I just can not beleive that something providing an opportunity create jobs and increase revenues in Iowa is so ill received here. Those people went to the track and spent money on "stuff" that they would not have ordinarilly. And it was a motorsports event to say the least. You guys should be rejoicing, finding out ways to help it grow, and promoting it to everyone you know. Unless of course you are all filthy rich and don't need or want the economic value that comes from it.

The Knoxville Nationals gets 100,000 people a day for all four days or is it 100,000 people over four days? And yes the media will barely sniff at it either way because it is not Nascar. IRL does not get much more coverage than NHRA. Both of which have name brand corporate sponsorship for their series. What does sprint car racing have?

Sprint Car racing is a fringe sport. In some cases I am happy that it is that way. Do we really want another NASCAR/IRL? If you do then things will have to change drastically. The first being right here on the message board. An outsider looking in sees half of the stuff spewed here and takes it as fact. After that they will want nothing to do with the sport. If you really don't beleive it happens you are fooling yourself. I have talked to potential sponsors that have no idea what sprint car racing is. They do a little research, hoseheads comes up, they read the board and say no thanks. It has happened to me twice this year alone.

Of my soapbox now.

Danica was whining about the one guy who made a "racing move" all day...Franchitti (or whatever...you know, Ashley Judd's husband).

I am disgusted by the "talking heads" on the local TV channels. It's bad enough they fall all over themselves to get to DP, Milka or Ashley but when the call that race the "greatest motorsport event in the state's history", they are just plain stupid. Keith Murphy, sports director for WHO-TV (channel 13) flat out said the Knoxville Nationals won't get any real coverage from them because "it's not that big a deal". Yea, nineteen cars and eight finishers. High dollar crybabies. That's what needs to be covered. Besides, Ashley was there, Danica whined and Milka (she IS hot..).proved again she needs to use one of her four masters degrees for something other than racing. It's also ironic that the third woman in the field finished the race and ran solid all day. Who? Sarah Fisher. Not a word all week about her because she doesn't have the sex appeal of the others but she again proved to be the best female racer of the group.

I'm sorry, I like Iowa Speedway. They did a great job of promotion. I'm just sick of supposed seasoned media journalists falling for all the hype without even a small dose of reality and knowledge of motorsports history.

Not to mention, Sarah Fisher also learned how to drive in what kind of car? Hmmmmmmm....... ( off the subject, but her sponsor at that time , Mead, was also a sponsor of Rusty's RF tire changer when he raced a real car in his off time. )

Fenders are like vacuums... they both suck.

Amen John I have felt all day like I was the only one who thought this -----it seemed very myopic to be fawning all over this race If this was Indy I think the crowd would have rioted

The media in Des Moines (paper, T.V. and radio) seem to think that 4 days of a nearly 100,000 fans (that 99% BUY their tickets) is barely worth a mention around the 2nd week of August every year. The numbers "spectators" until this last weekend that the other I.S. events have reported are so far fetched it was almost comical. I too hope that the I.S. is a sucess but I am afraid with out some real NAPCAR events, outdoor concerts and Friday night drag racing with a no name event every 3 or 4 weeks (easy boys I am not putting the IRL race in that category) the track may be headed for oblivion in a few years. My boss always told me you only get one chance to make a good first impression and mother nature did throw I.S. a curve Sunday but many of those disgruntled fans will only remember the bad taste of the miles of jammed roads/parking fiasco. I did watch most of the T.V. coverage and have always thought Patrick was a media/pr hype and she is. The flinch from side to side on the restart crash shows she could use some more time at English Creek before "moving up." And of course those nasty boys all "jumped the restart" so it wasn't her fault.

not only did danica zig zag back and forth on that restart crash, she stayed on the gas and ran herself into the rabbit hole between the two cars in front of her. that crash could have been prevented if she would have known the most important thing that a driver needs to know....when to lift.

Danica can do her "wiggle" for me anytime she wants!

I have a fist full of dollars for a wiggle like hers!
