10,000 t shirts in 3 nights. I'm not disputing it but that's a lot of inventory.

Amazing. How many fans can port royal hold in 1 full grandstand?

Even though I may not know you, I
care what most of you think!

A lot of people buy more than 1 shirt, when Larson Stewart, Kahne roll into town they draw lots of fans and people buy tons of their shirts for themselves and freinds. I've asked friends to get me shirts from some races they attended that I couldn't.  Port Royal can fit a lot of people in the space they have, someone like tenter would probably have realistic numbers for you.

Port Royal can hold around 12,000 in the bleachers, plus the infield and pits. Rough estimate, but the track broke an attendence record that weekend for a late model headlined event and further broke records the same season on opening day and the Tuscarora 50.

There seems to be a missconception that when a person visits a t-shirt trailer they only buy A shirt. I cant tell you how many years I have left the nationals with half a dozen Steve Kinser shirts and zero of them were for me.  Hell there are times that I buy two of the same shirt I really like becuase I know I will spill on or stain one. Getting down to the brass tacks, people buy shirts to support drivers. There could be a guy or gal I have never even heard of when the night starts and I leave the race track with 2 of their shirts because at the end of the day buying a couple shirts helps these teams get up and down the road.

Fair point Stan, Steve is an outlier in this as his popularity is and was way above and beyond other drivers. I do know for a fact from people that I know that worked on the Kinser team that the nationals week brought in hundreds of thousands of dollars through the vending trailer for SK.

For discussion sake say Steve sold 5000 shirts at $20 each and the cost for shirts, artwork, printing and shipping is $5.00 each. $75,000 is a solid number.

KInser selling 5,000 shirts during the Nationals seems like a awful high number.  If you bread it down.  5 days of sales opportunity is 1,000 for one day.  A 10 hour period per day of sale opportunity results in about 100 shirts an hour.  Can two people in the sales trailor handle 100 sales an hour?  Maybe, just seems too high.

i talked myself out of buying any larson stuff because i felt like it was taking away sales from the pa drivers.  i bought rico stuff so i guess i'm being a hypocrite.  rico wasn't about to walk into a big nascar contract though.  i'd be curious how the other drivers felt about larson taking most of their purse money and probably taking at least some bite out of their souvenir sales.

I was kinda the same way, couple of years ago they had some nice "Larson vs. The Posse" T-shirts but I didn't buy one out of loyalty.... now  I wish I had. Some gotta win, some gotta lose....

Remember maybe 10 years ago when WoO was trying to screw Sides out of his points $$$ for racing an unsanctioned race? There was a push to buy Sides T-shirts so I got one.  Don't think I've ever worn it tho.... he used to win occasionally but hasn't for quite a while. I recall him winning World Challenge several years ago at Knoxville Nats. Kudos to Jason for sticking with it!

Rico and Jac will sell as much merchandise as any.Smart move for both.I went to one Indy Car race at Newton Ia and Danica Patricks merchandise had a line and all the rest did not.Rico has been on You Tube and other forms of social mediums promoting his apparel.Apparel is one way to help the drivers survive as the % of purse is not enough for 5th on bacK.Not many rides left where you bring your helmet bag and have fun.I can name a few that were as good as any that had to get a real job upon retirement.

At $25 a pop, $250,000 revenue. Not sure what the going rate of having them printed up, shipped, and possibly any licensing agreements that are made but there are costs associated with it. That's not to say he only made $2/shirt profit but I know some people automatically think that all of the money goes into a driver's pocket. I am sure he probably made more money than I did in those 3 nights just in t-shirt sales than I did all last year.

Then factor in I am sure he sold about that many if not more during Ohio Speedweek considering a line at the van all night long at a majority of the events  I went to (4nights). Then you factor in people who were at PA speedweek said the same thing about PA speedweek, then you have Knoxville which had lines all 3 days as well. And as others have said many people were buying more than 1 or 2.

Rico's van was just as busy those nights as well so the merchandise trailer does play a role of keeping guys on the road.

Merchandise is what really pads the big drivers 'nest egg' so to speak.  Can be lucrative for dirt track racers as most of the time the profit all goes to the drivers.  I was told Saldana and Motter had an arrangement where Motter got a cut of merch sales.  Surprised you don't see more of that, to the drivers dismay of course.  Haud built his house years ago strictly off tshirt income.

Don't forget that most teams sell t-shirts on their website too. Of these ridiculous numbers being reported, I wonder how many were actually sold at the track and how many on their website? 10,000 tee's in 3 nights at the track? I'm saying no way. The line would have to be a mile long all day and all night for that to happen. Does a souvenor trailor even hold that many t-shirts?
