UPDATED ENTRY LIST FOR THE 20TH ANNUAL OVAL NATIONALS!
(Perris, CA, October 22, 2015) Entries continue to stream in for the 20th Annual Budweiser Oval Nationals Presented by All Coast Construction at Perris Auto Speedway on November 12th, 13th and 14th. Heading the latest group of entries is defending race champion and current Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car Series point leader “The Madman,” Robert Ballou.
Ballou, who lists Westfield, Indiana as his place of residence, grew up in Rocklin, California and began racing at age 5 in Northern California. The veteran racer leads the USAC National Series with 10 wins in 2015. Last year he was the class of the field at the Oval Nationals toying with the competition and winning the Friday preliminary show and the $25,000.00 to win finale on Saturday night.
Another driver in the newest group of entries is Broken Arrow, Oklahoma’s Brady Bacon. The 2014 USAC National Sprint Car champion, Bacon will be in fourth spot in the point standings when the Oval Nationals kick off on the 12th. The affable veteran has six USAC National wins on his side of the ledger this year.
Laveen, Arizona’s R.J. Johnson has also thrown his helmet in the ring for the Oval Nationals. The 2005 USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year, Johnson, 28, is closing in on this third straight USAC Southwest Series championship. Like Ballou in the National Series, he leads the Southwest Series with 10 wins in 2015. Not to push the second generation driver’s prowess in a racecar aside, his biggest moment thus far in 2015 is when he became a father for the first time.
Brookston, Indiana’s Aaron Farney, who won the Indiana Sprint Week race at Terre Haute on July 15th, will be making his Perris Auto Speedway debut at this year’s Oval Nationals. Farney, who is a teammate to Robert Ballou, got his start in racing when his grandfather gave him a mini-sprint for his fourth birthday. The 20-year-old comes into the Oval Nationals leading the “Rookie of the Year” point standings in the National Series.
Joining the out of state racers amongst the latest group of entries are local drivers David Bezio of El Cajon, Lomita’s Verne Sweeney and Austin Stone who lives in Chico. Bezio has previously visited The PAS victory circle in the California Lightning Sprint Car Series. Sweeney has been competing back to the days of the original CRA where he once won a main event at Manzanita Speedway in Phoenix. Stone, a student at Cal State Chico, will be contesting his first 410 race at The PAS.
