What I am going to post is not a slam to any other person who has responded to  or commented on my origional post.

What part of  "That's what the DRIVERS want " is so hard to understand? The DRIVERS are the one's who LIKE the track smooth and slick. The track crew is giving the drivers what they want. If anybody WHO IS SITTING IN THE STANDS  has beef with the track conditions, they need  to buy a pit pass and express your displeasure to the them. Not the promoter or the track crew. I would be willing to bet most drivers and owners will tell you to "Go pound sand", because you are not the one spending the money on or the one wheeling a sprint car.

We will have to agree to disagree on this one.  You can have it smooth with more water put down into the surface...not just sprinkled on top.....get it into the surface.  They are so convinced you can't have a good race with it that way....well I have seen more good races with it wetter than I have with it being the way it was Saturday night....sprint cars that is.   You just will not have it hard, yawning when I type this, black and dry! That is ok I will only be there for one more show...maybe, it is the night before we leave for vacation in September.  I don't like that type of racing and never will.  Sprint cars are made for speed not a slip and slide!

You guys better watch the Outlaws. For a variety of reasons that is what drivers want today. Strawser26 you keep saying if they would put more water into the surface. It's not they, it;s the driver's, You do realize when the outlaws come in the track will be dry and slick right. Go talk to a driver, and i betcha he is going to take that dry slick surface everytime over wet. My days are behind me, but i'll tell you this, when the surface would break up because of the wet conditions in the corner you were just waiting for a hole to develope. Then most would start scrambling to shoot low or high, and when you have 2 cars racing, you had better choose the right line. How many times have you heard, Yea i thought he was going hi so i drove under him and he came down or the opposite. When you get your right front chopped off going into a corner and your FUN ride starts and have a headache that lasts for 3 days maybe then you'll understand why. I forgot, the fans pay 20.00 bucks for a darn ticket and i wanna see wrecks. You keep that track wet and you'll see them. Slick takes a lot more skill, throttle control, riding the brake, set up. It's why the outlaws are who they are. These guys race on those types of surface nightly. If you want to beat them you better be on that same type of surface, if not your chances are not very good.

I have been to Lincoln, Williamsgrove, Selinsgrove, and Port this year.   The racing at the other tracks are just as good if not better than at Port.  I don't have a favorite driver anymore!   Some drivers I don't have much time for.  LD is not one of them.  I can respect him.  If you think Port had a cushion in 3 & 4 saturday night you are sadly mistaken.  That was not a cushion.  With how the track was Saturday, Port reminds me of a slip and slide or NAPCAR racing!  Although napcar might be more exciting right now at least they are supposed to be racing on pavement!  I am talking about the sprints only here.

I couldn't agree with you more.  I to go to the other tracks.  I have always gone to the Port even though Lincoln and the Grove is much closer to me because my favorite dirver raced there more decades.  But since he retired the love affair with the port went away as well.  Will definately be going to Lincoln in 2 weeks instead of Ports Dream Race because on knowing what the track will be like.  It will be a Lance track and that makes me want to puke.  So instead of getting sick and puking, I will be going to Lincoln and watch Montieth ride the cushion.

I know I don't want to see wrecks.  But other tracks in PA can get it wetter and not have a lot of wrecks or ruts in the track.  Why can't Port?  I know they are buffaloed into thinking it can only be good if it is hard, black and dry.

Port Royal is the only area track where a driver came from way back to take the win this year (Lucas) and FWIW I love the place AND the team of RESPECTABLE GUYS that run the place. I have been at Port when they were turning 15.2-15.3 second laps - scary enter speeds in T3...it was a spectacle to witness the speed but drivers and teams were not crazy about that!

Now...the track over near the river should look into a total rework of the entire facility...worst sight lines...dust rolling during wheel packing...popsting pictures of the go crart track with better clay than the big half mile doesn't help promote the 410 races of attrition they are marketing.

Lincoln 1845 ft/.35 mile T1=118MPH
Eldora 2287 ft/.43mile T3=135MPH
Port 2716 ft/.51 mile T3=TBD
Grove 2792 ft/.53 mile T3=135MPH
Selinsgrove 2847 ft/.54 mile T1=136MPH

Exactly. Just take a look at all the WoO highlight videos from across the country and you'll see a bunch of really exciting races on tracks with adequate moisture and a cushion that wasn't hammered down to nothing by push trucks.

..and I'll bet you they are all bullrings. Port has the best racing of any 1/2 mile track in the area and it's exactly because of how they prep the track.

