I could be wrong, but I believe I saw an interview quite a few years ago about the winners share and Mr. Hahn said something along the lines of "more cars show up every year, why do I need to raise the purse if the car count keeps going up?". I agree with him, it's the prestige, not the pay. And that's not a direct quote, but pretty sure it's close? Do I think the purse should increase? For sure. But if the car count keeps growing, why should he need to? Just my opinion on the matter. All I know is, camp is all set up at the kings royal and we are ready to enjoy

This is some prime boomer stuff here.

Emmett paraphrased: "More cars show up every year, why do I need to raise the purse if the car count keeps going up?"

Rumblings of two marquee drivers (and maybe others) deciding not to show up

Also Emmett: Why are they boycotting?! Don't they know I don't make that much off this year?!

I bet all the sponsors of the hotshots will be thrilled to learn of their boycott. If it paid 12K to win instead of 10K i'm sure that would allow Kyle to buy his lake house back.

I'm the last to want to defend KL, but I'm sure the last thing he's worried about is sponsorship for his very, very part-time gig. The guy could join the US National Four-Cylinder tour and would have people beating down the door to get on the side of the car.

Larson just out there doing the Lords work this week. Now if he can get Eldora to ditch that reduculously oversized cartoonish crown and get back to the more proportional downsized crown from the 80's & 90's we'd be all set.

Well Larson is effectively "staying home" from the Chili bowl by not racing it. So he's done exactly what you said and you lost respect for him? I'm pretty sure the opinion of 2 of the best dirt racers of the current generation pull some weight, with or without your respect

I thought the guys who continually enter this race who pay thousands of dollars for a week long party would have gotten tired of it long ago. It must be one hell of a party because ain't nobody but Emmett Hahn making a decent ROI on the Chilli Bowl.

Compared to the top off-road desert racing events, the Chilli Bowl seems like kids play.  The Baja 500 pays only 15,000 bucks and the cost to enter exceeds several thousand dollars for each of the 300 competitors. Their machines cost much more than a Chilli car.

As has been mentioned before, don't race if you aren't happy with how it's run.  Race the Chilli Bowl for the love of the sport, bragging rights, a week of socializing, and having something to look forward to over the Winter.  So what if a few top drivers don't show up.  There will be plenty other top tier drivers to watch!

On Twitter, search on Tim McCreadie's page (@mccreadiefans39). Page name is McCreadieNation. Check out his post on this topic.

"Good to see Kyle Larson and others who will not be going to the Chili Bowl next year. The entire week is sold out, the pits are standing room only, streaming money. No reason that race should pay less than $100,000 to win."

McCreadie is a former winner of the CB. However, his "britches" may be too big too.

Hahn is going to lose this fight, one way or the other is my bet.

Chili Bowl is a joke. I know there's not much going on in the dead of winter but I've never understood the hype, or how they get so many cars and fans for such a ridiculously low purse. The racing is always a crashfest, bumper cars on a tiny, tight, lane and 1/2 track. Some teams even spend crazy money to put a carbon fiber car together that would be illegal in any series for this "prestigious" event. Unbelievable.

I thought the drivers' heads had gotten smaller over time......thanks for clarifying!

I'm guessing nothing really changes until Tony Stewart takes the event over in the next few years.  Smoke seems to be ok with giving out money.

The event made the racer,  not the other way around.  Like Some of my best friends said,  Knoxville isn't about the title anymore and all about the $$$ and commerialism.

I don't know how many years ago it was but whenever the neighbors were crying about the noise. There was talk about moving the chili bowl to Houston and the Astrodome I believe the Astrodome is still sitting empty. I don't know if it's in usable condition or not maybe somebody out there could chime in on that. But if they're thinking about starting up something to run against the chili bowl running an outdoors in January in any part of the country is not something that's a good idea. You need to have a place to run it indoors and have enough seating and good enough ventilation which I might say Tulsa does not have. But have a big enough venue with good enough ventilation and enough seating that you could put a decent track to have a decent show and since at that time. And since at that time they were ready to move the chili bowl to Houston. If they had to the Astrodome must have been something they thought would work out you have to wonder if Kyle Larson and other people have maybe looked at the Astrodome as a place to run a midget show or possibly some other large football stadium I personally have to believe the chili bowl is also going to be running into air quality issues very very soon if they haven't been running into it already it's too small of an area these midgets are putting more and more fuel to those motors every year and the carbon monoxide. Is getting to be a big big problem so maybe if Emmett loses a couple hundred cars it wouldn't be a bad thing after all we all know the chili bowl flu isn't really flu it's carbon monoxide poisoning.  Glen Murra

I work for corporation x and they make millions.

I make peanuts and have had enough.

I tell my boss I feel this job should pay a lot better. If this doesn't change I am going to boycott work.

He asks are you covering this boycott with sick time or vacation.

I say neither. It's a boycott.

He says give me your badge and don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.

Been a larson fan since he started running the nationals but this is a bad look for him. Millionaire crying about a race he thinks should pay better. Maybe talk to Hahn in person instead of blast on social media.

Not sure the point you're trying to make at all. Larson isn't an employee, and employee's are well within their right to ask for a higher salary. And if they don't get it, they can quit and that's exactly what KL is doing. Larson certainly isn't pushing for a higher purse for himself, that extra money doesn't mean squat to him, he's trying to use his influence to help the sport grow and better things for all the other racers. The chili bowl purse is absolutely a joke and deserves to be blasted across all of media, and trust me Larson isnt the only driver who feels that way. Hahn is well within his right to not invest into the purse and keep paying them peanuts, just don't be surprised when more and more top names stop going and speak out.

Well, if it's that easy to make a zillion bucks running an indoor midget show, why isn't everyone doing it?

Because you can't just get prestige and tradition like the chili bowl has. That said, just because the chili bowl has that doesn't mean it's purse isn't a joke. There's a street stock race this weekend at Sharon speedway paying 10k to win with $13 admission and I'm supposed to believe the chili bowl can't pay better.

The other dude that replied basically made the point, but it seems Larson knows what he and the other drivers that comprise the CB field are worth, and you in this theoretical don't.

How old is Hahn? Maybe he is ready to retire with his billions and larson could take over the reigns? He could put sweet over track prep and set the payout how he sees fit.
