Yes, the Race is On Speed Shift Tv...

Also, the biggest news, Tim Shaffer is running the 100k Mansfield Show...

I'm not new to forums, but I ownly posted a couple times here and I can't post a simple copy & paste link here to it... It's saying it doesn't support my browser... I'm using google chrome for Christ sakes...

So, I am assuming that this means TIm is no longer a Platinum WoO member, because there is no way he is getting a waiver to run this race if no one else is.

That had me stumped for a while too. In the reply box. click on the 4th icon from the left up top, a box with a little W. Another box will come up. Paste in that box, then click on "insert"

I'm blown away that more big names aren't registered and talking about this race. Last I saw there was only 30 some drivers registered (with a handful of those being local squirrels). I hope teams are just waiting on the weather... I know Sommers has announced and pushed back the driver registration "deadline" but is he really going to turn down entries after the deadline? I doubt it. Any driver who runs the nationals should be entered to run this race. With no outlaws being able to attend the chances of taking home some money are greatly increased. Before its all said and done I hope to see: Abreu, Bayston, Thorson, Saldana, Brian Brown, Kerry Madsen, Terry/Austin McCarl, Tatnell, Balog, Dietrich, Rahmer, Dewease, Hodnett... and all the other big knoxville and PA regulars I'm forgetting. Should be an awesome event.

Dewease has it on his schedule.

Why would any driver who enters the Nationals want to enter this race?

1)Knoxville Nationals has a $554,000 A Main which pays $10,000 to start, plus another $450,000 distributed over 3 other days of racing.  The A Main for this event is $200,500, with starting money of only $2,000.  That is a big difference.  While I get why everyone likes what he is doing, much like the Gateway event, there isn't enough compensation in the rest of this program to make it worth a team to leave their home area to run at Mansfield, which brings up point 2.  Gateway works because there is no competition in December, but by this date in April all the other tracks and series are up an running.

2)Race teams all have sponsors, and those sponsors pay to see their teams at Knoxville, and Lincoln etc.  The number of "national" teams is pretty limited that aren't running the Outlaws.  Sponsors expect to see their teams at Knoxville and Lincoln.  Which gets me to point 3.

3)If he really wants this to be a national event like it is being billed, he needs to move the date to September, or realistically the week after the National Open.  That would be a time where you could draw all the cars from Knoxville and PA.

The Knoxville Nationals is a special event that works because it pays gobs of money.  If you want to see a feild at Mansfield similar to Knoxville, then put up a $1,000,000 purse.  Chuck Brennan tried the same deal at Husets and got a limited field, and Tod Quiring is putting up close to $300,000 (plus paying the Outlaw ransome) to make the Jackson Nationals a premier event.

Welp, it looks as if the SCWC @ Mansfield is going to pull a field similar to Knoxville after all... 79 pre-registered as of yesterday. All you doubters had me convinced teams wouldn't travel for this purse but now I'm assuming they'll get close to 100 cars. Seems like every 410 team in the country will be there (or at least the ones I care about) haha. Just like I said, with the WoO being in Texas that weekend, other teams odds of winning are significantly higher. Exactly why every single team that runs knoxville should be at Mansfield... and it sounds like its going to happen. Please please please let the weather be 60° and sunny.

EDIT: Well it looks like Mansfield tweeted if you are not pre-registered you can not race... so the field will stay at 79. Still compareable to knoxville's field in my opinion. Knoxville had 101 entires in 2017, 17 of those being full time outlaws this year and unable to attend Mansfield SCWC. So 84 non outlaws @ Knoxville vs. 79 @ Mansfield.

EDIT: Nevermind, registration closes April 25th, it was pre-registration that closed already... the field will continue to grow.

Yes I believe speed shift will be carrying it.

Thinking of getting the Speedshift Mansfield show. Is it worth the $65 for both days? Is it just one camera up high, or multiple camera angles? My only experience with streaming a race was with Eldora, and I thought they did an excellent job.

Thanks.

Speedshift is usually good. I recall they had a camera up by the suites for GLDN last year but unsure if more than one angle. If you dig through the Mansfield facebook you can find the videos I'm referring too. Like August last year. Or just look at videos only.

IMO $65.00 for the two days is spendy, but Speed Shift tends to be spendy anyhow as a rule. But we have a choice, watch or don't. Smile

You mean Kreitz/DeWease/ Brown  #69 team? Seems like good bet to me...

I'd like to see the 69K guys win.   It might get their car to Knoxville this year.

I'd also like to see Tim Shaeffer win since he is really pushing the "True outlaw" schedule and skipping a WoO event.

I predict:

1. Ryan Smith (see youtube videos from last year)

2. Dewease

3. Shaeffer

PA fan here really looking forward to this event.

Hodnett was on the Sprintcar Unlimited podcast in February and said at that time he wasn't sure about going to Mansfield because of the crew help situation.   Greg seemed to imply that most race decisions hinge on crew help.

I thought it was also said that Dietrich is not going.

I agree that as many of the teams that can go should. The start money is very good.  Also the track and promoter should be thanked and supported for having an unsanctioned  big money race.  Thank you to the track for putting the sanction fee into the purse instead of lining certain people's pockets.

You do know Greg will be at Williamsgrove and Port Royal that weekend and the crew will be intact.   Friday - Saturday in PA racing for peanuts or Friday - Saturday in eastern OH racing for the big bucks.  So something doesn't smell right with this excuse.  Last night he started on the front row at Port led for a while and was passed by Blaney and Wolfe.

Let's go Sprint Car Racing!

Knoxville - Best Track In the USA!
Eldora - 2nd Best Track in the USA!

I seem to remember a year or two ago that Terry McCarl ran an abbreviated Platinum status with the WoO. He ran up until the opener of the Knoxville regular season as a Platinum driver. I'm not sure how that was worked out, but maybe somene on Hoseheads does know.

Guys do this often (I guess "often" is a relative term) to get Platinum benefits through early swing (usually through California) and then drop off tour.  Most let the WoO know intentions when doing so.  I believe Saldana is technically a "Platinum Member" this year also but it was announced he would follow ASCOC.  So Rudeen (or McCarl or DR Racing or whomever) pay the platinum membership fee assuming the added benefits (tow money, pit gate, etc.) will outweigh the membership cost through the first part of the season or however long they remain "on tour."

Maybe Johnny can fill us in a bit more.  I'm guessing, or maybe wondering, if they have paid their "platinum member" fee if they have access to the benefits at later shows too.  For example let's say Rudeen/Saldana does not run another WoO show for a few weeks then hits the King's Royal.  At said WoO event does he get "platinum" member benefits?

Thanks for the info. I really doubt that the Platinum status would exist for the KR if Saldana drops off the tour in advance of it. But, there may be a process in place for a driver to sign back up for the last couple months of the tour. Not necessarily Saldana if he's committed to the All Stars, but that would fit a local driver who is running like a Knoxville regular (or wherever) and wants to pick back up with the tour after the Knoxville season has ended.
