I understand where you're coming from.  I'm not sure if you have kids or not (and please don't take that the wrong way in anyway) but at least with my kids who are 8 and 11 they have never received a participation trophy or had what I would call a safe space, or even asked for such a thing.  I think a lot of that gets blown out of proportion, maybe something happens in some town and it gets reported on and many people assume it happens everywhere (I'm guilty of that myself from time to time).

I do completely agree with you on the election results, however just looking through my facebook news feed, the people who have the biggest problem with it are people our age and older.  But even if it is younger people that are upset about it, I guess that's kind of progress.  Hear me out, if you're like me, you didn't care too much for politics growing up?  The economy was good back then so I don't think people really thought about it like they do today.  But today young people are caring (I assume).  I like you do not understand or agree with the protests over the election.  However, how different is it from the countless protests over the Vietnam war?  There were many of those that were far from peaceful, stores and other buildings were destroyed.  Fifty years ago, what do you suppose the people our age were thinking about those protests?  I'm sure they thought just like you about human beings being unable to adapt and deal with adversity.  I should also say though I was not alive during that time and the few people I have asked that were alive do not remember seeing one protest close to us.

I'm not trying to argue with you, just provide a different prospective.  It's certainly interesting to talk about.

I honestly can't argue about anything you said. I don't have kids and where I'm from, it's very rural so we don't have any participation trophies here. The local college however does have safe spaces and shit like that. I don't remember the details now but a couple of years ago, there was a write up in our local paper about it and it pretty much made me want to puke when I read about some of the "issues" they're helping young adults to deal with. Those kids literally have no idea what real problems are. I guess we see things much the same but in a different way if that makes sense. I'm all about protests and the right to free speech. I hate censorship in pretty much any regard. You might be right. Maybe it was always this way and I just never paid attention when I was a kid.

Thank you very much for your service.  I greatly respect those that do.

But, I ask this with all due respect.... you do understand that it's possible to be against a particular war and protest it, but still support the soldiers fighting in it, right?

It doesn't have to be one or the other. I totally understand that humans have different levels of cognitive complexity, but have a little more room for nuance.

Indeed, indeed it has.  I just used "cognitive complexity" on an effing sprint car forum.

Just remember.  One pill makes you larger, one pill makes you small, and the ones that mother gives you don't do anything at all.  <----- That's for all the old heads here.

I say this tongue-in-cheek becasue I do enjoy our "discussions" we get into on this message board.....but how do we go from the Indy pole sitter getting robbed at Taco Hell to protesting a war?  Smile

We live in a representative republic so the popular vote is a moot point. The person who got the most electoral votes won the presidency just like every other election. We don't have to like it, but that's the way it is. I never said safe spaces had anything to do with the robbery. Me and hardon got way off topic discussing our views on society as a whole.

Thanks for admiting that. I try to keep politics off this board (its hostile enough already!), but like you, I believe in self defense (verbal in this case)

By the way, if a thief had a gun pointed at your head, he could easily kill you & grab the wallet himself. I was robbed at knifepoint in NYC in about 1970. The kid wasn't scary, so I told him no, grabbed his wrists & we started "doing the cha cha". Then I realized I was risking my life for the $3 in my wallet. I negotiated (while still wrestling) I said he could have the $$, but I wanted the wallet. He agreed & ran away from me. I wasn't scared when it happened, but was shaking like a leaf when it was over. But that didn't stop me, I was headed to the legendary Rucker baskeball tourney in the heart of Harlem. Instead of walking & subway, I got my Puerto Rican friend & we went up there on his motorcycle. It was worth it! First time I got to see the mighty Dr.J., on blacktop... Tiny Archibald too....

If they had stayed in the good ole USA & didn't invade somebody else's homeland, they wouldn't have been shot to hell. Thats one of the many reasons we were protesting. Did you see little kids geting burned with napalm?

As for N. Korea, no thanks. This is my country too

The Left's idea of patriotism is helping other Americans. To the Right, it means hating & killing foreigners

One more thing & I'm off politics....

If the majority voted for Hillary, & Trump sits in the White House, we have a right to be pissed. Electoral College is an anachronism from the days when interstate travel involved days in a covered wagon. We're one country... why should a votein N. Dakota count more than a vote in California or NY?

One man, one vote....

And as for ""college aged adults who need coloring books and puppies" , its not like we lost a football game. This stuff is life or death.President is in charge of the most lethal military in the history of mankind, & we need somebody intelligent & responsible

Take one State out of the equation (California) and Trump had the majority of votes in the other 49.  I sure hope you don't want CA folks to determine who runs the country because they are a mess themselves and have a moron leading them in Mr. Brown....

MSPN, I couldn't have said it better!  Having California, with the nutz living out there deciding who our president is?  Can't believe there is anyone out there who could possibly think that would be a good thing. Good Gawd, the state has been a basketcase for a long long time.  Not going to get better.  And the California state assembly, talk about braindead people getting elected from districts that have a 90% dropout rate and 90% illigitimacy rate and about the same percent living off the taxpayers in California and the country, by the way, taxpayers who are shrinking in numbers far too fast.  What happens in 50 years when only 20% of the people in this country work and pay taxes?  My son and I both have concealed weapons permits and we DO carry.  It isn't so much to stop someone who has a gun at your head in an instant, but to stop violence in general, violence toward other people, if you get the chance.

Speaking of trump?   We just had a nitwit president for 8 years who gave 743 speeches in which tv cameras were allowed.  More than 100 of them were less than 5 minutes long and all 743 were read off a teleprompter and written by a speech writer.  Even speaking to a class of 4th graders for 5 minutes and bringing into the classroom his teleprompters and reading a 4 minute speech, then not taking any questions from the 4th graders.  Nitwit is being kind.

Lawlessness + liberalism = HELL - NYC, Detroit, Chicago,
Seattle, LA Who the H runs those cities.

Very true. For Trump to use a Teleprompter that would require " reading "

Agreed. The electoral college has its faults but it's sure as hell better than becoming the United States of California

Plenty of Vietnam veterans came back & protested the war.... thousands of them. I know cause I went with them to protest Nixon in Miami Repub convention, 1972

Were you in Vietnam??

You may not like California, but thats your personal opinion. Californians are US citizens too, & if their vote swings the election, so be it...

When are we gonna get off politics? I can't resist replying....
