How many of the people on this thread have ever held a microphone and called ANY live sporting event?

I'm honestly curious if anyone weighing in on this thread has ever  done any announcing?

I guess I annoy you like Johnny annoys me , you know what he will say before he says it . I SUPPOSE you can't take strong
opinions Mr. Maddog53 . Or just  I have to agree with you and all your friends on here. Opinions and sometime facts can make people think , can you sir .

Yeah Bob, and you know what?  When Hosers open the page and see you have started a topic, WE KNOW WHAT YOU ARE GOING TO SAY TOO......STOP, PLEASE.............

Thats Gibsons trade mark, if he always changed the way he announces and the music he played it wouldnt be the same. My Grandpa was a track announcer in Fargo and the upper Midwest for over 30years. Keep his same slogan before every race and same style of music every night. When it came time for him to hang it up it wasnt the same at all, actually had fans booing the new announcer and stopped showing up. Gibson is just as important to the WoO show as the races.

It's really to bad Limaland didn't let thier regular announcer do the Doty. You all would really appreciate Johnny a little more. Now no doubt some of you like certain announcers. Liskai from Attica & Fremont would be a good one & for not doing it a lot Gerry Keysor would be a pretty good one also.

Peapod ayeeeee, might just have to look into that. LOL

He did change it up this year. He left out STP SPRINT CARS........LOL.  NOT BY CHOICE but was different. Asking Johnny to change would-be like asking Bruce Ellis to stop saying " It,s Showtime at Williams Grove Speedway " It,s their calling card and would be missed it they stopped, or change it.

Absolutely. Bruce's showtime at Williams Grove Speedway call is awesome. In fact, it was my ringtone for quite some time when I had my old flip phone lol.

Its amazing the things that we complain and debate about in our sport. Same thing every year, Wing or non-wing, tire sizes, wing sizes, purses, Schatz on "traction control" because we can't accept he is that damn good, Anti Sammy fans calling him an ass while pro Sammy fans saying FU to them, Tyler Walker deserving to compete despiting having 100 strikes against him, Larson, 1 track not having up to date facilities, the other track charging too much, WoO apparently going under every year for the past 20 years (that one is my personal favorite), and now on what Johnny Gibson says before a race.

The guy has more passion for the sport than most of us combined. When he is not calling a race he is usually at another race watching it as a fan and people are complaining about something he has said for over a decade or more and the music that he plays in between the races? He is a staple of the WoO and will be with them until he does not want to be. And if he wants to play Alan Parsons project as they line up for 4 wide, followed by Welcome to the Jungle or Tom Sawyer Sawyer it really is not that big of a deal. I doubt he is chasing any fans away. I can't wait until the season starts already. Then we can start complaining about front row winners like that has not happened for 30+ friggin years in every form of sprint car racing, formats and how we "need" to change it to something that will produce the same exact results, and how many laps the Nationals should be.

The same guys who say they don't like the outlaws, and the racing is boring, and using " who can beat Schatz" is the only way they can promote their races to fans are the same guys bitching about what Jonny says and the music he plays. I find that highly contradictory, if you know what Jonnys gonna say before he says it, you must be watching a hell of alot more WoO races than me, You guys sure do know alot about a series that you all claim sucks,  and you sure know alot about Jonny's music and what he's about to say for guys who thinks he sucks. Maybe just maybe your jealous that your racing dreams didn't come true like Jonny's did. No matter how hard you try to be important in Sprintcar racing, no one gives a shit what you have to say, sucks to be you.

Alan Parsons Project?  I have one rule in life and that's, if music is good enough for the mid-90's Chicago Bulls and Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat then it's definitely good enough for me to listen to while the 410's are doing the four-wide salute.

In all honesty.... very well said Nick, but someone please kill this thread.  Kill it with fire.  Along with about three other threads lingering up here at the top.

Darrell Waltrip is the reason I stopped listening to that series.

I've heard some bad ones (Shawn Brouse's "play in the clay at Port Royal Speedway" thing comes to mind. Reminds me of something you'd hear on Mr. Rodger's neighborhood, not sprint cars going 130 mph) but if I had to listen to Darrell or Michael Waltrip announce at my weekly tracks, I'd spend a lot more time doing other things.

You don't have to be an announcer to recognize a voice that shouldn't be announcing. I think your question should've been "I'm honestly curious if anyone weighing in on this thread has ears?"

Here we are 8 years after this thread was started and Gibson is still employed as the voice of the Outlaws. He can be smart as a whip, extremely knowledgeable and a very classy person, but with his voice he shouldn't be calling races.

Fire away, Gibson lovers. And with some experience, yes I do think I could do a better job.

Just to clear this up: Gibson is NOT just as important to the WoO show as the races.

Holy Thread Bump, Batman.

Gotta love when a SIX YEAR OLD thread is resurrected.  Or is this dirtlover's alter ego
