I actually thought going back to Hoosiers would be good for Sammy.   It was pretty shocking to go to my first 410 Nationals and see Sammy and Steve both miss making the feature.

I was there too, very disappointing. End of an era...

Double D comment from VL - 2nd place finish - good to "see 3 maxims" up front

Good to see them back in victory lane. Maybe the mojo is back?

'first win since mid-March' -  I knew it was a long time but I didn't think it had been that long.

The drought appears to be over: http://portroyalspeedway.com/index.php/2017/06/hodnett-gets-career-50th-in-port-royal-sprints-takes-first-oval-checkers-of-2017/

Gonna pull this one out of the weeds.....

I thought maybe the drought was over too but.....it appears to be back.

The 27's been here before. Pittman set the world on fire and faded in his last year.

It's just strange to have to look deep in the results to find Greg Hodnett.

He looked poised for a great finish at Grandview, as he always runs well there, but alas.... turn one contact.

I know. He seemed to be lacking speed on the straightaways in previous races, but he looked really fast running away in his heat, & start of Feature seemed like it would be  a great battle with Larson.... then, oh crap!!!

Haven't seen any Hagerstown results yet other than Larson 11th....how did Greg do?

I think Sammy has always pretty much done what he wants to do. And he's doing it now. I's just not as much as his fans or those who appreciate what he can do would like to see. He doesn't want to race any where near a full time schedule. And regardless of what a driver can do, sponsorhip that can put together the best equipment is probably harder to come by for a part time deal than it is a for a full time deal. As for him not figuring out the Hoosier tires and current set ups, I'd say given the amount of time or lack thereof, he shouldn't be expected to have a full "grip" on it.Smile  As for Gravel's success, I don't recall Sammy ever standing up and saying "look what I've done for him". Whatever he may have added to the Big Game/CJB team, I'm quite sure was usefull.

Yeah he drove right into Larson's LR. Suprised to see Greg make a mistake like that. Sometimes you need to know when to lift and fight another lap. Stutts did a similiar rookie move when he tried to put his car between Rico and the wall, when Rico had position on him.

Yea, it almost seemed like Hodnett & Ryan Smith were trying too hard, taking chances they don't normally take... But what do I know.... never drove a sprint car,  never will...

At least they made it interesting

Yeah almost forgot about Ryan. He was going for it late in the feature.

I thought the same thing at the time with both of them. Very rarely do you see Hodnett make a mistake like that......just think he is desperate to get a win and maybe trying a bit too hard. He and the Heffner team are not used to not running up front and winning.
