field... this year appears be no exception!
I love the King's Royal too and am super pumped to get back there this year. It's been way too long since I've been out there. Knoxville has better dirt and (arguably) the best track prep crew in the country... so by default of those two factors, the racing is often better... just my 2 cents on that. I will give Roger Slack and his crew credit for getting Eldora in pretty good shape lately... hope it's on point these next few days!

Yep, saw on his FB page they are headed to Eldora... Looking like the field is getting more stout after all!
We are only going Saturday night. Wish we could go the whole weekend, but we have prior obligations. A friend of mine is going to his second WoO race of his life. His last was at Williams Grove last year for Summer Nats, which was a good show but they rained out the A main which sucked! So, this is his first big show in my opinion... Everything after this is a let down!

I will say this. The atmosphere at the Knoxville Nationals was much better years back when we could camp openly out on the fairgrounds. Venders open all night.....especially the tenderloin shack...horseshoes being tossed nearly all night after the races.....and people all over the grounds with tv's and chairs set out with sprint car videos (tapes) running until morning. Race teams scattered about. Race fans gathering all around and shooting the breeze about racing. Then five, six or seven hours of sleep and back at it again by early afternoon. It's almost become too big.....too commercial to enjoy like in years past. That or maybe I'm just getting old. Even the anticipation has waned in recent years.

I don't know about you but I'll be 67 in a couple months and I think its me that slowed down and not the parties. ;)

Here I sit in the Chicago OHare airport waiting for my connection to Cincinnati. Buddy is picking me up there and we head north to Rossburg. The day is finally here...

I agree the partying is more at Eldora... Did you notice the price of beer and mix drinks? Can't believe how cheap it is vs some other sporting events...
Sure looking forward to the KR this year. Sitting in turn 4 like usual. But this year I am not sitting near the guys who have the beads, and get "a little" drunk and obnoxious... LOL You have seen them, always about 8 to 10 of them and have beads for the women like at Mardi grad, for the same reason too. By the time the A main rolls around most people have been overserved!
Besides that, it is a great show!

You may be right blazer. The tension during those qualifying nights is unreal. Good stuff.

And that's what we always though added to the atmosphere of those two nights. Everybody disected the driver list split. Which night was the toughest? Who were the favorites each night? And then the qualifying and heat line ups......especially when they inverted the entire ten car heats. And back when the Nationals drew the huge numbers of cars it did, qualifying the top fifty for each night of racing meant an extra race to see who might advance to the C Feature and possibly further. I think one year in particular there was nearly thirty cars each night not qualified fast enough to make the heats. Those two nights have always offered a heck of a lot of hard racing.

I am not a world traveler like many on this board. However, of the hundreds of races I have attended, the Wed. and Thurs. night at the Nationals is by far the best racing you will see on a consistent basis. I've seen a ho-hum show before but never have I seen two ho-hum shows in the same Nationals.

+1. The tension & excitement these 2 nights are the best.
As far as the KR. I'm leaving work in 30 minutes to make the 90 mile ride to eldora. I may go Friday but am not planning on Saturday. ive been to all but a couple and the Saturday crowd makes it much less enjoyable for me. You can't sit where you like and if you do it's packed tight. I'm not a partier so that adds nothing to the event for me. I'm not alone either as I know several diehard fans who arent going.

That's about where I am as well. Gonna see how this year goes both on & off the track and maybe skip next year. See if I miss it or not.

OMG! OMG! OMG! Jokers Wild day was amazing! Got there about 3:00 and soaked it ALL in. Many details to follow. Currently working on no sleep for 36+ hours, but somehow still all jazzed up. Hanging out just inside turn 3 during hot laps was incredible. Meeting drivers, crew, families, etc .Wow .Just, wow.
