Normally that's what you get around here. I also like the winged races, just not as many around here. Bloomington is still a 2 1/2 hr drive for me. I miss the winged races at Jacksonville, much closer for me.

There was talk in the Benton pits of payout issues, reduced A main starting pay, upset drivers and post dated checks but I don't know. Anything is possible and it my have just been talk.

Anyhow no MASS show for me. I can't drive 5 1/2 hrs to Bloomington for a MASS show. Being an Indiana show they should fill the field with area cars. Car support and interest in general for MASS our way is very weak. I don't have any MASS shows marked on my calendar. Some of the cars running earlier in the year seem to have pulled out. We'll be at Farmington for their regular show plus they also have a specail 600 multi show(I think it's $1000 to win POWRI show)

Dirt in my beer, bud, remember that sight I told you about,it has all you need to know about how it played out at Benton. We was fooled into thinking it was a All-Star show, they paid a MASS purse, but the adds that Webb put on TV and radio said 5000 to win All-Star show,I'm sure you heard them.

I have been attending "The race track at Benton, Mo." ever since it opened back in the early 90's and that track has always been a bad track. Its the dirt....that greasy, grey, sloppy Southeast Missouri gumbo. Its not like any other dirt Ive ever seen. Ask crews and drivers who've raced there....it wont come off your car even with with mud-off or WD40. The dirt just creates ruts and gets rough. I have rarely seen a dusty track down there..I have seen it slick off but NEVER dusty. If they would just find some different dirt to truck in there I think it would be an ideal track to see a good race on. That track has hosted all kind of big races....The World of Outlaws back in the 90's, the All-Stars, several big local races. It just sucks where the track and facility is located. There is no fan base down in that area for dirt track racing basically because there are 2 or 3 other tracks in about a 40 mile radius. Malden Speedway is only a hop, skip and a jump away...same way with Poplar Bluff Speedway(now closed) and Memphis is only about 2 hours away. Its just in a terrible location and has never had a real good promoter.

There is a reasonable fan base in the Benton area and plenty of cars for Friday night racing. They had a great crowd for the All Star race so the people in the area are there and hungry for good sprint racing. These people are attending other tracks some place. I see a lot of people from the Cape Girardeau/southern Il area in the stands at Farmington. But the fans are not interested in what the Benton track is selling weekly. And the drivers are not interested to run on that track weekly. The surface has been junk for years. And the track is carring a ton of bad baggage from past years. I gave them several (too many) chances again this year but they could not put a string of quality shows together so I quit going. People know what a good show looks like and they'll find it some where else. There are lots of good tracks/shows in the area. They need to have a sellable product for people to be interested. They can't blame the area fans for not supporting the track.
