The straight truck hauler is iconic. It should have it's own t-shirts.

LOL yeah Donnie has had that thing forever.

2,000 mile round trip:  2,000 miles / 6mpg = 333.3 gallons. 333.3gal x $3.00 = $1,000.

2 hotel rooms for 4 nights: 2 x $150 x 4 = $1,200.

$2,200 / $25 = 88. So 88 T-shirts to cover the cost of fuel and hotel rooms haha.

You must be assuming that they get their t shirts for free.

If they come to Knoxville I will put all of them up at my house, free of charge. Bam! Just saved them $1200. I would be honored to have them stay.

Thats the spirit!

How many do they have to sell to fund the 69k Knoxville Nationals trip? Smile

They could sell 10,000 of them and they still wouldn't go to Knoxville.  Their whole program is set up and designed to run 2 or 3 specific tracks.  Do they run very good at these tracks? You bet.  If they leave those tracks they would be exposed.  If they wanted to go bad enough, they would find a way.  Remember just 2 years ago when they said "it wasn't on the schedule or in the budget?"  Well, they have had 2 years now to make it work and I believe you won't be seeing them in Knoxville any time soon.  Even if they had a brand new hauler handed to them.  They are in the racing business.  If they wanted to be there, they would go.

No. I just did the math to get an idea, asshat. But I do know of some local teams whose sponsors pay for t-shirts so in some cases, yes it does "cost them 0.00."

It's Donnie's team and he decides when and where they race. I think the reason he stated before was that he was still experiencing post concussion symptoms which is why he retired from driving. I'll bet Lance would love to go to Knoxville. It'll be interseting to see how they do at Mansfield, a track that no one on the team has any experience. Having a basic set-up, notes and experience at a track helps a lot I'm sure.

Wait a minute, you're the guy who started the whole "(& maybe they will go to Knoxville?) thing!  If it was somebody actually with the team, (not Cubic), and the "maybe" & "?" wasn't there. I'd buy 2 in a minute

But i'm still tempted...

I think "exposed" may be a little over the top, I have a feeling they would still be competitive just because of their experience, but I agree with the overall sentiment.  They have chosen to focus on running very well, a certain number of times at tracks they know well.  It's working for them, so as much as I would love to see them at Knoxville or at other races, if they think it's too much, or that it would effect their ability to run the program they have chosen to run as well as they have run...it's their team, their time, their money, and their decision.

People on this board worry a lot more abiout teams and drivers getting "exposed" than the teams do. The car owner and driver are both in thir 50s. The crew chief is in his 80s. It is pretty obvious that no one on the team is really worried about impressing message board posters at this stage of their careers.

Dewease has had good runs there in lesser equipment.  Plus i think the car setup and dewease"s driving style translates well to the track.  No reason to think they wouldn't make the A and contend for a top ten spot.  I think their unwillingness to go is more about Davy's age than anything in my opinion...and he is the straw that stirs the drink so to speak.

OK, did some research.... Lance was "Rookie of the Year"  at Knoxville Nats in 1993. He's made 7 A-Mains (not sure how many times he entered) with a best finish of 8th & worst of 19th. Last 2 times he ran, 2011 & 2012, he went from 24th to 9th & 15th to 8th.

His crew chief Davey Brown, has won plenty of big races (maybe Knoxville?) & like a fine wine, gets better with age wink

Plus on their current website, it says: "Season goals: To win the Knoxville Nationals and become the first 4-time winner of the Williams Grove National Open" !!!!!

Yep... Davey Brown was crew chief  for Doug Wolfgang in  1984 & they won not only Knoxville  Nationals but WG National Open. Next year was even better, 54 wins including Knoxville Nats, KIngs Royal & WG Nats

Conclusion: 69k team has a chance, & I hope they go! Smile

Exposed???  Nah.  They're  top five in the country as far as speed is concerned. You can see it.   Thing is they would have to be out there for a week or two even before the Nats for tuning purposes.  So 3+ weeks away from home is not only really expensive, I'm sure it would be hard on Davey.  Then throw on two 20hr drives. That's hard on me and I'm 30. I want to see it as much as anybody but I don't think it's gonna happen.
