2nd Annual $60,000+ RED RIVER OPEN WHEEL NATIONALS! Oct. 9-10

Wichita Falls, TX (9/7/15) by DarinShort.com. Red River Speedway (RRS) near Wichita Falls, TX has saved the best for last, and is pleased to announce the return of the wild Red River Open Wheel Nationals (OWN). Fans have asked for its return, so we're going to "OWN it" once again. The two-day event will be held October 9th-10th.

The OWN features two days of must-see open wheel racing in 5 divisions: Champ Sprint Cars, RaceSaver® sanctioned Sprint Cars, USRA legal Modifieds, IMCA Southern SportMods and Wingless Oklahoma Warrior (WOW) Sprint Cars.

Last year's event was forced into a one-day event after nearly 3" of rain fell right after all the teams and fans arrived at the speedway on Friday night. Even with the majority of Friday's show being added to the Saturday show, the track held up incredibly well, and the final race of the night ended up with the top three finishers starting from the 7th row on back.

The event format will remain virtually identical to 2014 (without the rain component, of course), and complete details are posted on the OWN page of the track website.

The 2015 OWN will feature wall-to-wall racing on both nights. One thing that has been adjusted for the race teams is, this year there is no pre-registration, and all divisions will have a $50 entry fee due upon signing in on race night. Championship night features have also been bumped up from the 2014 purses, resulting in a $60,000+ total cash purse.

Race fans can get a 2-day adult (ages 12-64) grandstand admission pass on race night for just $25! Individual night tickets are $15 for Friday and $17 for Saturday. Kids ages 6-11 are $5 nightly. Seniors/Active Military are $12 nightly. Pit passes (all ages) are $35 nightly.

Friday night's racing program consists of heats (with passing points) and twin-qualifying features (all divisions, straight up by heat points: RaceSaver, Champ Sprint, Modifieds, SportMods) and will set up the Saturday night racing program.

The top 4 in each qualifying feature Friday night will lock in to the first four rows of the Saturday championship feature (each division). The balance of the field will go to Twin B-features that will be lined straight up by compiled Friday points (heat + feature). The top 6 from each B will transfer to the championship A-feature.

On Saturday night, October 10th, the Champ Sprints will be racing for $2,000 to win and $300 to start. The RaceSaver Sprint Cars will be racing for the same, $2,000 to win and $300 to start. Note to Sprint Car teams: although the 2015 RaceSaver Sprint Car rules at RRS allow Champ Sprint Cars to race with the RaceSaver cars, they are not allowed for this race - as they have their own division. If you are going to race both Winged Sprint divisions, you must have two cars

The Modifieds will be competing for $3,000 to win and $300 to start, while the SportMod winner will receive a $2,000 payday and $200 for last place starters.

Plus, on Saturday October 10th only, the Wingless Oklahoma Warriors (WOW) Sprint Cars will run a complete show of heat races and 20-lap feature paying $1,000 to win and $200 to start. There is a $50 entry fee for all WOW cars, WOW series legal cars only.

But that's not all!

Once both features have been completed Saturday night in the Winged Sprint Car divisions, the top 10 finishers in each will be redrawn and race head to head for another 25-laps paying $2,000 to win and $300 to start! With another added twist, the race fans will pull out the car numbers for their redraw!

Last year's RaceSaver vs. Champ Sprint Challenge feature was spectacular, with the feature winner coming from the 9th row. Several other drivers passed 10+ cars.

The success of this particular race was the ammunition needed for RaceSaver to allow RRS to grandfather in the Champ Sprint cars during the regular season in 2015, as lap times were very comparable.

Non-qualifier (or Non-Starter) money will be paid to all two-day drivers, in the amount of $100 for the Winged Sprint Car divisions and the Modifieds, while the Non-Winged Sprint Cars and Limiteds will each receive $50. Drivers racing on Saturday only will pay the $50 entry fee and will tag the B feature, and if they transfer to the A, will race for full purse. If they do not make the A-feature, they do not receive NQ money. Friday's qualifying racing program is for lining up Saturday's program and there is no payback.

The races are at 8pm on Friday October 9th, with pits opening at 3pm and the grandstand opening at 6pm.

The races Saturday October 10th are at 6pm, with the pits opening at 3pm and the grandstands opening at 4pm. Twin B's in each division (except Non-Winged Sprint Cars) will be raced first, with the top 6 finishers in each advancing to their respective Championship Feature event. Both Winged Sprint Car division feature races will be contested early in the running order, as the final race of the night will be the $2,000 to win and $300 to start Champ Sprint vs. RaceSaver Sprint Car Challenge event...which will highly entertaining. The Non-Winged Sprint Cars will have heats and a feature race.

RaceSaver Sprint Cars and Champ Sprint Car feature - 25 laps. Payback October 10 (both feature races pay the same amount): $2,000 - 1,000 - 800 - 600 - 500 - 400 - 300 - 200 - 200 - 200 (10th) // $400 (11th) - 350 - 325 - 300...to start. The top 10 automatically go to the Champ vs RaceSaver feature (payback below), which is why 11th on back pays higher than 10th. All 2-day NQ's or non-starters receive $100.

Champ Sprint vs. RaceSaver feature 25 laps. Payback October 10: $2,000 - 1,000 - 800 - 600 - 500 - 400 - 350 - 325 - 300...to start. Again, the top 10 finishers in each Winged Sprint Car feature will compete in this feature race. If a driver qualified for this event does not start, they will receive $100.

