Track prep was a crap shoot. Track had not been raced on for over a year, some of you keyboard warriors could have done better?

I thought it was a good race.

This argument is so stupid. So your logic is you can never complain about something unless you can fix it or do it better. You go to a restaurant and the food isn't great, better not complain unless you can prepare the food better than the chef. People can complain about having to watch a bunch of guys getting a flat tire without having to have the skills to "do better".

LMFAO it's like they've never drove on dry slick before, I'm sure the track contributed to the downfall for most of the tires but my gosh these are pro drivers blowing them out in a large number.  Outside of that it was an exciting race to see who would survive.

Dry slick doesn't eat up tires like this, rubbered up does. Port Royal and Sharon are dry slick and don't hurt tires at all.

Why on the dish?

So they can go better when Lincoln gets dry-slick.

Races like this seem to happen once every couple of years it seems. Doesn't matter what the series is, tire manufacturer, track, etc. Even throughout each racing year I see random photos posted online showing driver's right rears looking like a drag racing slick versus a sprint car tire. Considering the amount of races across however many race tracks each weekend and each year I am actually surprised it does not happen more often. In the grand scheme of things it actually is not a common occurance but when it does happen the finger pointing starts happening on social media blaming someone (series, track, drivers, tire, water truck guy, town drunk). It's unfortunate and it would really suck if you purchased a ticket and this happened.

Remember Charlotte a couple years ago which was completely riduculous. I remember Sharon Speedway having a similar situation around 2012 I think when all but 2-3 drivers had to change tires and that was when Good Year was the tire company. I think the only thing that can be done is having some sort of contingency plan if it is obvious that a situation like this could happen but then you are at the mercy of human judgement which is not the best and even then someone is going to not be happy.

Last year at Husets one of the shows comes to mind as well.

Who thinks we should go back to having multiple tire companys to choose from? Hoosier is getting like Nascar with Goodyears. Need competition to build a better tire.

It's most definitely past the time for a tire war because we are made to run what ever Hoosier decides to send for us to run. the size of the tires are a complete joke and that makes getting consistent  stagger almost impossible. Rule of thumb is for a RR 4" less than chalk mark but good luck with that I'll get a 109 1/2" chalked tire which should role out at 105 1/2" but it's a crap shoot it may measure 104 1/2" or it may measure 106" so to the real sprint car mechanics out there you know that can be frustrating. And as far as the tire wear issue goes hoosier should be ashamed of themselves for putting such an inferior product out. I know they don't care what we think because we have to run them because they have paid off all the tracks and sanctioning bodies and they are definitely getting there money back because we go through so many tires. I've personally been working on sprints for 38 years and have ran Goodyear,McCreary / American Racer and Hoosier tires and when we could run what ever brand and compound we wanted we had more consistent tire sizes and Better tire wear and was able to get more than one night out of a RR actually with one team we were running American Racer and won 3 features on one RR and two more features on another for a total of 5 features on two RR tires. That's how you save money on a tire bill. So if Hoosier did have some competition they would be forced to make us a better product.

Good stuff, I enjoy the more technical posts. I've heard differing opinions on tire wars. I once heard someone say it created an unsafe environment due to reliability issues, premature failures. I do remember back when there were three tire manufactures and any of those tires could end up in victory lane,  I wonder how many teams doped up their tires in those days? I don't like the idea of Hoosier having a monopoly but it is what it is at this point, its sad that they keep charging more money for what is claimed to be an inferior product. Besides American Racer, are there any other tire companies out there that compete in dirt track racing, is Goodyear still in it?  Open tire rules sound ok to some but it can also increase your tire inventory.

I'm all in favor of "run whatcha brung" too, but as we all know, money talks & i think there's lots of sponsorship $$$ involved....

I would just like to add two things. One sprint car races are not supposed to be about saving your tires. Hundred lap modified races are about saving your tires.  Sprint car races are exactly what the name says... sprints... not marathons. Second the idea of a big time touring series worried about saving money on a tire when they got half million dollar haulers, thousands of dollars in spare parts and motors. Who knows how much in diesel to get there and 6 crew guys in the pits. The whole notion that a $3-400 tire is gonna break them is about the dumbest thing I ever heard in my life.  Now if you're talking 305's I can give you that one.  But one on.
