I remember seeing him in the 89 when he first started. He showed up in that fancy rig and could barely make a lap without wrecking! Crazy to think how far he has come.

I too remember seeing him in the 89 car and thinking the same thing.  Only saw him a couple of times, (as well as once in the 89 car with a #6 wing on it) but I remember thinking "is this some kid wasting someone else's money for a few years?"

Wow has that thought process changed in my mind.  One of my favorite drivers to watch.

Watertown is definitely not Urban, its a town with very little minorities

Waterbury is in fact Urban  where his Dad grew up and where his business is

no dirt racing or sprint cars to be found in CT. thats why he traveled to PA every weekend to race!

Yep, not many blue collar jobs left, but plenty of segregation

Industry..thats how our family ended up in Ct. my late father was an engineeer at Scovill, plant moved to Scotland in the late 70s (early 80s?), laid everybody off....

I think what happened was they hired a big name crew chief and got the car set up right. I forget who that guy was, but once they did that, he was bad fast.

Yep, Gravel keeps getting better but I think 15 wins is a stretch....

Still a stretch revjimk?  Smile   He was at five wins when I predicted 15 for next year.  He is now at 9 and didn't even get going this year until two or three months into the season.  I say 15 is very, very likely.  We will see.

How many races left?

Schatz seems to damn near "run the table" every summer after Knoxville....

16 races left. You think he'll win 6 of them? Still kind of a stretch to me...

We'll see...

OK , he's won 9 out of 60 so far. At that pace he should win 2 or 3 more

Maybe he's getting hot, we''ll see...

Schuchart (SP?) is really improving fast now also. 2nd & 5th, ahead of Schatz both races!

I was talking about next year, yes.  It will be fun to see.  My prediction was based on how hot he got after the first 1/3 of the season.  He has most of those wins in the last two months.  I think he can easily get to 12 wins yet this year.  15 is nothing more than a prediction but it seems likely if he keeps up the pace he has had the last 2 months.  (I know that pace is tough to keep for an entire WOO season too.)

That was while he was subbing for an injured Bill Rose. He kickstarted his true touring career with that gig and hasnt looked back.

He does it mostly to get under people's skin. Best thing to do is ignore it and it goes away. Well actually you will just get more posts about it since there are many people on here that post things to get a rise out of people. Just consider the source. I always liked Gravel when he was with the All Stars full time and hoped that drivers like him, Sheldon Haudenschild, Holtgraver, Cap Henry, Philo etc would have enough funding and opportunity to help grow sprint car racing. I consider that National Open that he won one of the best races in history.

So, if what you seen was true and Tony joins the WoO chase,  what engines will he run?  As co-owner of a prominate NASCAR team that is switching to FORDS next year, will Ford Motor Co require him to run fords exclussivly?  If not there seems to be a conflict of interest issue here.

Tony is a master at working deals, he was driving for Gibb's in a toyota I think his final year with them and his USAC non wing team was sponsored by Chevy!!! As well as his Outlaw team.

Fantastic.  I see he can master 1 track. So proud of you your a one hit wonder..

and btw I have no problems with Stevie it's just your ignorance. What are you trying to say

Stevie can kick ass at one track.   Gravel has 9 Wins from all ACROSS the country this year in a new ride. Not 9 wins at the same track

in the same ride
