The hostility on HH is way out of control

We all share a love of sprint car racing, which is supposed to be FUN

IOW has lots of different opinions too, but people treat each other with lots more respect, usually

We''ll get our races back eventually
Calm down, Hosers

You called for somebody to be banned because they disagreed with your opinions. I agree with this particular post from you, but otherwise, pot meet kettle.

wolf has been reopening in the last few weeks.  slowly...but reopening.  you can show me your medical degree or the degrees of the people you counsel with if you think reopening everything...immediately...would have been a good idea.

i have mixed feeling about today.  on one hand i think it's time to go racing.  the selinsgrove model would have been perfect and the governor would've been wrong to shut it down again.  i'd like to hope pa speedweek could be fairly normal after a couple weeks in june of regular weekly shows.

but i hate the way lincoln is doing this.  it comes off as a cash grab...again.  i'm sure they're donating the money they make to a memorial day charity...right?  you could argue there is no right way to do this...but since i do think it's time to start up again...here's how they should have handled it:

-mandatory masks...there's a cdc advisory out to wear them.  i know the president doesn't wear it so they must not be useful.  common sense says wear them.  how hard is it anyway?  i got used to people wearing them when i lived in japan during my time in the navy.

-any information about how many people will be allowed in and where they can stand.  they've put out 1 release about this whole thing which was friday to announce it was happening.  nothing since.  it tells me they have no plan and are adding additional areas mainly to increase attendance...not keep people safe.

-internet ticket sales.  no tickets at the door.  i almost wish i can be there to see all the people who have been whining about losing their freedom shifting all their anger at lincoln speedway if they get turned away.

-a waiver to not seek medical care.  the point of this whole quarantine to prevent a surge of patiens and protect the resources we have to take care of people.  central pa has been lucky mostly because people have behaved like adults...for the most part...over the last 2 months.  that can all go out the window quickly if we put our guard down.

you're right...you should be able to make your own decisions...but there should be consequences to those decisions that don't put other people at risk too.  i'm taking my family to see some waterfalls today.  if lincoln had only waited a couple of weeks or even taken after the world of outlaws...they might have been able to do this completely the right way.

As someone pushing 70 I'm considered high risk so I came up with some simple rules of thumb regarding when it will be safe for me to attend large gatherings.  Politicians who are being tested daily and have handlers that do everything for them so they don't have to expose themselves are telling me that it's safe for me to go out and carry on as if it things were normal.  When those same politicians are back out there shaking hands and kissing babies I will consider listening to them.

One neighboring state took their governor's order to keep things closed to their state supreme court.  The court met and overturned the governor's order so now there is racing with crowds 45 minutes from home just across the border a few miles.  The descision was made in a remote session from their homes and delivered to the public from isolation.  When that state supreme court is back to meeting publicly and we see how the opening plays out  then I will consider whether I want to attend a race over there.

I got caught needing a haircut when everything went into lockdown a couple months ago so I really need one bad now.  I thought "should I trust that it's safe or should I wait?"  Then I read about the Missouri hair stylist who was asymptomatic and exposed the virus to something like 140 customers and co-workers.

No doubt some will scold me for my cautious approach but they're probably in their 30's and have a totally different outlook.  Others would say that the death rate isn't as high as predicted or even as high as the flu.  I would answer that it depends on age and the hospitalization rate is much higher than anything we've seen.  Sheet time averages 3-6 weeks at an estimated cost starting at $73,000.  At that cost if I got it I'd probably hope that it does kill me because my share of the bill surely would anyways.  I know a woman and her son who had it for a month.  Her son got it at school wrestling before the schools were closed.  It was a long difficult recovery and she is a business owner trying to keep her head above water so she has seen the effects from both sides.

Basically the politicians are selling us a variation of "do as I say and not as I do".  That brings up another point of concern, that politicians and scientists are going out on a limb staking their careers on how they handle this.  One side says get back out in public and don't worry which will look foolish if this gets out of control.  The other side is betting their political future on warning us and taking a slower approach.  That concerns me when they are willing to go all in on their future and tells me they might know more than they're letting on.  In a couple of months this will have played out to the point where we know which course was wise but nobody can answer that question today without political bias.

As far as this relates to racing I have two PPV channels plus NASCAR and am watching more racing than I have time for or could ever hope to attend.  In the meantime I can sit back and see what happens to all these people who have been out mingling in crowds after a few weeks.  I'm retired and have been going to races for sixty years so it won't hurt to miss a couple months of attending them live.  There has never been a better time to follow this sport from a distance so I can wait it out until what the politicians are telling me matches the reality of how they're handling their public contacts.

It's my job to look out for my own ass because nobody else will in this political wasteland we have today.

Stan you are proof that with age comes wisdom.  Well said! (as someone 30 years your junior, I'm taking a very similar approach).

Thanks, I'm sitting back watching the masses and doing what works for me and not telling anyone else what they can or can't do.  I saw that our state released a stat the other day that the most affected age group in Minnesota is 40-49 and second highest 30-39.  The death rate is misleading because flu numbers span over a year and our current corona numbers only took a couple months.  Like I said, I sure as hell don't want to die because I felt like I had to go to a race but if I get it and have to pay a percentage of that bill I probably should have croaked.

