I am also 15 hrs away and not too busy so this would be a sweet deal if i could cross a border and have a few other things to do this weekend in the area, if not for the distance.

So in my province we have had 320ish and 4 deaths and a max 8 in hospital at one time. Not sure the total hospitalized as the 8 could have rotated thru more. A very small number was ever considered critical. I'm not painting the whole world with my paintbrush but the issue was much less than anticipated here and we are very thankful for that. Just over 50 of our million people are infected now but we still have a very limited business sector and zero gathering of more than 10. I am blessed to not know anyone with the virus, I know of 1 man who a friend knows and that is it. Please forgive me if this question seems silly to you due to my non involvement, but when you say you have family with the virus, has it made them very ill? Has their life been changed more than a bad flu or cold? Or are they pretty much living thru it with minor adjustments to daily life.

Sincerely,

Rod

Even though I may not know you, I
care what most of you think!

My chief in the Navy told a bunch of us drunken sailors not to go to Orange Blossom Trail in Orlando. Guess where the first place we went to was?

The governor is powerless.

Our Chief told us to stay out of Piraeus, Greece, aka "the gut" but some didn't listen and got some nasty shit.  When I saw them scream while hanging onto the urinal I decided to listen to the experienced ones.  Saw the shore patrol beat a few asses and haul them back to the ship as well.  wink

The race made national news today and the responses make the Kyle Larson disaster look small-"trailer trash event""redneck hillbillys""let them all die"etc Not that anyone here cares what the public perception of racers is,but its great to see nothing has changed

I wouldn't be surprised to see race footage and interviews with a negative spin on the national news after the fact.  If anything negative regarding spread of the virus comes of it there will be some bad press.  If nothing bad happens there will be crickets chirping so loud I'll hear them all the way up here in central Minnesota.  That is to be expected and reflects the opinion of the masses.

Park Jefferson statement regarding Saturdays Race for Fans

Park Jefferson statement regarding Saturdays Race for Fans

After discussions with the South Dakota Department of Health, other state officials and county commissioners, Front Row Challenge Motorsports and Park Jefferson Speedway have decided to run Saturday’s Open Wheel Nationals event without spectators.

Governor Noem and her team have been doing a great job leading our state and have asked the citizens to be smart and innovative in how they operate. While we felt we were innovative in how we were addressing fan safety by abiding by the CDC guidelines, we also know the importance of working with our officials guidance on fan attendance.

We truly appreciate the outpouring of support from all of the fans and sanctioning bodies for our event. We hope to be able to offer you the chance to come to Park Jefferson Speedway for an event in the very near future. We hope you will still join us Saturday live on Speed Shift TV for an exciting night of 410 sprint cars and IMCA Modified racing.

For spectators holding tickets, you will be receiving an email notice that we are refunding your tickets back to the card you purchased the tickets with and hope you can join us at the track in the near future.

I tried to post this link but for some reason it didn't work.  They just announced that after talking with state officials they have decided to race without spectators and issue refunds to fans who bought tickets.

Beginning of a interesting time to see how viable the PPV model can be in this time of limited or no attendance.  It may be this way for the bulk of the season.

PPV could be huge.  Not able to stream it to a bar and entertain 200 patrons.  Not able to have a party at your house with 15 or so guests.

Thumbs up on the refunds!  Very right thing to do.  Glad they are still racing!  Glad ticketholders got their money back.  Refunds are not always a given in these situations...

PPV will be huge,  most likely a record # of worldwide logins for Speedshift if not the sport of racing in general.

This could go either way.   If Speedshift has the server capaicity and bandwidth to handle it, this could be a game changer for the sport.    If something goes sideways because of the extra traffic,  vengeful computer nerd ultra liberal whacko  hacking or launching a denial of services attack, or whatever...this could get ugly fast and play into future decisions regarding this type of show.

You really think a dirt race in South Dakota would pop up on "vengeful computer nerd ultra liberal whacko" radar?

FFS, this to us is a huge deal. But to the rest of the country it was just a blip on news services for a day or two and then forgotten as a bunch of beer drinking red necks watching cow tipping.

My guess of 400 people in the pits, just jumped a bit because some family related grandstand spectators will now also go into the pits with the teams. Still a pretty low risk.

To put things in context, that will be maybe a 10th of the idiots at my local Lowes this weekend.

Yes,  I do think that it will be on the radar of many more people than those who know what Hoseheads and Indiana Open Wheel are.    The reason is that this has already made national news and is being commented on/tweeted out by the talking heads that "ultra liberal whacko types" tend to frequent.  (see links in posts before ours)    It has already made mainstream media and whether anyone wants to admit it or not,  a lot of eyes will be looking for the "big picture" that comes out of this.

It could be a record for SSTV, but I doubt it even shows up on the radar when talking general racing. I can't imagine it ges within a hundredth of the number of people who watch any given F1 race through OTT services or F1 Pro.

Will definitely be interesting to see if SSTV does have the backend for this. I'm hoping they do but won't be surprised if they don't.

Looks like a chance of rain Saturday in Jefferson as well, could play into things.

Hopefully if it does run, you'll be able to enjoy it without your tinfoil cap getting in way! God knows we can't have the ULTRA LIBERAL HACKERS controlling your mind.

FYI the last 5 sprint entries are: Brock Zearfoss, Anthony Fiore, Dylan Norris, Zach Daum, Brendon Mullen.

I would strongly encourage getting the PPV so we can have more of these in the future.

Ya I have seen a lot of big mod names. I saw Thomas Kennedy trying to get a pardon to come from Canada to race. Past that I really haven't seen many sprints sadly though my gut says enough will come. Maybe not 32. Anyone feel free to post as they see confirmations and I'll try and do the same.

Hope they have decent weather. In this area getting a show in April has a pretty good chance of rain. a promoter friend had a race several years in Webster  City temps were in 70s+ perfect weather. He had the largest crowd all year and made the most profit  and told me the next 3 races lost all he had gained. People are hungry for some racing although risky to some it  i hope it openes some eyes that it is time to  quit hiding from the covid -19.

I would be more concerned about the 50% rain chance in the afternoon and having enough bandwidth to handle the stream.  I have high speed internet along with my TV's both hard wired to the router.  I never have a problem with buffering or the screen looking up with any other service or live stream except for dirt racing.  It remains to be seen if a 100% PPV model will work for racing so this should be a good test.  I am going to sit this one out and see what the chatter is the day after.  I'm also questioning how a PPV model that would require a higher per race charge to be profitable would square with my paid year long membership on Flo if some of the listed events had to take without fans.  Would my paid membership cover it and what does the fine print say?  I paid for what I can afford in good faith but I suspect that business model I signed up for in February would not cover the expenses in this new reality.  This whole thing could thin out the PPV services and drive the prices up which would put me out of the game.  There are a lot of unknowns until we see things start to fall in place.
