Taking the JR Memorial to the Big Game.

With what can only be expressed as a nitro injected boost to the 14th Annual Jerry Richert Memorial race this coming Saturday the 6th of September at Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond Wi. not only is the list of ever growing sprint car stars including the conformation of intention from drivers including Knoxville track champion  Ian Madsen, Craig Dollansky, Terry McCarl, Davey Heskins and Dusty Zomer  but the race will now pay a massive $7,000 to win. With the announcement of a  payout  boost to the  payout from Big Game Tree Stands, not only will it pay $7000 to win but $4000 for second $2800 for third and $1000 for tenth with $500 to start the A main. This makes the JR Memorial one of the best paying single day races in the Midwest.

With all the amazing support from WoodCo, Bev-lor Utitlies,  DMI, Gillund Enterprises, Big G Man, GRP Motorsports, Lars and Linda Larsen, Kody Kohlman, Rice Creek Builders, Northwoods Home Improvement, Protofab, Reed’s Appliance, Rush City Bakery, Silver Shears, Winnik Supply, Zuecher Well Drilling, DNR Construction, Donnahue Designs, Ready Landscaping, Mastell Brothers, Superior Septic Services, Trevor Boyd, Frattalone Companies these friendshave helped make the Jerry Richert Memorial the Midwest’s premier sprint car race outside of the Knoxville Nationals. The additional boost from Mr Tod Quiring through his company Big Game Tree Stands has only added to the excitement of the event and to have one of our sports biggest supporters wanting to join the list of partners is an honor in itself for the Richert family in honoring Hall of Famer Jerry Richert.

“Having Big Game Tree Stands offer to support this race not only as a team but also as a sponsor is huge, but the fact that Mr. Quiring believes that this is a great event on the sprint car calendar with all that he is involved in is a unbelievable for an event honoring a true legend of our sport, our Dad Jerry Richert”

When you start looking at the list of drivers from Knoxville regulars, local hit and miss teams added to all the IRA regular teams the event has never had a list of stars like this before. Added to several drivers pulling double duty with the UMSS 360 sprint car, this is a not to be missed sprint car event.

On behalf of the Richert Family we wish to thank all our partners in making the Jerry Richert Memorial one of sprintcar racings premier races. With good weather on hand and a great list of drivers we now just need to pack the stands.

What a payout! This is going to be an awesome show! There will be a great field of 410 sprints and to top it off the 360s as the support class. This is my favorite race of the year to race in and to watch and with this increased pay it is even better yet!

To top it off, fans can watch the UMSS 360 sprints on Friday at St. Croix Falls, WI for the Kouba Memorial that pays $2,400 to win and $300 to start. This weekend will be a fantastic weekend of sprint car racing in the Minneapolis area!

Since this is on ongoing thread, maybe someone can answer a question I have had for a long long long time.

How do you pronounce Jerry Richerts last name?

I have heard it like RIKE-ert

or RICH-ert

Which is it?

I can clarify that for you... I think my entire childhood it was pronounced RIKE-ert  but to answer your question it is pronounced Rich-ert. I think RIKE-ert was the german pronuncitaion. Please keep thread going so we can pack the house at Cedar Lake on Saturday night

So it wasn't my imagination that the pronunciation changed since I first heard the name in 1960.  wink

Great to see this event going from strength to strength. One of my main complaints here in Australia is that our sport doesn't honor our stars of the past enough. This event (and many others in the States) do this.Good luck for a top nights racing,a bumper crowd and that one of our greatest exports, Brooke Tatnell can bring home the bacon.

Really shaping up to be an awesome show at Cedar Lake. Both Balog and Reinke are hot from the IRA side so should be a great show down for the IRA vs Knoxville regulars. Hope to see a few outsiders come up to the IRA show at Superior on Friday as I know Heskin usually comes every year.

Wonder how many guys might do double duty at Cedar Lake. Gotta love an all open wheel show.

For double duty I would say brooke tatnell, davey heskin, john sernett, and maybe a few others as for coming to superior I would say travelers like heskin, whitney, glennon, and one or two more

The preliminary forecast for next Friday and Saturday calls for blue skies with a high of 70 and a low of 50.  It doesn't look like there's any chance of the weather discouraging any fans or competitors from making the trip.  It should be an epic weekend of racing.  wink

dont worry about the forcast. i mean come on. not even the weatherman knows whats gonna happen till that day. ha ha. i shoulda been a weatherman. where else can you be wrong 50% of the time and keep you're job besides a politician?

We've been getting dumped on the past two days with flash floods just north of us in Forest Lake.  Tornado warnings up north heading towards the Brainerd area as I type this on Thursday morning.  I'm glad that mess will be out of the way because we have lost too many races to weather this season.

1978 I think.East West Race this was the winning team.

Left to right. Wild Bill Dollansky, Larry Wood, Jerry Richert sr, Bob Geldner, and John Stevenson.

How come last year it only took 3 1/2 hours to get there.  This year it says it will take 4 1/2.  Why? Is there detours or construction?

Saw Jerry Richert run the last race of his long career at the Sioux Falls fairgrounds track in 1985 I believe. The old "Cheaters Day" show. Wow ,did he ever go for a ride that day! Probably set an altitude record in turn 1. Never got back in a Sprinter again.
