Surpised we haven't heard yet about any form of ruling here. If this blows over with no resopnse from WOO I'll be disappointed. As soon as he got out of the car and went after Madsen I was immediately reminded of what happened to that kid in NY that was hit and killed by Stewart. I've got no opinion on blaming anyone for that accident in particular, but allowing anyone to get out of the car when cars are still moving is a horrible precedent.

We were in the infield.  Sammy found one of Madsen's crew guys sitting on a 4 wheeler and proceeded give him the business for a good 5 mins.  He was ranting and raving, pointing back and forth at the guy then at Madsen on the track.  It was actually pretty comical.  Everyone in that end of the infield was getting a good chuckle out of it.  I felt sorry for the poor crew guy.  He didn't appear to be responding at all.  He was just sitting there calmly taking it all in.  Sammy eventually wore down and stomped off but not before looking back and firing off a final rant.  I don't now if he took it up with Madsen after the race or not.  Typical Sammy.

It was a good set up for a play on words, I had to run with it.

Better he say it to a crew chief guy, Madsen is as tough as anyone in a sprint car, ask anyone in Australia.  Dad owned a junkyard and Kerry is the typical junk yard dog, afraid of nothin' and nobody.  On top of that he is a helluva nice guy but Sammy will be my fav 'till they through dirt on me.....

Exactly what I was thinking.  Barking up Madsen's tree could have not-so-favorable outcomes.  Lol

Sammy was turned backward right in the middle of the track. The front end was broke and laying on the ground. He got out to look at the damage. Madsen had to drive pretty close to go by Sammy. Sammy was never more than 6-8 feet from his car so I don't see how they could claim he pursued him. He did take a couple steps toward him but like I said never got more than 6- feet from his car

So does "Easy E" stand for "Easy Excuse"?

I'm a Sammy fan, but lets face it, he was wrong to get out of the car

He got out of the car to look at  the damage. The front end was laying on the track. Usually if a car has to be towed the driver will get out. He never really left his car when yelling at Madsen. Not taking up for him. Not a Sammy fan or hater either one. In fact, before the races I drove up to the fence on my 4 wheeler in 1 & 2 to look at the track and Sammy was the the only one there. I smiled and nodded and said" how's  it going" and he didn't even acknowledge my existance and stared thru me like I was just air. I thought what a d***. But he did nothing to  be punished for by woo

He was 100% wrong to get out of the car. He had no excuse. I don't understand how anyone can debate that.

DirtVision covered the race, got to wait for them to achive the race then speed through to the A-main, I'm a paying member, but you can watch the archives for free if you sign up...

Also I see that Sammy is running the Mansfield 100k...

How about this?

Have every driver sign a waiver at the beginning of the night.  Sign a section that says "you are responsible for yourself if you exit your car and enter the racing surface"

End of story.  If drivers don't give a shit about their own well being, why the hell should I?  We need to stop taking responsibility for everyone else's well being.  He's a grown ass man, he can do what is best for him.

I wanted to respond to multiple people here but don't know how.  I picked your response because it is the most logical.  This makes the most sense but didn't Tony Stewart try to get his lawsuit thrown out on these grounds?  And they determined the waiver was not valid in the state of New York?  Not sure how that works but I 100% agree with you.  To your last line (which I agree with completely), the reason would be greedy parents.

Second of all, I believe it's a rule to not get out of your car but I've never heard, what is the punishment?  Is there a punishment?  Or just a rule?

I'm not sure what the penalty should be.  But in my opinion to keep the car and driver out of the big money races would make sense.  I think that gets everyone's attention but I'm not sure how you would enforce that.  For instance can the World of Outlaws say that they are not allowed to race in the Knoxville Nationals since it's not a World of Outlaws event?  It may seem unfair to keep the car out of those races but if a certain driver was responsible for keeping that car out of the big races of the year, I'm thinking he would have a pretty hard time getting another ride.

To the guy defending him.  This needs to be nipped in the but immediately.  Much like a penalty in any other sport, you can't choose to penalize someone based on what you believe his intent is.  If the rule is not to get out of the car unless all cars are stopped on the track, it doesn't matter if he's checking the damage on the car or not.  He gets out he gets penalized, whatever that penalty might be.

Like most things, I'm sure this rule needs to be revisited and written more clear and concise.  For example, "if you are involved in a wreck you are not allowed to remove your helmet or belts UNTIL the safety crew arrives at your car.  If the car is on fire or presents another immediate danger by staying in the car, exit the car and find the most direct line off the track.  Also while cars are moving on the track you are not allowed to show any form of commuinication to any other driver (like hand gestures showing your displeasure with that person).

I watched the race on Dirtvision and as soon as Sammy stopped he started to unbuckle while the cars were still coming by him at a high rate of speed and I was shocked when he got out and was standing on the track and yes he approaced Madsen's car to flip him off.

I was watching in the middle of 3&4 and this all happened coming out of 4. I didn't really see anything wrong with any of it. I guess I'm just more laid back than some people. Im a racer. If i crash with any kind of contact, I will immediatey get out of the car after cars have slowed down and it' safe. You have to determine if your car can be fixed quickly so you can get back in the race or if you want to try. I also want to see how my car is hooked up. The tow trucks job is to get you off the track quickly. I have had to tell them the way they have it hooked up is going to tear more stuff up and they are going to have to hook it different. Theres alot of things there going on the average fan doesnt realize. Not defending swindell at all would have same opinion no matter who it was. Just cant believe people thought it was so dramatic thats all

Most tracks I've been to tell the drivers to stay in the car (barring a fire of course) until the safety people tell them it's OK to get out. Usually the safety crew helps the driver out, or at least is right next to him in case help is needed.

At most any race I've been to, if the driver gets out of the car, he's done. The exception has been when they haul the car back into the pits for some repairs and the driver gets back in and fires up to restart last.

To be safe, on any yellow, while there are people on the track the cars should be put-putting around the area in question.

Not sure what race you were watching?   Sammy had to get out of the way of one car before heading up even further to the top of the track to confront Madsen.

Sammy looked at his front end, then walked towards Madsen's car & confronted him. You must have missed that part, but it was clear to see on Dirtvision.

After the Ward accident, just about ever sprint car track & racing orgainization announced that drivers will stay in their car during ontrack incidents or there would be penalties and/or fines.  We don't necessarily need to hear about any punishment to Sammy on this board, but I do hope that WOO deal with this and the competitors are informed.

And then there was the time at the Short Track Nationals when Sammy spun himself out - trying to get by a car on a dry slick track.  The other car didn't do anything wrong - and he never hit Sammy nor did Sammy hit him.  But when they restarted Sammy's car you could tell he was after the other car.  When he got up to the pace car and realized that he missed that other car he did a 180 and headed back down the track the wrong way.   I was proud that the I-30 officials had the balls to tell Sammy to get off of the track.

Sammy has pulled so many temper trantums I'm amazed that he is still allowed to race anywhere.   With that said - he is one of the best drivers ever and one of the best to set up his race car or build a car.  It's a shame that a man with so much talent has such a temper.

Once I was chatting with Sammy's Mom & Dad.  I told them that the first time I ever saw Sammy race was when he was about 16 or 17, I guess.  It was at West Memphis (Riverside) and Sammy and Sam (his Dad) were running first and second - and Sammy took them both out.  Daddy Sam said "that doesn't narrow it down any.".   Sammy has been at it all of his racing career.

Sorry MSPN
