Haven't been to the new Jackson config. From what I have seen it has to be farmed often to even have a chance of not laying rubber. Am I wrong to say I think overall Husets is more racey than Jackson? Just my opinion. I'm not saying Jackson is bad but more so Husets is usually so good. Hope for success for both tracks!

Some of my honest questions have not been well received but this is not about my experiences and is great news for South Dakota fans.  At five hours to Husets and six hours to Knoxville my solution in the past was to drive the extra hour but I have been to Husets a few times.  My wife's aunt's brother in law was killed in a 360 wreck there and her late brother built engines mostly for the Stock Car class out of Flandreau.  We stayed at her mother's house and went to the Memorial race.  It's a neat little track and I'm glad this was finally resolved so they can build things back to the previous level.

Speaking of truthful statements I'll make a prediction.  It's no secret that before it was sold to the loan shark they were struggling with fields and I remember seeing counts in the mid teens in the results.  I predict that based on what they did with Jackson they will not only bring it back but will make it better than it was in it's first time around as Husets.  This team has an impressive track record over at Jackson so I would expect nothing less than excellence.  I'll be watching their progress on the hdtv in the cat cave.

As a lurker here thatbused to post a helluva lot more than I did nearly many years ago I must say I too have always enjoyed your insight into things.

I must also ask if the late engine builder you refer to is Mr Jimmy Schmidt?  That guy could definitely turn the wrenches. I was fortunate to have many interactions with him when I did newspaper work for the Madison Daily Leader for Lake county Speedway. He was very good friends with a phenomenal friend of mine who did a lot of head work for him. In that rate, he became involved in a Hot arod tractor project me an my son did a couple years ago.  Old SCHOOL cool he was.

Careful guys, you are starting to sound like the bitching posse fans......and I guess I'm considered one of them.  Glad to hear Husets is a go, I'd love to visit that place sometime.

I am so happy Husets is back.  I used to live walking distance to track until I moved further away in Brandon...now I am biking distance, lol.  This is so awesome. Great track and venue.  Small town vibe, but close enough to Sioux Falls for hotels and other options. WoO and now the ASCOC is booked.  Good finish to a summer that has disappointed with cancellations of the Nationals and Kings Royal.  I pray the track prep is getting started ASAP.  The track is usually really good for the big shows.

The Husets website is under construction it appears.  I wish Tod would put out a volunteer page as I, and I am sure many others, would be happy to lend a hand to clean up or help out in any way needed to get the place "showy" for Aug 2nd which is right around the corner.

I know this is none of my business so I wont officially ask, but I sure would like to know what the purchase price was. Not so much to know what Mr Quiring paid but more to know what chuck finally agreed to.

Even though I may not know you, I

Yes, Jimmy Schmidt was her brother and her name is Barb but she moved to Minnesota out of school and has been up here for decades.  Her brother-in-law that drove 360's was Steve Haman.

I live up in Forest Lake, Minnesota so it's about five hours to Sioux Falls.  I went to the Sioux Falls Swap meet one time and had a blast during a post swap meet bar visit but that's probably fifteen years ago.  Also was at the Memorial race the night Roger Rager flipped in front of the grandstand and talked about flipping a Sprint Car being like getting pushed out of the back of a pickup in a 55 gallon drum at 70 mph.

I'm not Mr. Quiring and I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, but I feel I can give an honest answer to that question. Here goes... The short answer is that it's none of our business. The long answer is that it sold for the amount that both the buyer and seller were willing to agree on. That number was probably less than Chuck wished it was, and probably more than Tod wished it was.

Chuck had to get the highest selling price possible, in order to lose the least amount of investment. Tod had to figure out what price he had to buy it for and still make it worth his investment. When those two numbers met somewhere in the middle, a sale was made. But the truth is, we will never know because it's really not our business.

I'd propose something to deal with this question, which will be thrown out there forever. Let's call it Rule 25d.

Rule 25d:
Whenever asked about the selling price, both the seller, the buyer, and their representitives should simply offer some wild, off-the cuff number, like say- $22 million, or $350,000, with no further explantion. They should continue to do this using different figures until people catch on to the game and quit asking.

True. But that's only for the property. It won't tell you how much was paid for the "business", equipment, etc.

I think you are one of the better individuals and your questions are always valid. I think your prediction is a good one too as this new team will probably make Husets prosper more than it ever has. Saw that their first show is a $20,000 to win Al Star show on Aug 2nd & they have the Outlaws there I believe Labor Day Weekend. I already want to attend the Jackson Nationals next year after seeing the past 3years and most likely will want to attend Husets as well in the future. I would Imagine their will be some big shows (multiple day shows) in the future once the scheduling books get opened up for next year or the year after.

Sounds like they will combine some events at Husets with the Jackson Nationals next year. Maybe a WoO race or big non-sanctioned race the weekend prior to Jackson. I think they wanted a 4 day Jackson Nationals in 2020 but with COVID it went back to a 3 day show.

Theoretically you could maybe do a Sunday WoO show at Husets, then maybe a USAC show Monday, Tuesday day off then Wed USAC at Jackson which would lead to the 3 day WoO show for the Jackson Nationals.

Given the tracks are only 80 miles apart, lots of possibilities.

That was a great interview.  I think every answer he gave is the same one that I wanted to hear from him.    He covers a lot of topics and his plans sound great to me.        That is a beautiful facility and I can't wait for there to be some racing there.

Tod mentioned that in the interview that Nick posted.   Tod said "it was an asset purchase so we used it as a real estate purchase"          My interpretation is that Tod bought the real estate and all of the other business assets were included in that real estate purchase.     If that is the case the purchase price would be public information.   I don't really care how much Chuck got but I know other folks here want to know.

Fairmont could be to Jackson and Husets what Oscaloosa is to the Nationals.  Another half mile track just a few miles east of Jackson would make a full week out of it.

I think the smaller fields were because of a few different factors. First off, I don't think the Rubins really had another source of income so the track had to be self sustaining. I don't think they had the means or the will to increase payouts. Second, the track can be tough on equipment, it's kind of narrow and has concrete walls all around it. It's not very forgiving if you make a mistake. Third, it's all rumors but I have heard that the Rubins pissed off a lot of drivers and owners over the years. Many quit coming to the track. Fourth, they lost the plot on track prep. It used to be that Husets would widen out and have two grooves and racing was awesome. Somewhere along the line they had to run the beer grader after the heat races every race. If they didn't it was just single file, follow the leader.

I don't say any of this to bad mouth the Rubins. I have met Steve a handful of times and he seems like a really nice guy. I think they did their best with the track and they had a really good run for a long time. It was time for a change and it's too bad Chuck got his hands on it. Now that Tod owns it I think it will return to it's glory days. Can't wait to get back out there.

To your third point you are very correct. In the late to mid nineties I was there a ton, either in the stands, in The pits on a street stock crew or reporting for a nearby local newspaper, closer to Lake County Speedway. Doing a pre season story on some of the local racers, I interviewed a local many time 360 Champion at Husets, along with Lake County Speedway, Rock Rapids, IA and others. For a period the Rubins had an interest in LCS and I believe if I remember correctly Rapids as well He stated he was basically he wasn't chasing points that year, instead running where he had the chance to make the most dollars. He added, "I can tell you one things for certain, I won't be running a race where the F**king Rubins are in charge, and you can put that in Your f**king paper exactly word for word as I said it if you want to!" I didn't ask what the reasoning was, but he obviously was adamant. I must state that he probably felt sorta comfortable to say what he felt as I had hung out at his shop since I was a kid and, in Fact had had my Senior pictures a few years earlier taken with his ride.
