Just received a phone call yesterday from the Motel I had 5 nights reserved in January for the CHILI BOWL. They said they had to CANCEL my reservation because they signed a "contract" with the city. I asked if it was because of the COVID thing and they needed the bed space? The person couldn't disclose that information but I did the addition in the palm of my hand and came up with the answer.

I called another MOTEL and made a new reservation and ask if they were working on "contracts" with the city and she assured me they were not and wouldn't be. When she ask me what I was coming to Tulsa for and when I mentioned the CHILI BOWL (if they still have it), she told me to make sure I bring her some CHILI when I get there, yikes!!!

I don't care if they cancel it this year or not but I'd think they should be making an announcement by the end of this month. Lot of logistics involved all the way around.

Those who are close to the Tulsa center keep an eye out for the trucks of dirt moving in mid dec.

If they start doing that then something will be racing and only thing left to wonder is will people be allowed in building.

ATTENTION TICKET HOLDERS: 2021 Chili Bowl Nationals Will Run With Attendance Restrictions

TULSA, Okla. (November 5, 2020) As we approach the 2021 Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals, presented by General Tire, we continue to navigate the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Although we enjoy seeing the fans packed around the Tulsa Expo Raceway, for one of the greatest motorsports events in the world, we want to ensure our fans are as safe as possible.

Currently, our Grandstands have been placed at a 25% capacity. With these restrictions, if you do not wish to attend the 2021 Chili Bowl Nationals, we request notification by November 20, 2020.

After notification is received, you will not be charged and the tickets will be reserved for renewal prior to the 2022 event. If you have paid by check or cash and do not choose to attend, we will process a refund.

Requests to defer your seats until the 2022 event must be made before 5pm, Friday, November 20, 2020. To contact our office, please call (918) 838-3777, Monday – Friday, 9am and 5pm (CST

Well this "newsflash" leaves a lot of questions unanswered. It only answers the people that choose NOT to attend. Just for numbers sake, let say the Grandstand holds 4000 people and only 500 people call to say "not coming but hold my tickets for next year". That means 2500 people that want to attend can't, because they need to get down to 25% capacity (1000 people). I'm assuming that it will do the same Knoxville did and announce a "first come, first serve" general admission deal by a certain date?

The press release doesn't mention any "PIT" alottment. Will they limit the number of entries? Can they have a 6 day show if they limit the entries by 25 to 50% of usual? Whether they do or don't, will they limit the number of people you can have per car (owner / driver / pit crew) or no fans in pits? I'm sure a lot more information will come out soon and they'll have a better idea of their arrangements once they know how many people want to skip this year after the 20th. I just thought they could have given a little more information on the press release to make it a little easier decision for the current ticket holders hanging in limbo.

I respect all those people that choose NOT to go and those that choose to go. I myself, I don't care if I miss the trip this year or not but leaning toward attending if I can get in. I sit in the front row and wear a mask and faceshield anyway. My wife would prefer I stay home with her because I've been spending too much time social distancing in a tree stand the last 2 months already.

From what I read in the Facebook comments so take that for what is worth because it was not from the official page.

So how are they choosing the 25%

seniority if not enough people opt out.

Straight from Terry Mattox who works in the office and is the flagman

Interesting note regarding the Tulsa Shootout from the official page in the comments.

We can't reply to everyone's comments and questions. We appreciate everyone's understanding of the situation we are in. If any updates are needed, we will post. As far as the Tulsa Shootout, it will run without restrictions.

Stick a fork in it. The cities will be shut down again by then. They will then postpone it so they keep advanced ticket sales money until 2022.

I agree.  If this event were in my area, it would not be held.  And if it were, few would go.  All of the hospitals in my rural region just put out a plea for help.  There will be people laying in the hallways at these places very soon and they have now used every last ventilator according to the nurse who lives down my street.  Hopefully this is our big spike that we missed back with the first wave went through and it will peak soon.  Cities are going to fare far worst than our little county of 44,000.

Although I still think it has been overblown especially for rural areas I would not attend an indoor event. I did go to races here in Pa. all summer. I am three weeks past the last  one so I guess racing dd not kill me.

I went to races all year as well.  I would still be going to outdoor races, even with this huge uptick in cases in my area.  I agree though, I would not be going to an indoor event right now.  As far as being overblown in rural areas, I wouldn't say its been overblown-----I would say way too many rules and regulations were put in place before anything had happened there.  Now in rural America, at least my neck of the woods in Northern Illinois and throughout Wisconsin, is starting to see a pretty big spike in cases.  Gonna be a long winter----well, at least couple of months anyways.  Hopefully it settles down by the end of the year.

I've been wondering about that... Maybe cause the races are outdoors & everyone is facing the track instead of facing each other, it wan't so bad?

