I have ran a 305 since 2009, and switched over to a 410 this year. (doing a lot of testing prior to racing) I went with the number 66 for two reasons, 1) It was my Dad's number, and he chose it because it was the year he got married to my mother. 2) Steve Smith (Stevie's dad) drove the Fletcher's Amoco 66 in PA for a few years, One of my favorite cars and driver.

Ray Tilley number 88.  88 wins in two years in central PA.  Dad ran 88 because of the Bud Grimm Ford.

Luna's Ford engine style that won 2 WoO titles and 3
Kings Royals before a weight rule against the best EVER
in their prime and now DOMINATES super dirt late model
racing is no longer allowed/wanted in a WoO sprint
car.... Was Luna a miracle worker?

Schatz?
Kinser?

Sammy?

Sweet? wasnt he 49 before he came to KKR?

and I am guessing Pittman is 9 because that was Kahne's first nascar number?

Any ideas on some of those others?

Someone on here already answered your question as far as Sammy is concerned.  Sammy started racing and his father Swingin Sam Swindell was 91.  Take the 9 away and what do you have left?.  1  Pretty easy to share a car or fill in for one another.  All you do is tape over o 9 or add a 9 and there you go.  Pretty cool story about Swinging Sam Swindells final win in a race car.  It was told at Knoxville this year

Car owner Joe Harz used 88H because his birthday is August 8.

My grandpa raced number 21 in the micro midgets on the beaches of Daytona and the foothills of Boone.  My dad decided he'd carry his legacy and race 21.  Then I was born on the 21st of October.  A few years later, my brother was born on the 21st of March.  My freshman year of basketball I was forced to wear whatever number was available.  My sophmore year, I wore 21 and got moved up to Varsity half way through but had to change number. Did horrible till my senior year when I was able to wear 21 again and almost made it to Division 1 ball.

Decided on 21 as my 1200cc minisprint and first sprint car.  Destroyed every car i sat in.  Mainly because we showed up really late, there was already a 21 there, and the promoter made me put an X on my car.  When I finally decided to get back into sprints, I knew we'd still be late and I hated X, so I switched to 21B and won the National ROY along with a few dashes, heat wins, and top 5.

Stayed with it ever since....
