For areas with not enough sprint cars in each class. I can see a way this could actually work. If there's a seasonal point system, make point leaders, regardless of cubic inches, start in the back. They used to do this with "run whatcha brung" modifieds back in the day & it made for LOTS of passing. When I first started watching dirt track, early 60s, East Side Speedway, Waynesboro, Va., Smokey Stover won something like 22 out of 24 races from the back row. So he dominated even more than Schatz but every race was a thriller. Can you imagine Schatz consistently winning from the back? That would be entertaining...

For areas with enough cars, just fuhgettaboutit!

I guess I am not real bright but I can't follow Cubic's logic of saving 410 racing by ending 410 racing. When no one can run them anymore then they will be done and we will have slower cheaper divisions. For now they are the elite and making them slow down to the speed of other divisions is not saving them it is eliminating them. Besides I thought this would all be over since both Central Pa. Sat. tracks had full fields last night and some still are not out yet. By the way all Central Pa. tracks will not buck the Outlaws when one of them likely makes more money on Outlaw shows than they do the rest of their season. The regular season is only for keeping interest up for the Outlaw shows and a few other special shows. I do think it might cost cut costs to eliminnate the 410 cubic inch rule as the Late Models have but not to then slow them down. Just run a 305 if that is all the faster you want them to go.

Both tracks had good counts but I wouldn't use last night's field as measuring stick as far as Port is concerned because of you look at the field and count actual regulars, they're still mid to upper teens. They benefitted from Mercer raining out & the ASCoC being off. I went to Lincoln and it was a hell of a show. One of the best features I've ever seen. For the first time ever, I'll attending Lincoln almost every week and going to Port for bigger races but as always, I hope both tracks are able to do well from here on out. I think car counts will continue to be a struggle for Port unfortunately.

I'm gonna try to make it back East in time for Weikert Memorial. There should be a good car count for $10,000 on a Sunday, right? Saturday too for $5,000?

How 'bout this theory?: racing participation as a spectator, car owner, driver evolves from a passion for cars. With less of the latter, there's less of the former.

Back in the day in my little hamlet, there were many car guys around town doing something to their car every night - if nothing other than leaning on it over a few beers. Some of those same guys are still around and still puttering, but no one has taken the place of those who have dropped out. What was maybe 20-30 hot rodders and buddies, might be 5 today - certainly not more than 10.

That target demographic just isn't into cars and racing like it was a generation ago.

And, I still like the big tracks. I'm not going to say they have the best racing- hell, I'm just going to admit that they don't -  but I still like them. The power and speed.......

Well said

No doubt. Their car count issues aren't a problem at the big shows like the Weikert Memorial. That show could see 40 plus cars in the pits. Their issues are with the regular weekly shows.

Port is still missing Blaine Heimbach, Mikey Wagner, Daryl Stimeling, Joey Hershey, Trenton Shaeffer and Dustin Baney glad you saw a good race at Lincoln but I also saw a good race and I attended Port Royal.

I don't own a seat but as far as where I normally sit, more power to them. I typically don't worry about who's sitting where at a track that I'm not attending.

Decided on Port this past week and was surprized by 26 cars ,manangement did the right thing letting all cars start the feature track was extremely fast and Esh ,Hodnett and Lafferty really put on a good show.

Only problem going back to the original post only 12 cars made both races and alot will most likely not be back this week. The six or seven Mercer cars almost all ran decent but surely will stay closer to home.

Ryan Smith,Tyler Esh and Cole Duncan will be in Ohio for the All Stars and Eric Tomadek will be at Selinsgrove,of the ones listed above not sure if any will be out yet.

Any word on what happened to Wayne Dadetto in the 36D last year he made the Lincoln opemer,BUT ONLY RAN A FEW SHOWS LATE IN THE YEAR?

Speaking of PA, anyone else see the serious shade that Dietrich is throwing Susky's way after announcing they are going to run with ASCOC at Atomic this Sunday. Wow.

" only 12 cars made both races"....

Which 2 races are you talking about?

I really want to like him, but he makes it so hard to do. He's got a ton of talent. He's the obvious heir to the Posse throne when Hodnett and Lance hang it up but sometimes his attitude is very difficult to take.

I think he's talking about both races that Port has had this season. By my calculations, he's correct.

I still like him, but I understand and pretty much agree with your assessment.  It's like..... Dude, we get it, you got the hook at Susky, and you hated the call. It may have been unfair and embarassing, and if you chose to not race there again this year, I'd totally get it.  But when you are quoted in a press release saying, "I dont think there are any other options worth acknowledging", it comes off as smug.  He has the right to run wherever he wants to run and I hope he wins at Atomic, but settle down a tiny bit.  If he wanted to get people talking and stir the pot, he succeeded in doing that.

In the end, I dont think it hurts Susky much at all.  They'll still have quite a few cars and a bunch of fans in the stands on Sunday.  I do think that Susky needs to get it together though.  There's a few people who are kinda giving them a "one more chance" type of thing.  They gotta clean up the delays and stuff.  Sundays are a different ball of wax than Fridays and Saturday's for obvious reasons.

What's wrong with that? DD usaully comes out each June for the All Star Speedweek out here anyway. Atomic is on the SW schedule - maybe he's looking for a little track time. Glad he's coming out. He has a lot of fans out here.

Excellent article on DD and Susky on Sprint Car Unlimited. Apparently he had a one race suspension from the incident last season.

I heard about that too.  That's why I wasn't going over the top on criticism of his comment.  Personally, I think he just could have chosen his words differently.  Am I nitpicking?..... Probably....

It doesn't change the fact that I want him to go to Ohio and win the damn race. Good luck.

Dead on the money. He flat out took one in the ass from Susky last year. If he never runs another lap there, I don't blame him one bit. But you're right, the comment he made comes off as extremely smug. He says things like that way too often. I'm all about telling it like it is but he needs to learn how to do it with a little bit of class. As far as Susky, I'm right there with you. They need to get their shit together.
