Bingo. Recall seeing images in history classes of Tommie Smith & John Carlos with their fists in the air during the anthem after winning gold & bronze in the Olympics in 1968. Vincent Matthews & Wayne Collett did it as well in 1972 and there was a big talk but we act like taking knees in sports that it is different. People protesting for and against Jackie Robinson to play in the majors. What about all of those nice church going people spitting on kids wanting to go to school and play sports with kids a different skin color as them. Go see how high school football looked through areas of our country in teh late 60's & early 70's. Some people were even mad that Jesse Owens kicked all of Hitler's athlete's butts in the Olympics back in 36 just because of his skin color. And we have always had some other foriegn country that somehow someway was trying to unroot our moral fabric.

As you said its basically the same cycle that it repeats itself every 4-8years. Only difference is the technology involved and instead of talking about your opinions and bickering about them at the local coffee shop or diner, everyone and their mother posts about it on social media or website and has to take it to the extreme. The problems never go away because the people stay the same. The proclamation of the end of our democracy has been happening longer than those here have been proclaiming the end of the WoO. It hasn't happened yet and some think its worst than what it actually is because of their little sensitive egos who do not see an American flag on every house, or on the back of your truck, or if you vote the opposite of them.

It is the same 'ol USA as it always has been. And as George Carlin once said, "Its called the American Dream, because you have to be asleep to believe it."

Excellent post, the Luddites walk among us.

Interesting how some people  are more concerned about property damage then they are about people being murdered by police, who are supposed to PROTECT us...

Murdered by the police....makes it sound like all police are bad and that is asinine.  99% of cops are good people.  Bad apples yes there are.  There are bad apples who are race fans.  Ive been pulled over alot.  Did what the police say to do and 99.99999 percent of the time everything will be fine.  Start giving em shit things will unravel.

I never said "all police are bad". Don't put words in my mouth. One innocent person killed by cops is too much, & there have been lots more than one

Didn't you lecture us about this being a sprint car forum a few months back? And yet, in just about every thread we have to read your political views as though anyone cared. Spare us please.

Rev, I've never met you, and you seem like a quality dude who has a good heart, but you are fighting a losing battle here. Not a single soul walking this planet, including you, has ever said, "Ya know, I used to believe in a certain political ideology, but this one guy on Hosehead's made a series of posts and now I've completely changed my mind on the subject."

People are going to believe what they want to believe politically and the dirt track community has always skewed heavily in the conservative direction. If someome does change their mind, the source of it damn sure isn't going to be this place, or your posts. You'd sooner have better luck standing at the bottom of Niagara Falls and spitting the water back up.

I can assure you, no one is keeping a tally sheet at their house and saying "Well, did you see Rev? Someone made a post about about today's political climate and supported Trump, but he didn't directly address them back. He's such a damn schlub."

Listen, if it's your nature to keep fighting that fight, well then, you do you. Just expect to keep getting in the same arguments, with the same people, about the same things over and over again.

I hope you have a good weekend, Rev. I'm gonna hit the whiskey bottle and unwind after a long week of work.

By the way, for all you smartasses out there (I mean that in a good way) yes, I recognize the paradox of me trying to change someone's mind by using the exact tactic I just said doesn't change anyone's mind. Life has a fun sense of humor that way, doesn't it?

I don't expect to change the mind of any Trump Worshippers, but hopefully people on the fence or "Republicans & conservatives with integrity" will listen

As we used to say in the 60s, "dare to struggle, dare to win"

For the love of God......to try and get away from the political bs, one can't: (A) watch the news, (B) watch sports on TV, ESPN, NASCAR, Pro Sports - insert league, and now (C) can't even go on to a sprint car discussion board. FFS.

Rev, did not you hear anything Utah just said?

I read it & understood it, nothing I didn't already know. If other people express their political opinions, I might just reply.

Once again, I DIDN'T START IT

I purposely stayed away from this discussion, started by an Aussie making fairly neutral comments about sprint cars races & shows of patriotism. KInd of like a blank slate that people used to express their opinions. There were plenty of political comments before mine, & I felt the need to respond. So be it

This is the comment that got me started, from M&G Racing: " I am saddened by what has happened in alot of cities in the US.  I am from Oregon and what has happened in Portland is sickening.  I dont care who you like or dislike, destroying things that have nothing to do with politics or race is asinine, and the people doing it should face the consequences.  But they are arrested and let out the next day.  They need to bring in the water cannons other countries use...that would disperse the crowd and keep the police safe.  JMO of course. "

The families of murdered citizens & I are both opposed to rioting. But I care more about human lives than property damage.

I'm sickened by people getting blown away by cops