USRA-legal Modifieds October 10: $3,000 - 2,000 - $1,200 - 1,000 - 800 - 600 - 500 - 400 - 350 - 325 - 300...to start. All 2-day NQ's or non-starters receive $100.

Limited Modifieds October 10: $2,000 - 1,200 - 1,000 - 800 - 600 - 500 - 400 - 300 - 250 - 200...to start. All 2-day NQ's or non-starters receive $50.

Non-Winged Sprint Cars (must be WOW series legal) payback on October 10: $1,000 - 600 - 500 - 400 - 300 - 200...start. NQ's or non-starters receive $50.

In the event of a rainout on Friday night, a revised one-day format will be used - similar to 2014. Hopefully mother nature can give us a break on race weekend this year.

Special OWN event apparel will also be available in a wide range of colors and sizes when the grandstand opens on Friday night...so make plans to get yours before they're all gone! A picture of the apparel will be posted at the track Facebook page prior to race weekend.

An event flyer is posted at the track website and on Facebook.

Wichita Falls, TX (9/23/15) by DarinShort.com. Red River Speedway (RRS) near Wichita Falls, TX has saved the best for last, and is pleased to announce the return of the wild Red River Open Wheel Nationals (OWN). Fans have asked for its return, so we're going to "OWN it" once again...with the exact same divisions and format as 2014!

Last year's event was forced into a one-day event after nearly 3" of rain fell right after the race teams and fans arrived at the speedway on Friday night. Even with the majority of Friday's show being added to the Saturday show, the track held up incredibly well, and the final race of the night ended up with the top three finishers starting from the 7th row on back. Right at 165 race teams were on hand, making for an incredible racing program.

The event format will remain virtually identical to 2014 (without the rain component, of course!), and complete details are posted on the OWN page of the track website.

The 2015 OWN will feature wall-to-wall racing on both nights. One thing that has been adjusted for the race teams is, this year there is no pre-registration, and all divisions will have a $50 entry fee due (per car) upon signing in on race night.

Championship night features have also been bumped up from the 2014 purses, resulting in a $60,000+ total cash purse. Drivers racing two (or more) divisions will pay an entry fee for each car, but do not have to purchase an additional pit pass per car entered. We are totally okay with drivers racing more than one division, but it is the drivers responsibility to have their second car staged if they race back-to-back, as we will not hold up the program waiting.

There is no payback on Friday, as it sets the finale night features (no heats on Saturday).

The Modifieds will be competing for $3,000 to win and $300 to start, while the SportMod winner will receive a $2,000 payday and $200 for last place starters. Both have stout payback throughout the finishing positions...check out the details below!

Plus, on Saturday October 10th only, the Wingless Oklahoma Warriors (WOW) Sprint Cars will run a complete show of heat races and 20-lap feature paying $1,000 to win and $200 to start...which is one of their best paying events of the season!

If either of the Champ or RaceSaver feature winners also wins the Champ vs RaceSaver Challenge feature - they will pocket the Smiley's Sweep money in the amount of $1,000 cash...courtesy of Smiley's Racing Products...giving them a total payday of $5,000! If there is no winner, Smiley's will award $1,000 credit towards purchase to a new sprint kit at Smiley's to the Hard Luck recipient.

Last year's RaceSaver vs. Champ Sprint Challenge feature was spectacular, with the feature winner coming from the 9th row. Several other drivers passed 10+ cars.

The success of this particular race was the ammunition needed for RaceSaver to allow RRS to grandfather in the Champ Sprint cars during the regular season in 2015, as lap times were very comparable...whether the track was fast or slick.

Non-qualifier (or Non-Starter) money will be paid to all two-day drivers, in the amount of $100 for the Winged Sprint Car divisions and the Modifieds, while the Non-Winged Sprint Cars and SportMods will each receive $50. Drivers racing on Saturday only will pay the $50 entry fee and will tag the B feature, and if they transfer to the A, will race for full purse. The top 10 automatically go to the Champ vs RaceSaver feature (payback below), which is why 11th on back pays higher than 10th. All 2-day NQ's or non-starters receive $100.

Red River Speedway OPEN WHEEL NATIONALS "APPETIZER" Video...

The 2nd Annual $60,000 Red River Open Wheel Nationals (OWN) is slated for October 9th-10th at Red River Speedway (RRS), and here's an in-car camera video of the 2014 Open Wheel Nationals "Champ vs RaceSaver Sprint Challenge" event.

This is a great illustration of how closely paired the two sprint car divisions are that will be racing the OWN, as they did in this spectacular race in 2014.

Keep in mind that due to the Friday rainout last year (2.9" fell right at race time), the event was reformatted into a 1-day race for the 160 race teams, and with much cooler than average temps, it was very late in the night when this feature event rolled out...so a lot of the fans missed out.

But the track was superb, with three of the top four finishers staring from the 7th-10th rows. The winner came from row nine.

We're looking for another awesome showdown this year...except for the weather drama of 2014!

Special thanks to Champ Sprint Car driver TJ Honkomp for taking the time and resources to capture this in-car video of the event:

Please make plans to join us for two days of fantastic racing on October 9th & 10th! Complete details are posted at www.RRSpeedway.com

ATTENTION OPEN WHEEL NATIONALS TEAMS:

All cars will be scored by transponders on OWN weekend, and each car entered will pay $20 for rental - which covers the entire weekend.

We will have you turn them in after Friday night though, so they can get recharged overnight. (Last year, not turning them in after Friday night's rainout caused a problem, as some of them ran out of juice on Saturday night...and those cars fell off the scoring loop, which caused a real mess.)