Not sure what track you were at but every fast car was running the cushion in 3-4, even Lance. The only fast car on the bottom of 3-4 was Heimbach. The track 2 weeks ago was nearly identical except the cushion in 1-2 was a little better and Lucas won from 16th passing Lance in the proccess. Judging by the size of the crowds, I'd say most fans are happy with the racing product at Port Royal.

I'll agree with you on one point; if the track is already good there's no reason to touch it. Port sometimes likes to waste time I guess so the microphone guy can walk through the stands and talk to people plus t-shirt launches/giveaways and stuff like that. Most people enjoy that kinda thing I suppose but I'd rather get on with the show. I actually hate it when tracks piss around, but Saturday was a well run show with the LM main over at 10:30. I went home a happy camper.

It seems as though the people here who criticize the track from last Saturday are akin to Roger Ebert when he used to review movies-- really any movie critic for that matter.  He could never just sit and enjoy a movie because he had to critique, analyze, and look for further connections within the film he was watching.  When I go to race, I go with my friends and just crack a few beers and watch the show.  There are nights when any track could miss the prep and it turns into a crappy race, but last Saturday wasn't one of those races.  The people who were sitting with me agreed it was good race.  Good... not great.  We didn't walk out saying "Holy shit! That was the damndest race I've ever seen up here!  That was awesome!"  We were talking about how smooth Lance's car looked every time it was on the track. We talked about how the guys were fighting like dogs for positions 4 through 9. We debated on whether or not the 69k would have won if he drew the 8 pill instead of 4.

I would bet that you guys go to the races to have a good time too, and I'm not knocking you guys personally, but we just look at things differently I guess. I don't get caught up in the whole "Gee, the racing was pretty good, but dammit if they didn't prep the track the way I like it, therefore that race and track was bad."  Some of you do that and if that's what you want to do, hey, do it.  Different strokes for different folks I guess.

By the way, I also echo Holden's sentiments about the crowds.  I know it was a speedweek show and all, but it was a nice sized house yet again at Port.  They must be doing something right because the crowds are there and the drivers are usually talking about you can race anywhere on the track.

You, and the rest of the people can have it.  I don't like asphalt racing.  Clay is not supposed to have no grip or be that black that early in the night.  And no there was not a cushion in 3 and 4 Saturday night.

If you are going to the Port tomorrow night, be prepaired to see a packed down, slick no cushion track as Lance announced they will be there.  Steve and his team will make sure it is a Lance track!  So I am headed to the fabulas Lincoln speedway and watch The Edge pound a cushion.

Dude the track is gonna be that way whether or not Lance is there. They prep it like that all the time. I'm not a fan of it either but you really need to stop with the favoritism toward Lance bullshit you're peddling. Port management treats everyone the same. I don't care for their track prep but they're still good people who are doing good things. If you think for one second that they'll prep the track to favor any one driver, you're delusional. I too will be going to Lincoln instead of Port because I also want to see the edge pounding a cushion instead of what we've been seeing at Port but that doesn't mean you gotta make it personal. That's just stupid.

I go to the races to enjoy time with my friends as well. I realize that every race isn't going to be great and I realize that every track isn't going to be perfect. I just don't care for what Port does to their surface. I get what you're saying and I echo your sentiments but for me personally, if the racing isn't going to be exciting, I can save myself a couple hours of driving and 30 dollars and just hang out with my buddies at home around a campfire or something. Like you said though, everyone is different and I hold no ill will whatsoever towards those who see things differently than I do. Like said to Holden, it's nice to be able to have a discussion like this without people being assholes to one another. Wherever you go Saturday, I hope you enjoy it. We'll be at Lincoln hoping for a big cushion and some wheelies. Either way, we're lucky we live in an area where we can have a couple of very good options on a Saturday night.

I agree,  with how Ports surface is there isn't any excitment.  When I was there last week the sprint racing was dull and kinda boring.

Fixxx, you'd have been happy tonight, there was a cushion and the guys were rippin it pretty good. Lance charged to the lead early on the bottom and then even he was up top. Wolfe made a late charge to 3rd, Hodnett went 8th to 2nd, Bowser looked good up top and Heimbach went 19th to 5th with a mixture of grooves.

How was Lincoln? I saw Forsythe won.

Guess what? I had a last minute change of heart and went to Port. Like I said, I love the place and I always will. Glad I did. That was bad ass man! What a great surface. That's what I've been saying all along. The track is great every week if they'd just leave the cushion alone and they did just that. Damn glad I changed my mind.
