i think its safe to say that if you made a long trip for the actual racing at osky - you'd be sorely disappointed - most could stay close to home and see 20-25 cars. but if you are going there to party - well hell you still wont get your moneys worth -------- you could do that closer to home too. in fact you could see 20-25 cars and get inebriated a few dozen times close to home.

no this race is a filler between the 360 nat's and the 410 nat's. the #1 night of the whole 10 - is the saturday show of the 360 nationals. and i'm basing that not just off what i seen -------- but what several folks as well as locals have said.

we made the trip from oklahoma city - just for the 360 nationals - for the 9th year in a row. the 4 days this year were absolutely fantastic each night. we spent about 600 bucks each - and it was prob the best spent 600 bucks EVER. judging by the rise in attendance for the 360 nationals this year ------ seems folks are finally starting to pull their heads out of their ass. better late than never. now its time to raise the purse for the event that is solidly planting itself as one of the best few sprint car shows in the nation..........

Isn't it ironic that the area that first brought wings to sprint car racing (Indiana) is now a hotbed of wingless racing?

I don't think you'll ever see the Marion County Fairboard bring back wingless sprint car racing in any real sense. Even if there is no statistical proof that wingless racing is more dangerous than winged racing, the PERCEPTION that wingless racing is more dangerous is still strongly held by those that would make the decision. Even though it's been over twenty-five years and much has changed in relation to safety in sprint car racing, memories of the Gary Scott crash and the Dawley/Larson crash still remain. That, and the thought that winged 410 sprint car racing is what sells tickets and brings sponsors.

Those who buy the tickets have voiced concerns about the Friday Nationals show and ticket sales for that night have dropped (or at least there are fewer butts in the seats) and the Fairboard has some tough decisions to make regarding that situation. With the desire by the fans to see the "best" out on the track every night in a meaningful situation and special considerations being given to the international event on Friday night (around 500 people here from Australia, maybe more), there's only so much you can do without changing the whole Nationals format around and still give the "have nots" their night in the limelight and a chance to make some money.

Estimated Knoxville attendence last weekend....800 on Thursday, 2000 on Friday, 5000 (Cappy's estimate) on Saturday and less than 1000 on Sunday.

What happens if the 410s don't race last Saturday? Maybe 2500-3000?. Raise the purse for the 360 Nationals? Are you kidding?

Now...if Forrest wants to buy the place....

Didn't like the race, seats not wide enough?? DON'T GO ... (more room for the rest of us) Joey was moving thru the field and had a great chance like Schatz last year to win. Don't forget Saldana hurt his leg like 4 laps before he retired. I can remember Lasoski just missing winning from the back to Jeff Shepherd one year passing him for the "win" just after the finish line. Many teams use Osky as a test and tune session. To us old timers it has and I'd guess will always be like the return of the Friday night Nationals much missed "Mystery Feature" Who knows who you'll see (or not see)

You would have a better chance of playing pixie sticks with your butt cheeks than you would to get Cappy to even listen to a new idea yet alone actually changing. The changes need to happen with the people running the place not the event. Remember how fun Nationals was when the fans matter and not just the corporate money? Let McCarl run the place then you would make things right for the fans and the drivers.

If you don't like it don't come. The only thing that really bothered me was there was a lot of drivers and/or teams that are usually there that didn't show this year.. As for the actual racing it wasn't bad would have been interesting if the leaders would have got more into lap traffic. Darryn would have had his hands full with Tyler and Tim.. It was good to see McTwo bring back the foot race. As for the heat it's august in Iowa if you were expecting it not to be hot and sticky than your crazy.. The stands do suck haven't set up there in years but if I remember correctly when it gets to hot in the covered part there's always the choice to move to the smaller open stands for a little bit of open air... I was kind of surprized at how calm things were in the in field one of the more mild years as far as drunken stupidness...

Always, Chels
