Johnny Gibson is the best,he's knowlegable and a good guy who will talk to anybody..He's not snobbish or stuck up, just a good person all round..

I am starting to agree that Gibson's voice is ear piercing when he raises it especially for the starting lineup and the nicknames.  If he would keep it at lower than he is fine.  Also getting tired of his choice of the same type of music during the feature line up. The wife and I are starting to mute the tv during this time.

The Mike Emerick of sprint- car racing.......don't ever change....we love it.

the only post that needs to exist in this thread.  i said the same thing to him during a facebook live chat he had last year...which he appreciated because unfortunately he's a pittsburgh fan.

he's the best.  there is no other discussion to have.  everyone on here seems to think they can a.  be a track announcer or b.  prepare a track.

I got thick skin, sweetheart.

I'm always amazed how guys feel tough sitting behind a computer (or mobile phone) screen.

You disagree with me - I get it. But there's no reason for name calling. This isn't high school. I don't know if you're a liberal or not, but you are surely displaying the general liberal mindset. And that is if someone sees things different from you then berate them with insults until they stop expressing themselves or change their mind. Good luck with that.

Now can we act like adults and perhaps respect the opinions of others?

Johnny Gibson became the World of Outlaw's official announcer starting with the 1997 season. The reason I remember that is because that is the only time I went to a WoO show at Las Vegas where I remember asking Greg Stephens about it and he told me that was the deal. I thought it was great news and that it was a step forward for the organization. At that point the WoO had been in existence 19 years having started in 1978. 22 years later Johnny is still doing it! Let that sink in for a bit. From what I have heard he has not missed very many races along the way. You can debate his style all you want but what he has done over those 22 years shows an unbelievable level of dedication that is rare in this world. It hurts my head to think about everything he has done and experienced during that time. He had been selling programs for several years prior to becoming the announcer on top of all that!

I do not question the man's dedication, work ethic or knowledge of the sport. And from what little I've heard of him he's a man of character as well, to his credit.

FWIW, not everyone will like a certain announcers style, cadence, etc. etc. Everyone is entitled to that.

What isn't debatable is the commitment that folks like Gibby make to the this sport to better it, raise awareness for it and the infectious joy that comes through when you hear the commentary. Pick you sporting league...... they all have that upper echleon of announcers/commentators that truly drive interest in the sport. Gibby is certainly in that fraternity for sprint car racing.

He's prepartion if rarely, if ever, matched. He's calls are iconic. You can not like those things..... fair..... no need to spew non-sense on a message forum. If need be, ear plugs help immensely.
