Port is definitely going all in with the late models. I was shocked last year when I went on their website and noticed that the press release about the guy who won the late model series they have with Selinsgrove was the headline above Lance Dewease winning the Tuscarora 50 even though the late model deal concluded on Friday before the 50 was ran. I've noticed many other press releases since where the late models were mentioned first as well. Whether that's a good move or not remains to be seen but I know they've not faired well in the past for the stand alone late model shows they've tried as far as the crowd is concerned so if they were to scrap the 410's and run late models as the weekly headliner, I don't think they'd enjoy the success that they're enjoying now. There are some late model fans there but the sprint cars are the bread and butter and they have been for decades. You're right though. As it looks now, their sprint field this year is going to be pretty sparse for regular shows. Lincoln will have better counts and in my opinion, better quality than Port so that's where I'm going to be for the majority of my Saturday nights.

Don't get me wrong, Port is doing a lot to attract 410's as well with many big $$$ races for them too, but yeah they are having more big LM races than ever. I believe 410's will remain the weekly headliner at Port so long as they remain the top division in central PA. Although sprints are my favorite, I enjoy the LM's as well and they draw a lot of cars for the bigger races - probably the reason Port is scheduling more big races for them. The LM's as a headliner pack the pits but they don't pack the stands in central PA like the 410's do. Great racing though.

I've never been a late model guy myself. They just don't do it for me. I've certainly seen my share of them and I understand why some people like them but they just aren't for me. I hope Port's sprint field starts going the right way again soon. They've lost a lot of cars in the last 5 or 6 years. They've gained some but not nearly enough in quality or quantity to offset what they lost.

Not sure what else Port can do to boost the sprint car count. They have arguably the top facility in Pennsylvania, the payout is good, there are a lot of hi-profile events. The up and comers just aren't around that area of PA, and aren't moving into the 410 ranks. Selinsgrove has dropped the micros so that feeder system isn't available. I don't have an answer, I think it is just is the way it is.
and although the late models have been great there, 410 sprints will remain the main attraction as long as there is a Port Royal speedway. imo

Thats what lincoln and the grove do have working for them is they have the 358's to feed the 410 division. In the last year Matt Campbell and Travis Esh have moved into the 410 ranks. Within the next 5 years id predict Fletcher, Steve Drevicki, Brent Shearer, Tyler Esh (doug's son), Jordan Gilver, Justin Whittall, and maybe Eldreth will be moving to the 410 ranks based on who is young and showing speed.

Tyler Esh is the one who moved up to 410's but is apparently running the All-Stars all season.....Jared Esh is Doug's son who is still running 358's at Williams Grove this year. I wouldn't be surprised if Chandler Leiby made the move up to 410's before long.
