It was also a miserable 89 degrees!!

89 above zero? My part of S.D. Got 14"+. I'd trade that for dust and methanol fumes any day.

can they fix the ridiculously long lines to get in the track? Why did they decide 2 booths are enough. They have a 3rd line dedicated to season pass holders but as I was waiting, I saw no one use it.

Maybe they could team up with some local businesse and have them sell advance tickets. If you could buy tickets at a convenience store on the way to the track and be allowed to go through that third lane faster, would you?

So you guys got to go to a race with 47 410s and 29 super lates for a $22 ticket.

I got to sit in a blizzard in South Dakota.

You got to look thru dust; I was looking thru a whiteout.

What the fuck are you complaining about?

Good one....

At least I get to spend summers 5 hrs. away from Central Pa.

VERY little sprint car racing here in Colorado, not very good at that

But our weather is beautiful!

Got there a little after 4 and there was no line at the ticket booth by the tunnel. I thought it was a great show and some good racing last night but what do I know? Cars running up against the wall, on the bottom and through the middle. Don't know what more you could want. My only complaint is the length of these bigger shows. They are becoming 5-6 hour marathons. I love LM's but decided to leave before their feature as it was approaching 11(show started @6) and I had already been there about 7 hours. That's a long time for people to be sitting in the stands, especially for my gf who has bad knees and back. It's good that they are getting such large car counts and tremendous fan support for the big shows but I wish there was some way to speed up the show. 1 car TT's are bullshit in this day and age if you ask me, especially when you have 47 cars. About an hour and a half wasted! They have transponders and can put several cars on the track at once. If it was me, I'd put each heat group out at 1 time just like they do for hot laps. Give them 4-5 laps so that each car should be able to get a clean lap in. That would not only make TT's less boring but also cut the length in half.

Not one of those drivers taking chances...like Wiliamsgrove, Selinsgrove, Lincoln, Knoxville or Eldora.  Sprint car racing is to have a car on the verge of being out of contol every lap.  Yet being in control.  Port has had a good track once in the three races they have had and that was the night Blaney won that is the night the track was perfect.  They need ot put more water down into the surface before they seal it over.  Blacktop racing doesn't thrill me.   The only reason I am a little interested in napcar is because of Larsen.

Let's go Sprint Car Racing!

Knoxville - Best Track In the USA!
Eldora - 2nd Best Track in the USA!

OMG, Strawser aka Selinshomer, chimes in with a negative comment about Port. Color me shocked. Hope you enjoyed your 20 car show out there. The real race was at the Speed Palace. It must really bite you in the ass when Selinsgrove LM stud, Jeff Rine, consistently calls Port the best facility and surface around, LMAO. Although it slicked up, there was racing all over and cars moving to the front from the back. Cars ran high, low, and in the middle the entire race. People just get pissy because it's not the way they think it should be, lol. Well then, get out there and do some track prep all you super knowledgeable keyboard warriors. And I had no line, maybe you shouldn't wait till the last minute to show up. Oh, and there have always just been two places to buy tickets, the tunnel and the building under the grandstand. So moving the fence out where it is now changed nothing at all. Whiners gonna whine, so have fun doing just that. Got to see a decent show with a great field of both sprints and late models. I think the real problem is guys get annoyed seeing the 69k win races like he does, especially on the slicked off tracks. Well, I guess everyone else needs to find out what that team already knows. Does it annoy me?? Yeah, I like to see different guys win some big races but I'm not going to get stupid like these other people and start knocking the track, lol. I don't have a central Pa favorite so if you want your guy to beat the 69k, tell them to figure out what they already have. It's so simple.

Better check again.  I only go to Selinsgrove a few times a year.  I go to Williamsgrove a few times a year.  I go to Lincoln a few times a year.  I am going to Eldora this year.  I will not go to Port Royal....They have the worst weekly track prep of any track in central PA and should pick a new nickname THE SLOW PALACE.  Stimely and Swartz better get there act together....again last night horrible track conditions.  I don't have a favorite driver anymore.  Mine passed about 9 years ago.  I do respect a lot of the drivers but the team I respect the most is the 69K.  When that car comes out.....I like seeing him win and run well.  I could careless who wins.

Port has a nice facility but it stops at that, they need to learn how to prep their track!  Like I said, in three races this year the only night it was good was the night Blaney won.  The tracks was good all night and produced great racing!

Back to tickets, correct me if I’m wrong, Port has three gen adm windows (2 main and 1 tunnel), and two pit windows ( on the hill and near the grandstand), and a 4th window for season pass holders

Selinsgrove has 2 gen adm windows and one pit window.

Lincoln has a pit ticket building and two gen adm windows.

WG has two gen adm on the front and two on the hill and two pit windows one front and one back.

If these are correct, Port has more windows then all but WG

No?

