He won't even make the race......any takers on that fact?

Didn't make the race cause he didn't have a wing And he ran into more talented drivers which is what the woo lacks and why he dominates

Yeah it has nothing to do with him having never raced a midget before.  Not bad for a 1st try I say.

Don't make excuses,,,,,,,, he can't race anything but a winged sprinter...... if he was that good in late models then his resume would show better then it does.... fact is he is good in a wing that's it..... this is also why he can never in my book considered to be one of the greats when he is limited to wings only and has no versatility to his game like so many other great winged drivers have and do in our current lineups... mike stryker raced a midget and on his first race he won and he is not a hero like so many people proclaim schatz to be.... current lineup in woo is weak as hell compared to the past and if you would admit that very fact then you would wake up of the 15 car bandwagon

donny makin the B main tonight was respectable for a ROOK at the chili bowl all things considered...but ALL these peeps wanna call donny one of the greatest dirt track racers of ALL TIME are clueless...kinser,swindell and wolfgang raced AND won on dirt ,pavement, with AND without a wing,AND in the daytime and nightime....just because you DOMINATE a series that's definatley NOT as tough as it once was does NOT make you a GOAT.

Cant believe I'm defending Schatz..... Larson, Rico (minus the provisional after failing to get out of the F), Sammy, Kruseman, Darland.... ALL finished behind slow crappy Schatz.

You hate Schatz, we get it.   Surely you must consider everybody's Chili Bowl here Mr. Sammy one of the all time greats?   Looks like Mr. Schatz, in his first try, fared better than Sammy in his 30th?   And let's add that Rico only made it because of a provisional.    Give Schatz some time in a midget and he's as good as anyone, and that would include the Chili Bowl.   Surely he proved that tonight.

DSW - adding to your thoughts, technically he finished ahead of 339 other drivers...many of which only race non-winged. No dig on anyone.

Hope you had a great week of racing and can sneak in the Friday March 3rd WoO Sprint Cars at LoneStar Speedway...where the reconfigured 1/3 mile, 70' wide, flat-footed, high-banked track has repeatedly given fans spectacular Sprint Car racing - and drivers plenty of racing/passing room...with big, long slide jobs.

This is the first WoO event after Florida Speedweek, so the field will be full of fresh race teams...including Donny Schatz.

The top 10 rows of the bucketed/reserved section are on sale as numbered seats. The entire rest of the stands are first-come seating - which is the same for people with lawn chairs lining up across the top of the concrete terrace.

For online ticket sales, event flyer and complete info, visit the track website www.LoneStarSpeedway.com or on Facebook (direct link) https://www.facebook.com/LoneStarSpeedway/photos/pcb.1251989914837751/1251969071506502/?type=3&theater

I think that the WoO Sprint Cars could approach the upper 10-second bracket in time trials, which will make for wild lapped traffic racing in the feature race.

We also have a big kick-off event on February 11th with Sprint Cars, the big outlaw LSS Modifieds and Stocks.

One final note. LoneStar Speedway allows fans to enjoy racing the way nature intended it to be:

NO MUFFLERS.   wink

Here's a couple of visuals of the track I snapped a week ago,as off-season work continues (as every year), but you can easily see how wide the track is, you just can't really get a feel for the bank...but where you see the concrete wall at the top, it's very common to see drivers hauling the mail way up next to the wall in the features:

Now wait a second........Maddog texted me last night and told me Sammy took out Darland.  So which one is it?  Maddog, you know Sammy doesn't have a history of just taking people out for the hell of it.  Smile

(Maddog--I would also like to wish your NFL team luck today but i better not bring it up or people on here will start to get irrate--you know--if we don't act like robots and talk about nothing but racing)

Darland was in the final transfer spot at the time.  If Sammy had passed him he'd have probably been in the show.  What an idiot.

So does that make Pittman a better racer than Schatz even though Schatz beats the hell out of him regularly on the WoO tour? I'd like to hear the logic on this one....

Exactly. He finished ahead of over 300 guys, not bad for a beginner

If he spent one whole season in midgets, I don't doubt he'd be one of the best

Schatz missing the A by 3 spots is much better than I thought he would do.  I think that's impressive.

Means he basically finished 29th/30th out of 375 entries.  Beat 92%.

Swindell finished 6th out of 48 in the first Chili Bowl.  Beat 87%.

Wolfgang finished 16th out of 48 in the first Chill Bowl.  Beat 67%.

Kinser finished 2nd out of 65 in his first.  Beat 97%.

Tony Stewart finished 13th out of 92 in his first.  Beat 86%

Kevin Swindell finished 20th in B#1 in his first Chiller Bowl.  Basically 51th out of 260.  Beat 80%.

Anyone who has watched what Schatz does in a winged sprint car and doesn't think he's one of the 2 best winged sprint car drivers of all time is either a hater, or a huge Swindell or Wolfgang fan.  Smile

Comparing the greatness of Schatz to the greatness of the big three is largely pointless anyways, just like the "who's better, Karl Kinser or Ricky Warner" thread.    Different eras and different circumstances.    Until someone figures out how to build the magical time machine that can transport Schatz and Warner back to the eighties and let them compete against the big three in their prime, then I guess we'll just never know will we?    All we have otherwise is our own useless opinions, and my useless opinion is that Schatz is just as good.   And my useless opinion is just as good as your useless opinion dirtlover....
