And people wonder why engines are as expensive as they are. Perfect example by 79, went with cheapy pistons and is going to spend $220 to upgrade to a better piston so he can avoid blowing an engine up. Pistons aren't the only parts in the engine that can be upgraded to a better piece, i.e. crank, rods, oil pans, oil pumps, injectors, gear dives, etc..... and in the end you have the price tag that we have now a days.

The $220.00 pistons are exactly the same piston that is being run in the motor now. Unfortuantely not everyone happens to be in a position to be able to purchase $500.+++ pistons. For most of us racing is far to expensive to really be involved with.
I chose the KB piston because it is offered by Speeday Motors as a low dollar way of building an engine. And it has lasted 31 shows. On the down side, lower budget parts are going to fail. But last I looked, great big dollar engines explode as well. So what the answer may be, who knows.
All I know is that the lack of effort to drive down prices is exactly why just about every major form of racing has gone to cookie cutter cars. And those that haven't gone that way are floundering!
Yes, it is a viscious circle!
