Holt Summit, Missouri's Gary Scott

The car in this shot was built by Jon Singer of Tipton, Mo. Gary sometimes had a habit of being "wrongside up" you might say. Singer lowered the engine especially for Scott.

I believe Gary won his only WoO feature in this car at Boone, Ia in '81(?).

This photo was taken after a torrid battle between the 2 friends. Ronald Laney won this one, I believe, maybe his first win over John Bankston.

The loss of these 2 great racers within 6 months of each other from the Houston area was devastating to sprint car racing in that area... and really around the nation.

There are so many racers who could be listed here - but these are the most recent and closest for me.

No photos yet of Jesse Hockett?

I started to list names and decided not to. Too depressing - and yet they should all be remembered - you're right. There is a web site of fallen drivers.

Carol, how are ya' darling?  Thanks for bringing up 'our' buddy JB, that was a common denominator in our meeting at the Chili Bowl I remember.  I miss John at the start of every race season because Kim and I would always see him in Florida and it was special.  Never saw the man NOT smiling, spent time with him in Beaumont TX on one of my trips to nowhere.  I swear he had the biggest shop I was ever in, although he was in the construction business and it was used for both.  Hell, he had a bunch of his previous cars in there, what a nice tour that was.  One of the all-time great Ladies man also, man he was good at that game too, lol.  Missing the both of you, all the best, Take It Easy...

The owner of the BOSS series in Ohio has taken to researching and finding grave markers of fallen racers. He will place a couple checkered flags at the marker. Most have been from the very early years of auto racing such as the 20's-30's. I applaud his efforts.

Rich Volger @ Hagerstown

I was a huge fan of Rich Volger, he was something else, could drive anything.  I believe he had just qualified his NASCAR car, then flew himself up to run a dirt race and was killed that night.  Read this in Economaki or Speed Bill's book.

Lawlessness and liberalism equals Hell. NY City,
Detroit, Seattle, Chicago, Minnepolis, etc. We saw it.
Burning hundreds of buildings, a thousand assaults and
dozens of murders. Getting worser and worser.

A racer's racer for sure. Died at Salem live on ESPN. I knew it wasn't good when the replay showed his helmet rolling down the track.

You must not have been that big of a fan Madsen, otherwise you'd know how to spell his last name!   ;-)

That's one of the things about this forum I hate.  The assholes who kritasize other peples gramer and speling.  Some peple type it in to get it done, who cares about grammar and spelling when in a hurry.  Assholes like drislck williey who must spend half the day looking for other people's errors.  OK, if you don't have a BD in English or you don't have enuf time to check your spelling and grammar before hitting the POST button you can't post here.

PS Ya didn't notice that SLINK51 spelled it wrong also.  He must not have been much of a fan,  asshole.  See the pictue of Vogler's sprinter and his name below it.

Yes you are correct. I was at that race.
