That's the way the rules work in EVERY series. You don't go to the scales, you get DQ'ed. Someone will have to explain to me why that isn't fair.

After several races where apparent winners were interviewed in victory lane, then found to be light at the scales the All Stars and WoO both scale the top five before declaring the winner. The drivers meeting covered this as well as the radio after the race. Lawrenceburg even has a nice scoring tower with the top five displayed. I am sure it was not that he was avoiding the scales, he simply stopped before scaling. Seeing that he was the only one on the front stretch, it was definitely an expensive oversight, and I can only assume he wondered where the other cars were. I never seen any official telling him to stop, and if the IRA handles post race weighing differently, maybe he simply stopped on his own. He ran a heck of a race, and it's a shame how it ended up for his team.

If that was the case it was an expensive oversight.

Ummmm, no, many series do the post race interview and victory. lane befort the drivers go to the scales, you just have to go to the scales before going back to your pit area. Thus, you go straight to the scales from victory lane. That is what Balog is used to, and that's why he stopped. The rule is designed so drivers don't go back to their trailer, do something to the car and then go to the scales. The only reason to have the drivers go to the scales before going to victory lane, as Janet indicated is so the fans know that the ones in victory lane are the actual top 3. it wouldn't have been bending the rules to tell balog, you gotta go to the scales when he stopped on the track, and push him there. All he did was stop on the track. He didn't go to his pit area. You don't see people getting disqualified for stopping under a red flag, and really the only difference is that the race was over. Yes the rule is go to the scales before victory lane. So tell him to go to the scales and push him there. Now he hasn't broken the rules. Instead they let him stop there, held victory lane, and then said since he went to the scales after victory lane he was disqualified. That's just ridiculous.

so he actually did go to the scales, just after he stopped on the track?

doesn't the All Star rule book say that you must go to the scales, then to victory lane, or face a $500 fine for not doing so?

a $500 fine? That's just rediculous, so not only is he screwed out of his pay but he gets fined too? Wow no wonder nobody follows this shitty series then!

the rule book says fined - not disqalified for victory lane then to scales. had he run out of fuel, or broke the rear end and stopped on the front stretch on a cool down lap, would the DQ still have been enforced?

I've got to beleive that going to the scales was reviewed by the officials at the driver's meeting before the races; even if you had a podium finish. So while the ruling may be unpopular with some, it was probably discussed prior to any racing began; and who cares if the IRA does the front stretch thing before the scales... it was an AllStar race!

If the scales are in the pits,it would make sense to a non -regular NOT to go to the scales.Too many "if"statements in this thread. More importantly, why didn't the All Star officials use their MANDATORY "Raceceiver" communication devices(radios)to alert the driver in question. In the old days,Bert and Rick would do everything possible to satisfy the non-member racers who came to support them. !!!!!!!!

I would fully understand if the driver went to his pit but if the car never left the racing surface & no team members approached the car then I just don't understand why he wasn't told & pushed to scale asap & then brought back to track. It all seems shady!

with the raceciever and accomidating officials there should have been some communication post checkers to relay the scale information to the winner, Agreed pretty crappy practice for the Allstar officiating , how does the second place fiinisher even celebrate that kind of victory not his fault either ?

The All Star Rule Book states that the Top 3 must go to the scales at the conclusion of the event. Everyone else went to the scales. Balog stopped on the front stretch. He was sitting there for a long time...and he had to be wondering "Why am I the only car that stopped on the front stretch?" Even people from the stands were yelling "Go to the scales", but he sat there. Then he got back in the car and his crew member pushed the car around in front of the victory stage. Obviously both were clueless about the rule and that's a damn shame. However, ignorance of a sanctioning body's rule book is no excuse. Why no official came out to tell him to go to the scales is beyond me...other than they were probably busy weighing the other 2 cars and wondering where Balog went and didn't know he was sitting on the front stretch. I thought it sucked for him because he had a great night, but he made a critical error, broke the rules, and got DQ'd. Not sure how that is anyone's fault but his own? Read the rule book if you are going to compete with another series other than the one you are used to running with. Pay attention in the driver's meeting. Listen on your raceceiver, because I'm sure I've heard Butch over the radio at every event I worked at tell the Top 3 to go to the scales as a reminder (not sure if this happened last night or not - I didn't have a radio). I still think someone should have told him to get to the scales, but instead about 20 people stood around victory lane as clueless as Balog was and waited for Butch to come out to the front stretch to find him...and then eventually DQ'd him after the interview.

Balog actually finished 3rd in the feature unless you're just throwing a "hypothetical" out there.

Doesn't the rule book state that everyone has to have a radio, also? It was obvious that not all of the drivers did in one of the heats when the lineup had to be shuffled because of a bad start. Other drivers in that heat had to tell one of the other drivers to move up to the poll because he obviously didn't have a radio.

The inconsistencies with this series are glaring.

right, I wasnt present obviously, but, poor judgement on this particular matter will keep my "eyes & ears" open if I choose to compete in this series when they are (begging) for cars to show up to local races in our area, just food for thought ...

Janet said it best. The WoO and All-Stars weigh the top finishers before the postrace interviews. What is the point of doing an interview first if you don't know for sure that the car made weight?! IRA needs to change there rules and weigh the top finishers before interviewing them.
