Iowa and the surrounding states are overrun by modified (IMCA type) and stock car fans and drivers.  Knoxville is like a Sprint Car island in the middle of the state.

This is true. Though I feel IMCA is slipping a bit at the moment. Car counts are down and tracks are stopping their weekly shows. Maybe it will make sprint cars stronger in Iowa in the long run. Besides Knoxville, 360 Sprint Invader Series, and a few 305 IMCA racesaver weekly tracks..... there not much for sprints in Iowa. I do think 305 racesavers at Burlington and other tracks are gaining momentum which could be good for sprints. They just need to keep their payouts as an entry level class in order to hopefully still funnel up competition to 360 and 410 series.

The non-winng Sprints with the limited motors are doing really well up here in Minnesota and Western Wisconsin.  Cedar Lake is having a two day special and I guess there are other clubs besides UMSS involved.  They draw well for weekly shows so it could develop into an annual event.

This probably WONT be a very popular comment.... But how often has Posse won outside of PA? Seems all they know are their "home" tracks. I agree that Posse is good, but they arent outlaws!

11 WOO shows in PA this year.

3 WOO shows in IA this year.  Plus four if you want to count the Nationals, but that gets weird considering not all teams race all 4 nights.

Seems to me the PA folks don't really need to leave their porch, they have 11 shots a year to win a WOO show.  IA, not so much.

That said, who ever said Iowa has a great class of sprint car drivers anyway?  They don't, they have a few, but also have a mecca known as the Knoxville Nationals.

A mecca is something people pilgrimage to, something very special, like no other place in the world (well, for sprint cars) Knoxville IA.  Trolling:  Also, people in IA have most of their teeth, so that must be worth something right?

Lighten up Langhorne, just meant to be a light hearted comment. I know where Fred Rahmer lives, it ain’t Philly. When was the last time   Winged 410 sprints ran at Hatfield, East Windsor, Vineland, or Langhorne for that matter?

I was responding to a poster comparing the state population of Penna to that of Iowa. The point I was trying to make is, Posse country is generally considered an area limited to several counties in south central Pa, not the entire state. So the comparison, IMO, was apples to oranges and germaine to the discussion.

As to your last insulting question, I live in Mechanicsburg and have been attending races for over 50 years supporting local tracks primarily. I’ve been to Eldora, Knoxville, and head south to Volusia every February with my son.

Now who needs to lighten up?  I know where Fred lives now and it ain't Philly, but that's not what I said. I said he grew up in a suburb, very close to Philly,  and he raced for many years for the Rio Bros. (among others) and worked in their shop in Germantown, very much IN PHILLY.

The original topic was related to states, i.e Iowa and Pa among others.  You turned Pa into a subset of counties that is quite often referred to as Pennsyltucky. Sorry if the term insults you, but I didn't make it up.  Perhaps I should have used an emoji.  Smile

And if you've been going to races for fifty years you must be pretty close to me in age, and it is all the more surprising you don't know the history of the Philly area tracks, drivers, promoters etc.  If I am not mistaken this year is the 40th anniversary of Reading closing?!

I had a whole list of other names that connect Philly and sprint car racing, but it sounds like you don't want to play.  So I'll just throw one at you on the way out, Jack Gunn.

Enjoy the races, this Philly ex-pat does.  Smile

Saw that an Iowa driver thread had 45 comments I immediately knew that the POSSE got involved.

"Popular"? That depends on who reads it...

But NOT original!

My bad. I thought this was just a general interest / trivia thing, not an invintation to join in another worthless pissing contest.

From the WoO website, here are the totals of WoO final night feature wins per home state of the driver. To be honest, I only went through the top 20 (Top 21 actually, as #20 is a tie). This doesn't take into account a bunch of guys with just a handful of wins or less. Nor does it enter into the other pissing match about whether someone like Hodnett is, or is not Posse, blah, blah, blah.

Top 12 states:
Indiana 839
Tennessee 370
North Dakota 249
Oklahoma 129
Ohio 126
Pennsylvania 125
California 108
South Dakota 107
Missouri 90
Minnesota 59
Connecticut 39

As you can see, Pennsylvania is solidly in the top 6. A more interesting data point (at least based op the top 21) is that North Dakota, South Dakota, Missouri, Minnesota and Connecticut totals are for one driver!

Anyway, it's the internet and folks will need to point out where everything I've written is wrong.

Just think if they would have counted the prelims as A features....like they do today.  Indiana's total would be way over 1,000.00....just saying!

Let's go Sprint Car Racing!

Knoxville - Best Track In the USA!
Eldora - 2nd Best Track in the USA!
