It's a good way to spread the wealth. No way does Goodno lead laps and get 3rd in a normal WoO format. But the cream always rises, 9 of the top 13 in points are WoO, plus Buddy, Gio and 2 All Stars.

Tell me you don't like racing without telling me you don't like racing... sounds like they should just have 5 sets of time trials, then you could save that Vaseline for yourself!

I really like this format. Make them do it the Smith - Barney way - The old fashion way - you have to earn it!!
Let's go Sprint Car Racing!
Knoxville - Best Track In the USA!
Eldora - 2nd Best Track in the USA!

The Funny Cars only get as close as Brainerd, Minnesota, if you don't like passing. Sheldon said it all in a wing nation interview. Something to the effect of not liking the format and having to race. Wait a minute, isn't having to race the object of this sport? Inverted fields were common back in the day. Starting the fastest cars in front gives us single file Heats and predictable winners. Being from this area I was thrilled to see Goodno start on the pole and finish on the podium. That wouldn't happen under the WoO format.

Your hilarious. If you dont like to scroll twitter by all means nobody else should either. If you like to wait a few hours for the highlights I cant understand why everybody doesnt wait that long for highlights. Thing is I don't want to stay up until 2 AM for a video when the WoO posts the same video on twitter a few hours sooner than youtube. I get the video and text comments and even a few shorter video of heats and qualifying that you dont get on youtube. So I actually get lot more info a lot sooner and I wake up pleasant enough I don't have to insult people to feel valuable. I like my system. Give it a try. It changed my life and it might change yours too.

Ya'll realize that what we are doing here is akin to my wife texting a friend while they both watch a reality show? Arguing about what we saw on TV.

This format kind of proves that the WoO format ensures the WoO get good feature starting positions. When the WoO were in, what, mount Rushmore area last year it year befor, they had 20 or 22 cars. Understandable when non woo teams are almost certain to start at the back. I wonder how many Huset regulars would have went to Black Hils????? Knowjng a 15th over all time trial could get them on the podium. Might get more non woo teams to show up without having to offer them $1000 to start. Humbling for the Premuim members but do fans want their locals on the podium?
Even though I may not know you, I
care what most of you think!

You have to be good everytime you're on the track with the WoO format. Drop the ball and you will be buried. I do like the ASCoC a little better. The fast qualifier being in the dash by just transfering cut drivers a little slack but nothing crazy.
The whole points thing is pretty sketchy given the track. Put in a middle of the pack qualifying effort in flight A and you have a pretty decent chance of a top finish in the heat and ok to good feature starting spot. Nothing aginst the track because they have to make the track heavy as hell earlier or their blowing out RR 10 laps into the feature or track prepping every other time cars are hitting the track.

A lot of things that people consider part of Sprint Car racing today came about through the Outlaws. Fastest starting in front with little to no inverting, the work area, open and closed reds come to mind. I don't ever remember stopping Features to fix cars in the 60's. They were Sprint Car races, if a driver wrecked or got a flat they pulled off and we're done for the night. The Outlaws make the argument that they tear up equipment when they have to pass local cars. Meanwhile some of the local guys are done for the weekend if they blow up or wreck. The economic disparity takes a lot of the fun out of the original concept of the WoO. Come to town and beat the locals using 10x the budget to do it takes a lot of that out of it. Today's Outlaws are more like the Navy Blue Angels that put on an exhibition of speed than what I think of as the Sprint Car racing that attracted me to the sport as a kid.
Drivers learned by helping out at the neighborhood repair shop. They talked their way into rides after starting out by cutting up and welding up old coupes and racing them. Someone who owned a Sprinter would see them and give them a shot. Today we've got karts and Micros as a feeder system and 13-15 year olds causing an uproar when insurance makes them wait until theyre 16. It's a different racing world and I think that is one of the reasons I like Husets. One veteran driver put it this way "Knoxville will make you a hero, Husets will make you a race car driver".

You're mixing metaphors, or something there.
The reason they don't get high car counts at Black Hills Speedway is because the closest 410 sprint car is 360 miles away. Figure about 750 miles of driving and the crew taking off 2 days of work to run against teams with 10 times the budget. It doesn't take an economics professor to figure out why teams don't make the haul.

Track seems very narrow. Look at the videos from Skagit, similar size but much wider and way better racing.

Good grief. King of the hill, rework, lcs, rework. Let the freaking track develop and change. Damn this rework garbage is out of control. Sure hope we don't see this crap at knoxville in August.

Give them some credit. The reworking is probably needed for this race. Husets racing surface can be good, bad, or all degrees in between. The last thing they want is for their big shebang to be tire-eating failure.

Knoxville is a way way different track and surface than Huset's.
If you're gonna run that many cars and that many laps at Huset's you're either going to work on the track or see a really crappy race. So take your pick on a good race or not reworking the track, you're not likely to get both with that many cars there running WoO tires.

This gate is taking this track's equipment eating reputation to a whole new level.
Sppeddirt's complaint is too many reworks, not that they're reworking. It did seem like overkill, but I don't think most people would have expected it to stay one lane for at least half the race.

Took half the race to get track back to a racy state and it finally allowed passing. Hauds move was awesome balls out win it or wear it.

Haud was 6th with 4 to go. That will be talked about for many years to come. Incredible.
