That was a fun year.  He had the festivities right by the track at Hammond's Grove.  And Cowan's Gap is a great place to visit, so beautiful up there.  I really wish they could get it together and have some more great 410 races there. Worst part about the area is the cell phone service, it's basically circa 1950 lol.

I would argue that the bad cell reception is the BEST part about the Speedweek shows at Path Valley. The crowd has no choice but to be 100% engaged in what is going on at the track. No texting their friends or posting lap by lap updates with the 337 other "live update" Twitter accounts. You see people actually conversing during the downtime instead of having their nose in their phones. That show had by far the best atmosphere of any speedweek show and I think the lack of cellphone distraction was the biggest reason why. The excellent racing definitely helps as well. Path is a FUN track. I hope they get back on our speedweek schedule soon.

You're right about that for the racetrack atmosphere. But I live near there and let me tell ya, it sucks.  Once I leave my house and the comfort of wi-fi calling, it's Little House on the Prarie, lol.

It is in my world. Don't get me wrong, when you look at a facility like Knoxville, you can't help but be blown away but there's also something to be said for the type of charm that a little old hole in the wall like Path Valley has. Most people will probably disagree with me but as great as all the upgrades are at Port Royal, I still miss that old covered grandstand & the atmosphere the place used to have. Port Royal is one of the best facilities in the sport but at the same time, I do feel like it lost a little something too. There's literally nothing there that's the same and for the advancement of the sport, that's a GREAT thing but that does come with a trade off. The nostalgic feeling you used to get when walking in is pretty much gone.

I feel ya. I lived in a dead zone myself for a few years and it sucked.

Yea, Path Valley is cool

I dig the whole "hillbilly" aspect, & racing is usually more competitive than big tracks

The locals there get a good laugh at the "City Slickers" who show up at the races also.

Good one.  No wonder I get so confused and burst out laughing for no reason.  Afterall,  I live 10 minutes from the track but also have a house in the Philly suburbs.
