The funny thing about the simulator is that there are simulator champions who can beat the best drivers in the business because they're good at the game. Case in point Scott Bloomquist couldn't get out of his own way last night. Some would say it's because he couldn't pull a fast one with tires in the game but that's a whole other subject. Seriously though, there are people who excel on the game that would be lost in a real race just like some of the real drivers struggled with the game. The reality of the g forces, engine noise and knowing that if you hit the wall it's going to hurt and real setup knowledge are what separate the driver's from the game players.

I don't disagree with you, in fact I completely agree with you. I don't think the top iRacing driver is going to hop in and immediately set the world on fire in the real world. But I do think they could with time. Just like I think any real drivers could be successful in this game with time.

One thing that is realistic about the sim is the cost of a good setup. I checked online and found a used turnkey and the asking price was $36,000 and change. It's pretty safe to say that it will never be one of my hobbies. It's hard to justify the cost of one of those setups with my wife when we are overdue to replace the family car. 
I can see why half the field is NASCAR drivers. They're the only ones who can afford these rigs.

Wonder what it costs to sponsor an iracing car for one night of WoO racing...might be interested if anyone in the field is interested.

U can spend whatevver u want, but FYI, TImmy Hill beat all the NASCAR drivers at Texas with the most basic rig, a desk (no cockpit), single screen, and basic logitech pedals.
Yeah it not cheap to do iracing with initial hardware costs and buying subcription and track, but it's still a bargain compared to other forms of real racing, plus u have unlimited track time and cost to repair a car is zero
I've driven $75K sim rigs and they are awesome, but u can be just as competitive with a simple rig.
Here's the bottom line, unlike real racing, $$$ does not buy speed or wins, it's basically how much time and skill u have, u have no excuses why ur slow. Always comical when real like drivers are slow in a sim and than say it's not realistic, why other driver that are fast, say the sim is pretty accurate. True sim racing is not the same as real racing in many aspects, but it is still a real race, u get adrenaline, real prize money for the pro series and even a chance to get your name out there and start a real racing career.