PPV is awesome so no worries from me.  I always felt like chasing races was a waste of time and money, not the time at the race but the travel and motel expenses.  Any other sport I can drive down to St. Paul or Minneapolis and watch in the stadium and be home in my own bed that night.  With racing it's not unusual to have to drive four to six hundred miles round trip, get a room, gas and food and pay for it all because I travel alone.  Finally this sport has caught up with other sports so a person doesn't have to chase it every weekend to be a fan.  It only took over 50 years to get there.  wink

PS, I still do a lot of dumb shit so I'm not sure about the wisdom...

I love the PPV option because I've definitely seen many races from tracks I didn't even know existed or would ever get to in person.  PPV certainly doesn't hold a candle to the live event (and every so often has a hiccup like Pevely the other night with Gibson calling a great prelim only to have the camera stuck on the drone shot in the pit area, they did replay it at least).  The only downfall of PPV in my opinion is that you watch what the camera guys and director choose for you as opposed to what you decide to watch when you're at the track.  But the pros far outweigh the cons in my opinion.

You really are that thick.  Everything I posted was about racing and working...along with if you feel comfortable doing it.  If you don't stay home.  I will be at Lincoln real soon. If the governor stops that then he gets hammered!!

THANKS FOR RACING!

You are turning into the biggest dickhead on this board. Strawser is bad enough but he lives in PA, he has "skin in the game" if you get my drift. Youi are nothing but a weak ass hypocrite. Stay the F out of PA and its business and worry about your own issues. Maybe your Good Book will help you.  Sorry rev, but not really.

Revjimk is NOT turning into the Biggest dickhead on this board but rather is the biggest dickhead on this board.  he attacks posters with his libtard logic but then states he NEVER brings up politics.  That is a crock of shit.  Every post he makes has a POLITICAL AGENDA attached to it.  Just because you dont say Republican this and Republicans that doesnt mean you are not insinuating it.  You do the same dam thing on IOW and post the same lame ass Libtard Bullshit there too.  If anyone disagrees with your way of thinking you have this little baby Snowfalke crying hissyfit.

Now although I dont live in PA Im in NJ on the border,  NY NJ AND PA Democratic Governers need to OBEY THE CONSTITUTION OF THE USA and let busisness's open and let people be free.  Racetracks should open up and let the fans go if they want to and tell the Governers FUCK YOU.  We are adults and FREE PEOPLE we dont need the "NANNY STATE" to dictate what we can and cant do.

OPEN UP THE RACE TRACKS let the dirt fly the Methanol and Cam 2 fuel burn let the roar of the engines roar and lets see some contrails off the Sprint Car WIngs make it a friggng dust bowl circus and lets go racing

This 30 something year old thinks you are a very wise man. I agree with your approach and have taken a similar approach. Although I'm not high risk due to my age, I have respiratory issues and have had since birth. Just getting the flu almost guarantees me getting bronchitis as well and on 4 occasions in my life, pneumonia. 3 of those times led to hospitalization for multiple days. I have always taken simple precautions my whole life because of it so some of this really is business as usual for me. Seeing how some people are losing their minds over this and throwing a fit has entertained me a little bit. Best decision I made last year was to cut cable and just stream whatever television I want so it makes it very easy to not listen to politicans. I don't care what any politician says or what policy they make, I can always adapt. I can listen read multiple science publications that have no bias in them and make the best decision for myself.

Only  thing that I have missed is going to the race track but I can live with that for the time being. I know that it is not a permanent thing and eventually I will get back to one in the future. Might still go to the Nationals if they still happen with fans but I will cross that bridge when it comes. As of now, I am putting money aside from all the races I would have gone to and may take some trips outside of Ohio next year if this thing is cleared up by then. The PPV have been great so far from Knoxville and Pevely so that gave me a small fix to get me over the hump a little bit. Nothing beats being at the track for me, but if the fields and the racing continue like they have at I 55 & Knoxville then it will be a sufficent substitute to get me through the year. I am able to learn and do other hobbies outside away from a large group of people to entertain myself. Hope everyone continues to stay safe and healthy. We will get through this.

Ironic you invoke the Constitution when you don't have a basic understanding of case law that pertains to this area. First, the Federal Courts have shown deference to the States on handling large scale public heath concerns. Also, State, Federal and Supreme Courts have upheld quarantines, vaccines and even withholding voting privileges for public health concerns over the individual freedoms. This quote is from the majority in the Supreme Court case Jacbson vs. Massachusetts, “may be justified in restricting individual liberty ... under the pressure of great dangers.”

I'm sure professionals could argue both ways on how current states' actions may or may not be “arbitrary or oppressive”. The fact is we have not seen much in the way of legal actions being brought against states at this point.

Take a second before composing a post that throws insults around in a poorly written manner. It really makes you look like a kid having a hissyfit.

Stan M... The last line in your post says it all. Sure guys bring politics onto a sprint car board. But the political wasteland is a larger pandemic than this virus.

Any results from lincoln ? No, just more politics.

Congratulations Brian Monteith.

It was nice to see him have 35 consecutive laps without any bad luck or disasters caused by other drivers' mistakes.

Speaking of Lincoln I'd like to take a PA trip before it's too late.  They have some great racing back there.

Does anybody know if they had to turn away any fans due to "limited seating"?  I'm anxious to get back to a track, but really do not want to drive an hour then be told you can not get in.  Hopefully Port follows suit soon being a reserved seat holder, they way it looks guarentees you get in.  Anyways good to have sprints back in central pa and enjoyed watching them on Speedshift!
