Dammit. It’s becoming hard to be a sprint car fanatic this year. Selfishly, I’m tired of my heart being ripped out the last few years. I know I’m mad right now, as many of us are, but I can honestly say, I feel like turning my back on the sport right now. But inevitably I won’t. RIP to one damn fine racer.

Always one of my favorites as a kid.  Still have a pull back spring car of his, front wheels are gone but I can't just throw it away.  Sucks,  just plan ass sucks !

The A Main in Heaven just keeps getting better (sad).  Hope he lets Jason know how much we all grieved and cared.

Sucks!!

Horrible news! One of the greatest of all time is gone far too soon. RIP Greg & may God comfort his family, crew, friends & many fans. I didn't see the wreck but I, like many others here, feel something MUST be done to make the sport we all love safer; and stop the awful losses we are suffering much too often.

Sad, sad news. Like many I too have that sick feeling in the pit of my stomach. My heart goes out to the family and friends of Greg. God be with you during this difficult time.

RIP Greg. I grew up at Riverside Speedway watching his dad race, then was there when Greg was young and was learning to drive, If I remember correctly it was Mike Ward mentoring him. Truly one of the greats and he is already missed! My heart and thoughts and prayers go out to his family and the entire #27 team!!

This is getting all too common.  I don't have all the answers but the sport needs a thorough examination top to bottom on ways to improve safety.  As many of you have said, it's getting very hard to deal with all the deaths that have occured in recent years.  Prayers to all family and friends.  Greg was a class act and one of the best to ever do it.  He will be missed.

It's impossible in times like this to pull together coherent thoughts about our feelings, but it's important to remember expressing anything, coherent or not, can be a cathartic release to help with dealing with tragedy. At least it is for me.  We all love a sport that sometimes leads us to question that passion when tragedy strikes.  There is such a dichotomoy at bay right now.  The sport we love has tragically taken the life of a driver and we are all reeling and yet sometimes the place we feel at "home" and happy and helps us deal with the shit storm that life cna throw at us is the race track.  It's a mindfuck to the emotions.

Greg was pure class in every sense of the word.  Always smiling, always classy and intelligent.

I had watched Greg for years. He was always exciting and always competitive. More important he always gave the impression he was an intelligent, classy person in the winners circle. Sympathy to his family and friends.

This news is just a damn shock to me.  I opened my Speed Sport daily email and that is the headline.  What a gut punch.

My sympathies to his wife, kids and family.  And to the Heffner race team - I'm sure they are just beside themselves this morning.

I always looked forward to Greg coming to Knoxville so I could get a new shirt.  I know I could have ordered one but it was always more fun to buy it off the truck, chat for a few minutes and have him autograph it.  I was so fired up when he won his prelim night in the 410 Nationals, I thought maybe this is his year.  Wouldn't it be cool if he were the one to knock Donny out of victory lane?  It didn't happen, but as usual, he gave it a good run and was gracious when I talked to him after the race.

I'm ready to end the season right now.  I just don't want to open another sprint car email and learn that another one of my drivers and heroes is gone.  RIP Greg.

One other thought.  I can't begin to imagine what it would have been like back in the day when safety wasn't nearly as good as it is today - no roll bars, poor helmets, no seat belts, etc.

Terrible news! I'm in shock. You just never expect this to happen to one of the best. Greg was a great racer and a great man. Always thoughtful, humble and a class act. RIP

Selinsgrove is racing tonight. I saw pictures on Twitter that the track has a "27" in the P1 spot on the scoreboard.
