You guys have no idea wehat you are talking about. A heavy wet track will give you a high speed parade around the cushion with little passing 90% of the time. The good racing happens when the track slicks off and the cushion moves up to the fence and it actually takes some skill and balls to run there. Port nails it more often than not and when the track is too dry, they take the time to add moisture around the top so you still see a good feature. A heavy wet track is good for bullring racing but not for half-miles.
|
Nobody said anything about wet and heavy. Wet and heavy on a half mile is garbage. Slick to a curb is where it's at. All you need is adequate moisture and something to lean on. Port nails the actual prep better than anyone. The problem is they don't stay the hell off of it. Sometimes when a ledge develops and the track quits moving, yes, go knock it down. But when the cushion is already 3/4 of the way up during the first hot lap session, there's dust blowing and their wings are already in the trunk, there's no need to go pound what little bit is left, into oblivion. Especially before the feature when it just makes the track dirty and it takes 15 laps to clean it off where guys can move around. One thing is for sure, it's their choice to prep it how they want and it's my choice to decide where I want to spend my money. I don't expect it to change on my behalf because I'm just a no name fan. If that's what the drivers want, then so be it. I have a choice to go there or not & I'll choose accordingly.

Couldn't agree more. Give him a real honest to god curb instead of a Port Royal paper thin strip of watered dust, and he'll do just fine.
|
Seems like last nite's win from 16th by Lucas Wolfe proves you wrong, at least this time...
I only get to Port a couple of times every summer, but every time I go, its competitive...

The same can be said about tracks he will be running at. Hagerstown + water + Larson could equal 120 mph slide jobs ending in wheel stands like the old days. Unfortunately most PA fans are totally stoked with a parched slow surface as long as the guy winning uses a PA mailing address??????????????????????
|
My only visit to Hagerstown a few years ago for Speedweek was the exact opposite. Painfully slow, huggy bottom & Larson was awful. It seemed like wingless cars, everybody slowed down drastically for corners
Hope he does better this time... I like the competition, Posse fan but not "fanatic"!

Slick to a curb is the way Port usually has it. Last night the curb was only a couple feet from the guard rail and it was still the fast way around. By the end of the feature, most of the fast cars were back up there after several tried the bottom and middle. Cisney said he was hoping the top would go away so they could move around a little more. When they groom the cushion before the feature, they usually add a little water too. IDK but whatever they are doing, it seems to work. The racing at Port the last 2-3 years is probably the best I've ever seen there. It just seems that nowadays the cars are so locked down that if there's a curb anywhere(even up along the fense), every driver can run nearly wide open around it.

There are two reasons Port Royal runs in the cushion:
1. If it is dry and loose around the top no one will go up there because there is NO traction.
2. Port runs in the cushion to move it up the track to provide a wide racing surface.
I would bet if you were to poll the drivers 90% of them would prefer a smooth slick track. I would even go as far to say if you poll the fans you would have at least 75% of them wanting a smooth slick track. By smooth and slick I am not talking about a rubbered down track I.m talking about a track like Port had like last night and for the Weikert Memorial on Memorial Day.
PS: If you got slidejobs you got good racing.

He's racing as much as Chip Ganassi allows him to.
|
He cannot runm sprints on the weekends that NASNAP is running per contract.
Ascot was the greatest of all time..
West Capital wasn't half bad either..
Life is good...

Which is why he wasn't racing Calistoga last weekend. Do I remember correctly that there's also a finite number of dirt races (whether winged, nonwing or midget) that's he allowed to race in per year/season? The number 20 comes to mind, but I cannot remember exactly.

Yung Money is the best driver in the country. If he comes in here and finishes 16th every night, he leaves as the best driver in the country. I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't win one. And I wouldn't be surprised if he won all four shows. Just the fact that he comes to PA to race is good enough for me. Thanks for coming in Kyle. Thanks for racing Knoxville. Thanks for fielding a WoO team.

This is pretty funny right here. Ohio's speedweek fields were every bit as tough, if not more tough, than what PA's will be. Grandview & Path Valley especially, will be very good for him. Assuming the surface at Path Valley isn't complete garbage, he'll teach our guys a thing or two. Path Valley hasn't been particularly kind to the Posse guys over the past few years. Cole Duncan, Brady Bacon & Chad Kemenah all have won races there with Bryan Clauson giving Hodnett all he could handle last year. I'm hoping he wins a couple just to shut people like you up.

I agree 100%. Regardless of how he does, I appreciate the opportunity to see him race and I also appreciate him spending a lot of his NASCAR money on our sport.

This thread asked for opinions so i gave it. If you dont like it tough but history supports my opinion. Whens the last time an outsider nascar driver etc came to pa and won a couple speedweek shows... Good luck finding any evidence to support you. Kyle Larson is a great driver and the flovor of the month right now but will he dominate speedweek highly doubtful. Sorry for not buying into the hysteria and following the herd. I like kyle... Hes a good kid and wish him all the best.

.... and everybody whose phone number doesn't begin with 717 could ultimately give two shits if he finishes first or last these next few days. When Dewease or Hodnett can come out to Eldora this September and win USAC features in a midget, sprint car, and Silver Crown car in one night - I'll be impressed.

if winning a race on Posse Soil is less important than sweeping up USAC at Eldora...where are the "taking on Usac" shirts?
or "parts unknown" / WoO for that matter?

if nobody tells him about the shelf in the banking of T4 at Path Valley he will be climbing the fence BEFORE the checkers and not after...
