Adding a twist--- Multiple ways to measure success, winning is the most obvious.  However, developing a legacy is another.  How many successful crew chiefs has each mentored in their career ? Who are they ?

Obvious answer, but less fun to argue!

True, way less fun to argue...just reminding everyone we're able to have this convo/discussion because they're both generational talents.

Don't lump Karl in with the modern day parts changers.

Bud Grimm....Posse creator and the best. Ricky might be as good as Karl but we'll never know with our current deballing rule book.

Luna's Ford engine style that won 2 WoO titles and 3
Kings Royals before a weight rule against the best EVER
in their prime and now DOMINATES super dirt late model
racing is no longer allowed/wanted in a WoO sprint
car.... Was Luna a miracle worker?

Davey Brown Sr has been winning races for 62 years straight, over 1000 wins in many different divisions.

Karl didn't have Davey Brown Sr's staying power. I doubt Ricky Warner will either. No one probably ever will again, except for maybe Scruffy if he keeps going 10-15 more years.

1.  Karl

2. Tricky Ricky

3.

4.

5.      Don't care if I get blasted, Paul Silva is quickly moving into my top 5 if not even higher. And I guarantee there are many current drivers who would agree.

There have been many great ones in the history of Sprint Car racing.......but only ONE Karl Kinser. I still can not believe he just woke up one day and basically walked away from the sport and never looked back?

If you look back at those last couple years you'll find the reason Karl walked away so to speak. He became deathly ill during the Knoxville Nationals, and his recovery went well in to the next season. About that same time frame Mark was seriously injured up in North Dakota in a sprint car crash. The head injuries sustained in that crash brought an early end to Mark's driving career. Those two things took Karl out of sprint car racing. It was reported that even after Mark quit, that Karl had a couple cars ready to go if Mark's head injury would clear up. Sadly it didn't and that's pretty much it.

I remember a quote from another prominent driver after Steve and Karl split, "All these years we thought Steve Kinser was God. Now we know he was driving God's car."

Karl not only was one of the best ever but he was also a great in the field of entertainment Truly a legend! He knew how to interview and interact with the fans and was as popular with the fans as many drivers. On another note I watched the finals on TV and was impressed with how much better Schatz has became at interviewing which also helps promote the sport. You can be the best but need to have people come to cheer or boo you as the tickets cost the same.

Karl said a few years back that Warner still calls Karl on a weekly/daily basis looking for set-up advice.  Maybe Karl is an extension of the product we see on the track with the 15 team right now?

I can say one thing, Karl Kinser was a Master at Engines and Chassis set up, but Ricky made Tyler Walker one of the fastest there was when he was in his prime.  Davey Brown is also ole school and has a unique touch on chassis, but I still say Karl is my hands down pick and Sammy is no slouch either.......

Just saying...............