I thought the track surface was perfect. Tacky, fast means 1 narrow lane and no passing. Not sure why some people don.t get that .Tacky fast also means everbody is fast-even mediocre cars and drivers

Getting a little visceral aren't we? Port Royal is a great facility but they're not perfect. The ticket line situation last night did suck. It was their first big show with the new set up so I'm sure they'll figure it out. I have a season pass so it isn't going to affect me either way. Everyone I know agrees that the pit announcer is a pain in the ass but if people like him, whatever. However, I think anyone with a little common sense would agree that he doesn't need to be on the scene of a crash grilling the drivers involved about what happened. That's just asking for trouble and it's in my opinion, classless. As far as the show running late, Port never starts on time. Every week they're at least a half hour late getting started. Its been that way since 2011 so I wouldn't expect it to change. I don't personally care but it's a fact. The track prep is iffy at times. Last night was one of those times but it turned out to be a decent race because they had enough sense to go out and water it before the rubber came in. All in all it could be better but it could be a lot worse. They probably shouldn't have gone out and pounded the cushion down. It was very good before they did that. I love Port Royal and I love where they've taken the place but there's nothing wrong with pointing out things that they could be doing better. It's not being a hater or being unappreciative, it's just being honest. I had a good time last night. Great field of cars. Ryan Smith put on a show coming from the back and Lance, Donald and Davey just continue to amaze. I totally feel for all you folks caught in the blizzard. Snow sucks. Especially during racing season.

Every time someone straps into a sprint car, they take more chances than most human beings are willing to take. Aaron Reutzel took quite a few chances going through traffic. Several ballsy moves.

BStrawser26: "I will not go to Port Royal."

Then he proceeds to talk about how poorly the track is prepped. If you dont go, how do you know? Are you just checking lap times on race monitor or something?

Port Royal puts every penny that is made and sometimes money they don't have into making improvements for the fans and drivers. In 2018 Port Royal raised the purses in all divisions from top to bottom with no additional addmission price to the fans or drivers on a regular Saturday night show. We are now building a new office and we hope to be getting the software that you can buy tickets on line in the future to eliminate some of the waiting lines. The names that BStrawser26  just mentioned in a earlier post has donated their time and equipment along with 18 other board members for the past six years to make Port a better place for everyone. Steve Stimely and others has spent the last  3 years, 7 days a week no matter the weather and sometimes over 70 hours of their time free of charge. Mr Strawser, I have told you before we are there every Friday night and by 7:00 AM on Saturday morning anytime you want to come and donate your time to help us make our track better we invite you.

If you weren't there, then your opinion on the track and racing is useless. Try to bullshit people someplace else.

I’ve never waited almost 15 minutes in line at any of those tracks right as racing was about to start. Sure you can wait in long lines waiting for the gates to open up, but when you arrive right as hot laps are starting and there is a 10-15 minute Line backed up because there are only 2 lines selling tickets in the general vicinity while a 3rd line goes unused because it’s for “season ticket“ holders, I’d say you should adjust things.

Port is doing great things, wasnt intending the thread to be a bashing session, but let’s not pretend its all perfect either.

I normally don’t post in any forums, but I couldn’t agree more with your comments.  With the amount of dirt track races that I have attended in the past 45 years, I could be sending my daughter to college without any student loans with the amount of $$$ spent.  My only complaint with Port is that they have to find a way to tighten up their program.  Most spectators in attendance, travel a great distance to attend their shows (that is a testament to the promoters).  Sitting in the stands for over 6 hours is way too long for any type of event, especially when you have a long trek home.  I personally don’t mind sitting that long for a race program, but most casual fans will think twice about coming back on a consistent bases.  There have been many times I thought about bringing my daughter, friends or my wife to a race at Port Royal, but have been hesitant due to events not starting on time and being drawn out.  It wouldn’t take much to shorten the program (start on the published start time, group timetrials, have the next heat staged, have the wreckers dispatched as soon as the yellow flagged dropped, cut down on the pace laps, have the pill draw in the pits, etc.).

I will continue to support Port with my hard earned money, and preach to anyone who will listen that Central PA has the best facilities and fans in racing.

I can't figure out why people come to an event hours early , and then complain because an event last 5 - 6 hours. Come closer to the starting time or something if you only have a few hours out of your day for entertainment. Take your time,  slow down and enjoy life a little instead of worrying about getting someplace other than where you are at the present. It makes things much more enjoyable.

I like to to get a decent seat at least 6-7 rows up and the big shows tend to fill up pretty quick, plus the parking lot fills up even quicker. For regular shows, or if I'm by myself, I don't show up until start time. Trust me, I don't like being in a hurry either. lol

I didn't read the entire thread, but to everyone complaining about the ticket lines. I don't think the issue was the amount of ticket booths, just about every track in the state has just two booths (some have less). The issue was the amount of fans. This was a huge turnout that they probably were not totally prepared for. I expected a big crowd but this one was pretty close to an Outlaw show or something. That is a testament to what the ASCOC has become in just a few years under Tony Stewart. With that said, had I known what the track conditions would be like, and how late the show would run, and that Lincoln would still get a good field of cars I probably would have stayed home and driven 15 minutes to Lincoln. Either way I wasn't disappointed and Port Royal is still the undisputed nicest facility in the state. No matter what, I'm glad we have so many fans that support racing in Central PA. Another big weekend for me Trail Way>Lincoln>Selinsgrove this week. Looking forward to it!
