Hey CarWash,
Give us some details on the Super you posted here. Who wheeled it,etc?Like the old CAE wheels on all four corners. Who needs air cleaners,,. This car looks like it could have been quite possibly RIGHT wheel drive from the tire configuration! Looks waaayyy kewl!

The number 7 was raced by the late Marshall Sargent. team wright-one may be able to give you some more info on him. Marshall's career ended a little before I began going to the races.
The car is now owned by former San Jose/Baylands Super Modified/Spring Car driver Tom Henry.
The photos were taken earlier this year at the Pombo/Sargent Classic at the Tulare Thunderbowl.
I think my favorite part of the car is the front nerf that could easily double as a cow catcher.

I was there at Devils Bowl when they debuted this team. There was also a no.2 car driven by Oklahomas Andy Hillenburg. At one point during the feature Andy nearly took Sammy out into the trees! This was a cool weekend, the 1987 Coors Light Gambler of Steve Kinser had been bought and was passing through going up to Ohio. The Bubby Jones Nance-Bromme owned red sprinter had sprouted a wing and was also passing through. I think McSpadden started on the front row in the Luna Car. This was also the last race weekend for the NCRA Champ Dirt cars. Ewells wing collapsed and Shane Carson went on to win with Ewell close behind.

Bonose34,
The TMC car was always one of the sharpest detailed cars to ever hit the track. I bet there was more $$ spent on polish/wax, on that car ,than most teams had for a years running budget! Even right down to the green astroturf they rolled out of the trailer for the car to sit on!,, When this car was rolled out of the trailer you could tell "They ment business"!,,It always looked even "racier" when it was an old Maxwell car, louvered hood, side panels, etc. I guess I'm showing my age,,,. A race car doesn't even look like a race car, unless it's got some chrome, along with goldleaf numbers/trim, hangin off of it,IMO. Seems chrome along with goldleaf ,etc are non-exsistant in todays "KideeKar" paint schemes. Times do change,ay?

Couldn't agree more. The best I have ever seen.
My #2 is Kevin Huntley in the ConnWest Trucking, Vandemark&Wahlie, gold and red #1. Mid 90's winning with the ASCoC. Awesome car. I liked it when it went to all Red as well. If anyone has a picture that would be great.

Hey Ascot48, thanks for the photos of the #27 car! As nice as the photos are one really needs to see this car in person to appreciate it and I'll bet it would look even better without the cage!

Hey, 50 -
I'll never forget the first time I saw the King O' Lawn car. It was my first visit to Knoxville for the Nationals and the first time I had ever seen a California car. Ronnie Rea was the driver, and he was one of the first that I had ever seen back a sprint car into a corner without lifting! The car was beautiful - it even had a chrome mud flap located behind the r/f wheel to minimize the mud being kicked back on the car/driver.
Since it was my first Nationals(1975!), I'll never forget the experience. And I'll never forget that beautiful car!
Thanks for jogging the memory!
Chuck.....

Wanted to start a thread for everyone to post the prettiest Sprint Car or Supermodified they ever seen scratch dirt from their part of the country. This would be one of mine. Gene Gennetten /KC, MO., at Tampa. Chrome rollcage, bumbers, nerfs, Halibrand Mags on all four corners, silver/goldleaf numbers/trim,doublestep diamonds on both rears!,rib fronts, full length headers, exposed injectors. Now this looks like a race car!
Al Consoli makes every race car look a million bucks
BTW: NO negative comments allowed in this thread,,,
Steve G. If you see this Hope you are doing well.

no problem. thank ken wagner for the photos. i remember going to ascot when i was way younger and seeing the car. my dad took me to the shop one time and i saw it in person there too. looking back it seemed every cali car was a show car back then. its very rare that you see a car these days with as much attention paid to detail.

My personal top 5 would have to be:
Bubby Jones Gas Chem CRA sprint car from the 80's
The Agajainian 98 (Curtis?) roadster Parnelli Jones drove
Nick Rescino #3 San Jose Super modified from the late 80's - Red w/chrome wing
Weikert's #29 during the years Wolfgang drove it
The Twister Super Modified from AZ

Ascot48,
The Western Mag Special was sweet lookin. That Stanton car with the louvered side panels, and upholstery on it better than any chair in my house!,,, Complete with doublestep diamonds on both rears and just enough chrome on it to distinguish it as a "west coast" car,,. Ahhh,,,, those were the days. Looks like Jimmy Boyd in it,that day, pressin the GO button. Thanks for the sweet pic.

another lost art is the paint. those painters really made these cars look so beautiful. everything you see today is a car wrap or a sticker..

Not the clearest picture, but here's one from Tampa/FL State Fair.Jerry Blundy. How many Old Timers on this board? This was one sweet lookin Trevis Craft car.
Chrome bumpers/nerfs, weightjackers both sides, upholstrey better than any passenger car, goldleaf numbering, notice the "roof" on it, arm restraints weren't thought of yet,,,, full length headers,,,sweet soundin!, and only whussies runs air cleaners,, Hailibrand Mags all four corners, double step diamonds rear, rib fronts. Craftsmanship par excellance'. Who needs decals plastered from stem to stern to be racey lookin?,,

Halibrands on the front, Weld Speedways on the rear. Those Welds were a genius design for the times. One design for the center(cast aluminum or magnesium) riveted into a steel rimshell. Any width, or offset you wanted. Considerably cheaper and easier to fix , they only out wieghed a Halibrand by a pound maybe two. The fronts were the smooth dish wheels(magnesium) found on many USAC cars of the '50s. It was common to turn them around for a different offset.
