I get what you are saying Nick,  I just think that if it is a WoO sanctioned event,  it should pay championship points just the rest....otherwise it is just a race with WoO car rules,  why sanction?

Knoxville was NOT WoO sanctioned for many years and that did not affect the event even the tiniest bit.

This has been going on for awhile now with the Kings Royal and even the Knoxville Nationals. I do not think it is a major issue with them just being show points and some might just be over thinking this. In a regular season with 65-80+ races (depending on rain) I think the champion that has been crowned has been fairly accurate. You may be able to make an argument for 1 or 2 of them but 2 out of 42 us a pretty good average.

Still think the Outlaws have one of the best formats. When you take into account races like the Knoxville races with Madsen and Gravel, even the June races, Donny passing Larson on the final lap at Ozarks (??), the I-55 races earlier this year were good, Sweet coming from 7th & 9th at Cedar Lake showing that qualifying doesn't really matter, Schatz coming from last to 2nd proving you can pass with the field, oh and there was that Silver cup race with 3 of the fastest cars putting on a show the whole race. I get that some like the idea of passing and coming up through the field but I think that happens already but for some reason just because you do not see it in heat races some feel it doesn't happen at all. A lot of races have had cars coming from the back and cars actually putting on great battles for position. Multiple races this year have had 3 car battles for the win. I go for the feature not the heats. Heat races at most races are going to have minimal passing aside from the Nationals & Kings Royal but even then some of the cars that start up front are, I'm sorry, pylons. You know they are going to get passed and its just like watching Cheetahs go after Gazelles. Question isn't a matter of if they get their prey, but when.

Agree the Outlaw format for single night shows is the best there is.  Rewards the teams and drivers for being fast every time they hit the track and not hitting some magical invert number.  That's also why the Knoxville Nationals format works too-----if you hit the track fast every time, you are going to be rewarded.  Was pumped to see Sammy on the pole at the King's Royal last year (it was last year right?) in Kevin's car, but he should have never been on the pole.  At least with the Nationals you have to earn every single spot and no one gets a break.

As far as the point's issue, it doesn't bother me at all.  If it were up to me, the special shows would be double points.  But neither here nor there for me.

I get what you're saying as well and that's a fair point. For me though, they can leave it as show points, regular points, or double points and I will still want to attend & watch. It's been going on the way it has for awhile now and I don't think it diminishs the race or the championship in anyway. If it went the other way I don't think it would add to either.

As for the why, I think it just works well for all sides. Myself as an example, I always thought a winged Sprint car was a world of outlaw growing up. Never knew their was true outlaw or local. The name does bring in fans as odd as it may seem. I just thought it was me but seeing some comments in certain social media groups, a lot of people associate Sprintcars with WoO and do not know of the business make up and the in and outs like the hardcore fans do

Nice to see, especially with the "different" format.    Kudos to WoO

According to the woo website race recap article for last night, the " one and only" races are not just show up points but regular points
