Central PA is a good case study on the impact of short track racing on COVID counts. From PA speedweeks to the Outlaws at the Grove, tens of thousands of people have attended races in Central PA, a lot of them who live in the region. You can look at the following as an indication these races have had little to no impact on the regional COVID counts.

  • July 29-Aug. 4: 851 new cases (-33 from previous week)
  • July 22-28: 884 new cases (+77 from previous week)
  • July 15-21: 807 new cases (-11 from previous week)
  • July 8-14: 818 new cases (+154 from previous week)

These stats (cases from the "Susquehanna Valley" which includes most if not all of Central PA) are from a local TV station news report (link below).

And to even dig a little deeper on this.  Take Port, which gets a ton of Juniata County residents in attendance along with the outsiders.  Juniata County, since racing has resumed, has increased by what 10 cases, maybe not even that much.  And that's over two months plus. So yeah, little to no impact at all.

I've been to several races and the only case that I have heard of is that Barry Skelly a novelty stand owner at Lincon Speedway contracted the virus maybe, he is 78 I think, haven't heard of him passing yet, maybe it was a false positive. All of my racing friends still seem as healthy as they usually are and we've been going to the races all through this nasty old china virus.

There was also a concession stand worker (the up at the pit area) who left the track sick and later tested positive. I purchased some food and drink about 10 minutes before the ambulance arrived.

But depending on the % increase, they can call that a "surge". This is where the news media has done us no good.

I am not sure that one was ever confermed by another test. I do know that it was determined that his symtoms were caused by another issue.

All I can say is that because of the stupidity and arogance of Americans (like many on this thread), there's going to be some great deals on some used Harley Davidson motorcycles in a few weeks...

Barry passed away today. Saw from a post. Very sad. Also one at Port Royal and again you may not know ic someone is asymptomatic and I doubt anyone would tell if they got it at the track. Who would want to admit if and then tell who they have been in contact.

There's more going on at lincoln speedway with the virus then the General public knows. The racing community is tight knit but ..the truth is slowly leaking out. Be very careful especially in the pit area.

*Arrogance

If you're going to make broad comments insulting your fellow Americans, do try to spell the words correctly.