They are having the big gun show there inside at the expo next weekend and no restrictions from what I have heard. There will be 2-3x as many people there as the Chili Bowl.

Remember when online radar changed everything?

I have been online at home since 1996 so I have seen all of the changes.  I'm one of a dwindling number of Hosers who has been coming to the main site and forum since day one.  I don't miss the 14.4 dial up modems.

FloSports, a leading sports streaming and original content network, today announced the acquisition of streaming rights for the Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals presented by General Tire in a groundbreaking 10-year deal to broadcast the blockbuster indoor Midget racing event to racing fans worldwide. One of the country’s biggest and most popular motorsports events, the Chili Bowl Nationals celebrates its 35th annual running between Jan. 11-16, 2021. The deal amplifies the motorsports offering on FloSports and brings over 40 additional racing events to its FloRacing platform. As part of the pact to stream the Chili Bowl Nationals, FloSports will also exclusively broadcast the massive Lucas Oil Tulsa Shootout, the largest event for micro-sprint racing in the country, and will co-stream the 2021 Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by MAVTV Motorsports Network with the RacinBoys Broadcasting Network which will remain involved in the streaming production for the series. One of the industry’s fastest growing dedicated motorsports platforms, FloSports continues to consolidate the best of grassroots dirt track racing onto one digital destination. FloRacing has experienced a 450% growth in subscribers since January 2020, demonstrating the viability of this category to the future of motorsports streaming.

The six-night event annually draws thousands of spectators and over 300 Midget entrants from around the world, with American drivers from a variety of racing disciplines joining competitors from Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the United Kingdom. Midget division regulars face off with racers from the ranks of the World of Outlaws, All-Star Circuit of Champions, USAC, Dirt Late Models, NASCAR, and NHRA drag racing, stamping the Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals as the most eclectic motorsports event of the season. Last year’s run was topped by NASCAR and open-wheel superstar, Kyle Larson, while Oklahoma’s Christopher Bell, another NASCAR standout with roots in open-wheel racing, captured the race the previous three years.

Contested on a quarter-mile dirt track built inside the River Spirit Expo Center in Tulsa, this year’s Chili Bowl Nationals will only allow 25% grandstand capacity due to Covid-19 restrictions, but every lap of the week’s preliminary action from Mon., Jan. 11 through Sat., Jan. 16 — heat races, qualifying features, the Race of Champions and Saturday’s “alphabet soup” qualifiers — will be streamed live to FloRacing subscribers. The Chili Bowl Nationals C-, B- and A-mains on Saturday night, Jan. 16, will continue to air live on the MAVTV Motorsports Network and LucasOilRacing.tv.

“FloSports is excited about the impact this partnership will have on the world of grassroots racing,” said FloRacing General Manager, Michael Rigsby. "It further cements our serious position in motorsports, allowing us to build upon the Chili Bowl tradition that was started 35 years ago. (Chili Bowl promoter) Emmett Hahn and Beverly Edwards along with their families, Scott Traylor (RacinBoys president and CEO), RacinBoys and the entire Lucas Oil team have been fantastic partners in making this deal happen. It’s officially Tulsa time for FloSports and we’re eager to get to work.”

“I’ve been impressed with the quality of the FloRacing broadcasts and we’re looking forward to what they can do for the Chili Bowl,” said event co-founder, Emmett Hahn. “I believe this new relationship is the best step forward for us, our fans and our partners. Longtime fans will be able to watch the Chili Bowl as well as the Tulsa Shootout and the American Sprint Car Series on an incredible platform. I personally really enjoy having the ability to see so many different series under one digital subscription with FloRacing. Plus, their team produces so much great content. A Chili Bowl and FloRacing partnership is going to work very well for everyone.”

Along with the Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals presented by General Tire, FloSports will also stream the massive Lucas Oil Tulsa Shootout — the largest event for micro-sprint racing in the world with well over 1,000 entries scheduled to compete from Dec. 30, 2020 through Jan. 2, 2021. FloRacing and RacinBoys will co-stream the 2021 Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by MAVTV Motorsports Network. RacinBoys will continue to consult on the production of the Lucas Oil Tulsa Shootout and the Chili Bowl Nationals.

For the record - I have received a check - refund - from the Chili Bowl for my tickets and the check included interest.  I was amazed - and pleasantly surprised.

With interest, dang that was thoughtful. Hopefully that news will settle some people down.

It's been awefully quiet...Am I missing something? How are they going to navigate COVID?

I thought by now we would have a entry list started on the chili bowl website. With updates every few days.

I am not going but plan on watching on Floracing.  I was watching the national news tonight and they said that Tulsa ICU's are maxed out.  what is the latest down there, are they moving dirt in r is it too early for that.

I plan on getting the vaccine when it becomes available but not the one partially funded by Dolly Parton because I'm afraid it might make my racing shirts too tight in the chest.  J/K, bless her for her her good deed.
