Maybe I'm misunderstanding your post I'm not sure why you assume 'all of the Outlaws were going to use one of their 4 passes' this coming Tuesday at 34 Raceway.

Consider this:

  • 34 Raceway is the 'standard' $23,000 to win show
  • Sweet, Macedo, Gravel, Schatz, Scelzi, Kahne, Schuhart, Haudenschild, Bayston all used their 1st one at Lakeside for a 50k to win show (only Bill Rose, Zearfoss, Allen, McFadden, Gass and Price did not)
  • So that leaves most of the heavy hitters with three passes remaining, not four

Non-WoO shows that need to be factored in:

  • Eldora Million during Kings Royal... they're all running that
  • Lernerville in September is between when the Outlaws are coming from Sharon going to the Grove for the National Open and it's a 50k to win.. gotta think most will hit that

So that leaves really one other freebie:

  • Osky Front Row Challenge was $21k to win last year and they're in the neighborhood - do they skip that?
  • Cappy - do they forego the Nationals tune up?

I'd be surprised to see any WoO back at High Limit until Lernerville, myself.

Outlaws used to allow the FRC and Cappy for all drivers. I'm guessing that would continue and not be one of the four strikes against one but can not confirm that's the case in 2023.

We won't know til we know I suppose, but I would have thought that would have been touted when the free passes were introduced.  "Drivers are allowed to select four races of their choosing, in addition to the traditional Capitani Classic and Front Row Challenge around the Nationals."

My money is on four means four, time will tell.

My interpation per: WOO news, published Dec. 8....

contracted full-time World of Outlaws drivers or teams will now be able to race four non-World of Outlaws nights without restrictions as long as they are outside of 48 hours or a 100-mile radius on either side of a scheduled event.

Capitani Classic...falls into this...

FRC ??? (if racing wed. at Nationals)

Eldora Million will not be allowed

Yea, I think you're right.  I think they'll be able to do both without penalty.

No one wants my opinion but here it is anyhow. Friday won't be all that far from average temps for mid April. Saturday looks rough but move up the start time then. Dirtvision would keep many away and so financially it doesn't make sense. But for die hard s like me it sucks cause I would have been there. I don't understand scheduling the WoO in April in Iowa... horrible idea to me. If it were regular weekly racing I'm guessing they would have just had it so I'm screwed out of a night. Ok that's a lot of rambling but to sum it up don't schedule in April unless your willing to risk the cold. If it's fit you have to bite that bullet for the fans and run in my opinion because you committed to it.

I think the WOO and Knoxville made the right decision. Yes, I'd love to see a sprint car race in April, however I'm not sure how the teams would like running in 30 degree temps, excluding any windchill.

If I remember correctly it was sleeting and snowing on and off most of the morning and into the afternoon, and sprinkled on me in the afternoon to night.

With the WOO schedule change this year, I think Knoxville and the WOO saw an opportunity to host another race, which I applaud for trying.

Average high this time of  year is mid 60s, and we weren't ever going to hit that on Friday or Saturday.

I think you're just grouchy b/c you've been in the field too long.

Why would I assume?  Because it lies smack dab in the middle of Knoxville and Granite City.  4 shows in 8 days.  You could put a $100,000 to win show anywhere in the country on that date, and it wouldn't be worth it for 95% of the teams to travel to the higher paying show, because the majority of them aren't going to win the $100,000.   I'm just thinking from a business perspective again----costs and payouts---silly me.

I don't think Osky or Cappy factor into this since they are not competing events that would draw away from the Knoxville Nationals-----but maybe I'm wrong.

I think the key to this "without restrictions"............meaning, no one has to get permission to do so as long as they are outside of the 48 hours and 100 mile radius.

In the past, drivers/teams just request, in writing, if they want to race an event not normally allowed per their Platinum status.  I'm not sure if this is still an option, or if the WoO simply told drivers "go ahead and race the Cappy and Osky, because it doesn't change the 4-day Nationals at all."  I really don't care how it's being handled, because it's already being handled.  Osky and the Cappy have no negative impact at all on the 4-day attendance of the Nationals, so I would doubt the WoO would ever dispute one of their protected drivers from racing in it.

From the High Limit Twitter graphic (hoping it shows above), it looks like only Kahne is opting to run 34 (unless others show up unannounced)

Ran Lakeside also running 34:  Kahne

Ran Lakeside not running 34: Sweet, Macedo, Gravel, Schatz, Scelzi,  Schuhart, Haudenschild, Bayston

Neither HL race yet:  Bill Rose, Zearfoss, Allen, McFadden, Gass and Price

Bobby Allen tweeted out that Jacob had his eyes on some races later in the season that he espically wanted to run.   He said that he was saving his starts for that race.

Somewhat surprised about Kahne unless he already knows that he is going to step out of the car later in the year.

Why would the WOO care abot how the attendance is for the Knoxville Nationals?  It's not a WOO race, it's unsanctioned.

?????  The Outlaws did not travel to Knoxville.  So why would they drive to 34 Raceway when they can just wait for tow money to Granite City?

Incorrect.  It's a WoO sanctioned, show up points only, race.  It was an unsanctioned race for a period of time, but has been a WoO show for the past decade or more.

Sanctioned or not, the attendance isn't gonna drop if the entire outlaw group race the Cappy.

kahne, racing for a living or not I doubt he would pick a couple 23000 to win knowing he won't win in trade for the platinum benefits. If he was that unresponsible with money he wouldn't be wealthy..  maybe he is a unique story but most wealthy people didn't get rich wasting money or destroying income.

Even though I may not know you, I

I thought at one time Platinum members had to be in the top 10 in points to get the tow money and other benefits? Am I off?

You might be right! Also if I have been grouchy lately it would be because this weather can't make up its mind nor can the meteorologists. Lots of decisions to be made and I rarely make the right ones. Usually being in the field vs my day job makes me quite happy and pleasant. Not so much this year.

Saturday was miserable I must admit. Would have went but would have suffered. Friday I was planning on going to some taxi cab races but most of the cancelled too except LCS and Davenport but wouldn't be worth the driving.

Interesting, I knew they went unsanctioned about the time the NST deal happened but I couldn't find any info about whether it was or wasn't today so I assumed it wasn't.  What exactly does that mean?  Does the WOO have any control over the race?  Does Knoxvilled have to pay to have it sanctioned?  I guess I can't figure out what the deal is with it and why either one of them would want it to be sanctioned?

That heavy mist crap sucks!!!  Was at an All star race at Angell Park a few years back.  Nothing in the forecast.  Nothing on the radar.  Heavy mist for 2 hours cancelled the show!!!!

Although I would have rather seen the show as there were some heavy hitters there, we did make it a great night around the campers
