So I am thinking about the value of the note books teams keep. New track for the WoO and many of the regular powerhouses were just racing like everyone else. I wonder if this would happen more often if there was not the experience gained from running a lot of the tracks over and over,. Or if there was no memory of the last time you were there. Do those note books really have that much value?

Looked like a fun track, really like the wall cam angle in the highlights on the WoO site. Should iot become a regular place to visit?

What you're saying is evidence that the notebooks matter a lot. Brand new track seems to be an equalizer

I think it's both.  Sheldon + a solid off season to really build the team and equipment (and get their OWN motor program).  Ricky hired Kyle to run that race specifically to see if the equipment (in this case chassis) was up to snuff or if it was something else.  They were thinking of making a chassis change and Ricky wanted Kyle to "test" the J&J.  He won so they kind of figured it might not be the J&J (which they still use)  But you're right for a lot of reasons the team last year didn't mesh (maybe some of it was Joey, maybe some of it was thrashing a team together, maybe Swank and Joey never meshed, etc.).  But with Sheldon plus a solid off season and some meshing it certainly is working now and Sheldon is a big reason for that.  They'll continue to get better as Sheldon gains experience (and patience) and the team gains valuable time together.

Totally agree! But i also think Sheldon’s driving style suits Swank’s set-up better. Swank’s success came with Kerry Madsen driving, a up on the wheel gaser, very much like Sheldon. Joey doesn’t drive like that, so from the begining I don’t think it would ever work well, in order to gel someone would have to change their ways. Instead Ricky just changed drivers and BOOM! 4 wins in 2018 already.

I have always wondered what happens to the chassis that they dont go with when they make a change in the middle of the season like that. Im thinking about the mondak car with maxim, KPC and now XXX. the 17 car with J&J and KPC. shane stewart with COOL and RPM. the kahne team with GF1, CS9, RPM, Maxim, I see the 49 car now has a maxim sticker on the car and kasey looks to have been driving a Bigmax all season this year. The 20W car looks like it switched from maxim to DRC just recently.  do these teams just strip the cars down and build up the next brand car with the same parts as the last frame? Then put the old chassis in the corner for a rainy day?

Good point as well. Joey has always been more "methodical" of a driver then Madman and as you say Sheldon, so it does appear as if Tyler does better set up wise with an up on the wheel driver.  Good point.  Also, maybe that the Madman, Sheldon type driver can "fight" through a missed set up per se where a more methodical driver needs a better set up to dictate his driving style.
