If the nsl ran smaller tracks they'd still be around. Many of the smaller budget teams could not afford to keep up with the high dollar motor programs on the big tracks.

much agreed. I would much rather see a show at Badlands vs Jackson. Jackson is to much drag racing, WoO at badlands gets dam good when leaders hit traffic. You won't see that action at Jackson.
Huset's has always made a killing at WoO shows. 5000 to 6000 people at $35. a head. do the math. I could see the WoO, Usac and maybe Gold Cup shows. Maybe Chucks way of keeping it alive another year.

I would have to say that the races that I watched at jackson last year were as good as any I saw at badlands. My home track is badlands/husets so I would have no reason to stick up for jackson but they had some really good shows last year.

If we haven't heard anything about Badlands now by February 2 I am guessing the chances of a weekly show are about done.
I agree, when Jackson did a good job on the track prep, the racing there in 2016 was fantastic.

I understand the traditionalists in terms of Knoxville running Sat nights, and yes, obviously the guy is a character who foes things the way he wants , but I don't understand the personal hate and vitriol on here. At the end of the day, the guy came in and paid out ridiculous amounts of money for every weekly show. He was paying more to win for his lowest support division (I believe that a regular street stock race paid $1000 to win) than some smaller touring series pay to win (There's a 305 touring series that travels all over NY state and pays $400 to win). I can tell you right now that every racer I know in Canada and the Eastern US was buzzing all last year about how much Badlands was paying for their weekly purses.
He came in and wanted to do things his way. He was the one writing the checks do that was/is his right. I don't know Chuck and I have never been to Husets but I do know a couple racers that ran the weekly 410 shows there most of the year and everyone who I've talked to has said that he treated them amazingly well and the payouts were phenomenal, but yet every single thing the guy said and did right from when he announced he was buying it was analyzed and critiqued by seemingly everyone on here. Like I said, I just don't get the hatred.

He's also been completely condemned for his businesses. Firstly , I can think of one "famous" sprint car racing family that has a cash advance business plastered all over their racecars and nobody ever had any issues with them making their money in that business. Secondly, I know for a fact that if a stranger with no credit or baf credit walked up to me and wanted to fill out a couple forms and then borrow say $500 until their next payday, I sure as hell wouldn't be loaning anyone that money at 5%. It's a legal business. Yes it's a little bit on the sketchy/seedy side, but he's no different than the hundreds, if not thousands of other similar businesses out there that do the exact same thing.
I'm sure I'm going to get completely shit on for my 2 posts, but I'm just playing devils advocate here. Like I said, I just don't understand the personal hatred.

Wait. Are you you counting all the guys that aren't worth a toot that you always made a point to point out and count when counting the cars at badlands last year?? So B Mains at Knoxville but only 7 cars have a chance to win the A right? So those other 25 cars don't mean anything to you correct?

That's not unique to local weekly racing you know. Even in the hot bed of sprint car racing, PA....4-5 drivers dominate each track. Why is car count important then? Simple answer! How many times has a race been won or lost in lapped traffic? Nothing worse during an A Feature than a yellow flag just as the leaders have reached or have started racing in lapped traffic. Damn right the 20-30 guys who have little or no chance of winning are important to the excitement of sprint car racing. Do you get that?

If he sunk so much money into the facility and doesn't generate basic income from it. He is a moron. No, he doesn't have a casino to back his race track anymore. So. Make it work. Basic business skills are required. Figure it out. Payout might not be as good, but the facilities are great and fans will show up. So will will the racers. It will work out.
Only if he doesn't give up. But he is Trump material. Weak. I suspect he will give up. Or already did.
Hope it works out. Really, I do.
I miss going to Husets. Long live Husets!

If all that is required is basic business skills, I can guarantee you would see 20+ more 410/360 sprint car tracks racing weekly all over the country. The fact that Knoxville makes it is based solely on the Nationals.
Jacksonville, Wichita, Jackson (pre Quiring) North Star, Cedar Lake, Wilmot and more all used to have a weekly top division sprint car show. All either dropped down to a lower division car and/or dropped sprints or closed. It is not as simple as just having basic business skills to make a sprint car show work.
Racing and hosting a top division weekly sprint car show is really hard. A lot of tracks have tried and closed. Central PA is the only area that seems to be able to hold out.

There's NO buyers. It kills me how many "new" posters come on here backing CB. One would think CB is paying someone to "stick up" for him.
I HOPE racing does take place out there this year, but if you think for a second that just because "ANY" series has a race on a schedule, that it means that date still exists, you my friend do NOT pay attention to "series" racing. I've known listed events that were cancelled to be left on a series website up to weeks before they actually were to take place.
It's laugable as well as the trolls who keep coming on here posting this "announcement" BS. LMAO

A condensed schedule has been announced by Badlands. According to this press release, these dates will definitely happen, but they are still looking for a buyer to run the track full-time.

Wilmot's weekly sprint division is gone NOT because of the lack of people supporting it. The IRA WAS the weekly Wilmot show and they went on the road. Wilmot could still support a weekly show, as long as the guys running don't ask for the world. It is my belief that the stands would be pretty damn full, thereby losing a support class or two would not hurt. That move, in and of itself would bring more people to the track because they would be able to get home at a reasonable hour, and not have to endure 5, sometimes 6 classes a night. Unfortuantely, for this fan, and many others, none of this will happen in the foreseeable future.

Hopefully they'll bring the USAC sprints in late July as previously scheduled, before the sale of the speedway.
