those numbers arrived in my signature when the myth of Eldora being the "Worlds Fastest Half Mile" was debunked over a decade ago...and this thread of making tracks MORE LIKE the 3/8 - 4/10 actual Eldora length is icing on the cake...
the irony of reality
Lincoln 1845 ft/.35 mile T1=118MPH
Eldora 2287 ft/.43mile T3=135MPH
Port 2716 ft/.51 mile T3=TBD
Grove 2792 ft/.53 mile T3=135MPH
Selinsgrove 2847 ft/.54 mile T1=136MPH

I disagree. Look at the Google images. Belleville doesn't seem to have straight straighaways the way way Jackson does and still will have. The straight parts of Belleview measure about 250' on the inside. Even after shortening Jackson looks like it would be close to 400'. Also Belleview measures out to be fatter in the width department. After changes, Jackson would be about 864'x538' outside to outside. Belleview measures about 1008'x809'. Belleviw would seem more like a donut.

Should make it a small 3/8th track. The smaller tracks, the bullrings, are where the action is and serious injuries, though they happen, they are less likely, but especially for the action. Johnny Gibson loves bullrings, he says about these small 3/8th tracks "by the 3rd lap of the feature they are into lapped traffic and that's when it gets interesting". And keep the track as close to the fans as possible without endangering the fans. If you've ever been to Princeton, MN bullring, gotta be a 1/4 though I think it's called a small 3/8th, man you are close to the track. If sitting in the 1st row of the main grandstand, you can't be more than 20 feet from the track surface. Gods truth. Almost scary but thrilling. Maybe they've changed it since I was there but don't think so. Sure loved the Outlaws there but have not been back for years. Husets is a nice size 3/8th, Grand Forks Rivers Cities track a small 3/8th. These 4/10th like Vegas, I-80, Lowes, they all look and race like half mile tracks, IMO only.

Princeton hasn't changed since the last time the Outlaws were there except for dropping WISSOTA and going to IMCA for their weekly shows. I haven't been back since the last time the Outlaws were there but I shot photos for all of those shows. It's as tight as it looks and you have to keep your eyes open in the infield.

I'd love go see a few of the half-miles in PA configured to smaller tracks for all of the reasons already mentioned in this thread. Half-miles still have their place and it's cool to see them wind it out on a big fast track and occasionally you see a good race. Keep Port a 1/2, that place seems to have a lot going for it right now. Make both "groves" smaller IMO.

As long as they get completely different dirt and take it easy on the 8" deep sheeps foot holes, it should hopefully be less of a tire eater on a regular basis.
