USAC WEST COAST SPRINTS EYE TULARE’S “KRC SAFETY FALL SHOOTOUT”

OCTOBER 7, 2015... The cars and stars of the USAC West Coast Sprint Car Series are back in action this Saturday, October 10th, at Tulare, California’s Thunderbowl Raceway. Promoted by Steve Faria, the “KRC Safety Fall Shootout” will be the sixth and final appearance of the year at the fast 1/3-mile oval. The action packed card will also feature the winged King of the West and Western RaceSaver Sprint Cars. The front gates will open at 4:00pm, time trials will begin at 6:00pm, with racing scheduled for 7:00pm. Heading into Saturday’s event, the Tulare County Fairgrounds has hosted twenty-seven USAC West Coast Sprint Car races. Ryan Bernal leads all drivers with ten victories and holds the 1-lap qualifying record of 15.133, set on March 13th. Bernal claimed the March 14th and May 30th races and Bud Kaeding won the March 13th opener. “Hollywood” Danny Faria Jr. added the May 16th “Faria Memorial” to his resume and Matt Mitchell scored the $4,000 “Peter Murphy Classic” win on July 25th. The Tulare win list is at the bottom of this release.

NOTICE TO RACERS: Saturday’s race at Tulare will be run under the USAC West Coast Rule Book and a $35 entry fee will be collected. The Hoosier 105/16 Medium is the ONLY legal right rear tire and all four corners must be Hoosier. Cockpit adjustable shocks are NOT allowed and engine restrictor rules are 1-7/8” with open heads and 2-3/16” with ASCS cylinder heads. The weight rule is 1,475 lbs. with driver. The Merle Stone Chevrolet Thunderbowl Raceway has a 95db at 100 feet state mandated sound rule and the USAC West Coast Sprint Car Rule Book can be found online at www.westcoastsprintcars.com and www.usacracing.com.

Getting closer to his second crown, “Hollywood” Danny Faria Jr. of Tipton, California has a 143-point advantage. Racing Junior Bowman’s #17V Buster & Ziggy Enterprises / SurfnSprint Spike, Faria scored third in last Saturday’s “Jim Evett Memorial” at Hanford. To date, the 2013 Champion has three feature wins, two Woodland Auto Display Fast Time Awards, one top-qualifier award, six heat race victories, twelve top-10 finishes, and 88 feature laps led. “Hollywood” is ranked fourth on the series win list and will be looking to add another trophy to his collection.

Visalia, California’s Richard Vander Weerd is second in the chase for the championship. Driving the family owned #10 Vander Weerd Construction / Stone Gate Development Maxim, Vander Weerd ran fifth in the Hanford main event. At press time, the 2011 Champion has two feature wins, one Woodland Auto Display Fast Time Award, one dash win, four heat race victories, two DMI / Ultra Shield Race Products Hard Charger Awards, eleven top-10 finishes, and 43 feature laps led to his credit. Running second on the West Coast win list, Richard will have his sights on claiming his eighteenth win this Saturday night.

After winning $4,500 at Hanford’s “Jim Evett Memorial,” Jace Vander Weerd of Visalia, California has climbed to third in the point standings. Piloting the family owned #88 Vander Weerd Construction / Stone Gate Development Maxim, Vander Weerd has one feature win, two heat race victories, one Competition Suspension Inc. / Rod End Supply Semi-Main Win, thirteen top-10 finishes, and 30 feature laps led on the season. With five wins to his credit, the former USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year will be looking for his first victory at Tulare.

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma’s Trey Marcham sits fourth in the point chase. Racing Keith Ford’s #73 Berry Pack / King Racing Products Spike, Marcham ran seventeenth at Hanford after an early exit. To date, the leading Rookie of the Year contender has one Woodland Auto Display Fast Time Award, two heat race victories, ten top-10 finishes, and 4 feature laps led. This Saturday, the former USAC Western Midget Rookie of the Year will have his sights on the “KRC Safety Fall Shootout” win.

D.J. Johnson of Stockton, California is fifth in the USAC West Coast point standings. The driver of the family owned #33 Proplant Farm Services / J. Milano Company Eagle missed last Saturday’s action at Hanford. Currently, the former USAC Western Classic Rookie of the Year has six heat race victories, one DMI / Ultra Shield Race Products Hard Charger Award, nine top-10 finishes, and 37 feature laps led to his credit. This Saturday, D.J. will be looking to earn his first USAC West Coast triumph.

While Marcham leads the chase for Rookie of the Year honors, California’s Tristan Guardino, and Shannon McQueen are also in contention. Among the other drivers expected to be in action are Ryan Bernal, Bud Kaeding, “Shifter” Landon Hurst, Jeff Sibley, Brody Roa, Troy Rutherford, Austin Liggett, Max Adams, Kyle Smith, Cody Majors, and more.

Tulare, California’s Thunderbowl Raceway is located at the Tulare County Fairgrounds at the corner of Bardsley and K Streets. Reserved Grandstand Tickets are $20 and General Admission Seats are $18.
