Do you remember the outlaw restart?  Not sure why they went away from that, I'd like to see that come back.

Is that where they had a cone at the end of the back stretch so that the cars were at track speed when they took the green?

What's interesting is that there's all this talk about bigger races and higher paying purses and yet no one has paid lip service to keeping costs in line in quite a while. Soon, you'll need that $23,000 prize to help pay for your $100,000 motor.

Bingo. It's like they are saying let the costs run rampant and we will find someone else to pay for it. Keeping costs down should be way more important than increasing purse size. If purse size can be increased some that's good but Larsons comment on having the top tier drivers potentially having 3 million in winnings for the year... I start to raise on eye. Don't make this NASCAR. Don't give me the Kevin and Jordan Swindell sob story of trying to keep a sprint car on the road being so tough while I buy a million dollar home.  And yes I use that example a lot because both statements were posted on their social media within a week or two of each other.

I fear of the days of no more blue collar weekly racer and racetracks/races. This is what dirt racing was built on. Guys that do it for the love of racing.

Chris Madden just said it best after the late model feature tonight. "I don't know why in a professional sport they penalize you for being fast". Refering to redrawing.

Well Chris Madden got to start on Row 1 tonight & finished 3rd! So what is he going to cry about now?

It's probably better to be beat on the track , instead of at the pill draw.

Obviously all you guys that are wanting inversions and starting fastest cars farther back have never been anything other than grandstanders?

I'd say that most of us on Hoseheads believe that Brad Sweet and Kyle Larson read posts on here. This post & thread is aimed directly at them.

Brad- for the betterment of High Limit Racing, and to find out what your fans and potential fans think of your program, set up some sort of official suggestion box. I know, you have a corporate e-mail somewhere that I can send info to where it will sink to the bottom of someone's inbox and never be seen. I'm thinking of something a lot more specific and useful. You could set it up and provide links on racing sites, or work directly with a racing site like Hoseheads.

Here's the plan-
Submitters will be asked to suggest one idea at a time. Expand on that idea all you want, but stick to one subject. Anything that reads like a manifesto won't get read by anybody anyway. Encourage people who have opinions or ideas on a dozen aspects of HL to submit a dozen seperate, specific e-mails. This will alow you to have someone sort all the ideas into like piles. It will make it easier to see trends and to cull out the crazies.
I look forward to seeing soemthing soon.
-Thanks

Maybe we are, and maybe us grandstanders want to see some side by side racing rather than a single file high speed freight train?   Is there something about wanting to see side by side racing you don't understand?

You are on a message board of mostly fans of the sport. And you expect them to shell out 30 plus dollars to see someone win a "Sprnt race" remember these aren't hundred lap marathons without passing a competitor and tell themselves "yeah that was great I'm so glad the fast guy won" ? Does that sound like a fun night to you?

Engine costs running rampant has been the battle cry since I started going to the racetrack in the 80's......................racing engines have always cost too much, and yet, everyone keeps buying them.  I'm sure that was the big complaint in the 60's and 70's too.

Winning a $25,000 race with a $100,000 motor is no different than me watching someone in 1990 win a $2000 race with a $20,000 motor.  The math didn't, doesn't, and never will pencil out if you're trying to pay your bills using prize money.  I'll leave the financials up to the race teams and sanctioning bodies.  I save my money for tickets and concessions and then go home.

Exactly!   Back in the early 90s I quit going to WoO races altogether.   By then 410 racing in North Texas had pretty much died out, so the WoO car count at Devils Bowl had dwindled down to the low 20s.   Then put Sammy on the pole and watch him never be challenged and lap up to 7th or 8th place and what did you see during the night?   You saw a dominating performance, but what you didn't see was any racing.   Low car counts and little or no competition and it wasn't worth the $30 they were charging by then.

What I would like to see in all of dirt track racing is someone to consider the fans.  All major league sports are trying to figure out how to speed up there show to keep the fans involved.  It seems to me that every year we see more and more farming done after the races have started, delaying the program for what seems like hours at some tracks.  The High Limit series did a good job of keeping the shows running so that the fans had time for driver engagment after the races.  The other series  and a lot of tracks do not seem to care about that.  I have a 10 year old daughter that has been attending races since she was 4 days old.  She falls asleep more now than when she was 3 because the length of the program has gotten out of hand  Devils Bowl was a packed house if 500 of those where new fans do they want to attend another race at a different facility after being there for 7 or 8 hours?  The Idea of taking another break in the action to sell more food and beer is not a good idea either run a good timely show with good racing and attendance will increase in my opion.

Sorry Willie i was trying reply to the grandstanders post. Giving the fans what they want  passing and racing is what brings them back telling them what they should want is what drives them away.

That all works out fine, as long as every team can afford a $100,000 engine. At some point that mindset is going to cause problems if traveling organizations don't have locals to fill out the field. If the trend keeps going to it's logical end, how many people are going to pay $60 to watch 11 cars with $125,000 motors race for $50,000 to win a very predictable race?

If we're honest about it, big time sprint car racing is limited sprint car racing already and has been for a long time. Want to race a 1200# car with a 6x6 wing and 500 cubic inch motor? Nope. You can't. Higher costs cut down the number of racers able to compete. I bet you could name tracks in your area that no longer run sprint cars. That's why. I'm not saying make the cars run a 6-banger with a carb, but it would be worth the effort to get engine builders together and ask their opinions.

I live in Illinois.  If I want to see people be punished for working for something, and witness those not as fortunate be given a head start, I can just go outside.  When I go to a sprint car race, I want to see the guys that earned the spot, get the spot.  If you want to catch up, work hard to catch up.  Period.

This is the exact same argument going right now with my hometown's high school football team.  They want them to play up a class or 2 because they are sick of them dominating.  It's a close boundary school, with no scholarships or recruits.  Yet, because they are good, everyone wants them to be handcuffed.  How about everyone else coming up to their level vs. making them come down?  JMO

I can't stand this argument for the sake of entertainment.

If watching a driver set fast time win his heat dash then feature without passing a single car for position is entertaining to you that's great but it isn't for everyone period.

Exactly. It's called racing. If these complainers raced, and worked hard to have a fast car, they'd see it differently.

I'm complaining and I raced a micro 20+ years ago, not sure if my opinion is as qualified as yours? I'm sure you never appreciated the central PA handicapped races at all or maybe you did until you found a team to hang with BUT the fans want to see cars pass each other or else we could all go to watch racing on the salt flats. Remember all sports are entertainment for the paying masses.

Apparently, and this grandstander wasn't watching sprint car racing at one point and actually saw better racing for less money watching other classes...
